The top agents of Fairytale Land’s FBI (Fairytale Bureau of Intelligence) are on the case when a grizzly criminal gang called the Three Bears is up to no good. The furry trio has stolen a C.O.W. from a young lad named Jack and plans to destroy the kingdom with it! But if Agent Gold, aka “the Girl with the Golden Locks,” and her partners Rose Red and Snow White can muster their wit and grit in time, the denizens of Fairytale Land might just stand a chance. Recommended for ages 4 and up.

ABOUT THE SHOW: Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” is transported to modern-day New York City as two young, idealistic lovers find themselves caught between warring street gangs, the “American” Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence and prejudice is one of the most innovative, heart-wrenching and relevant musical dramas of our time.

Audition ages 12 – 18

  • Place: Mars Hill Academy (4230 Aero Drive) (Click here for directions)
  • Bring a headshot photo to the audition (photos will not be returned). Photo does NOT need to be professional.
  • Make an Audition Appointment and print the resulting audition form. Be sure to bring that printed audition form to the audition.
  • You only need to come to one of the audition dates.
  • If you cannot make either audition date, you may submit a video audition. Please click Video Audition Information for details.
    Callbacks will be held Wednesday, Feb. 8th AND Thursday, Feb. 9th at Mars Hill Academy, those who are called back must be available for the entire callback time.

Rehearsals

  • First rehearsal will be a full cast read-thru on Tuesday, Feb. 21. There will also be a mandatory parent meeting – Sunday, Feb. 19. Additional details will be provided.
  • Rehearsals will be on Sunday afternoons and Tuesday and Thursday evenings at CTM’s Main Street Studios in Mason.

Requirements

  • Those cast in WEST SIDE STORY will pay a $125 participation fee which covers the cost of: a souvenir show t-shirt, garment bag for your costume/s, a one line personal ad in the playbill, and the main parts of your costume. Actors may be asked to supply specific accessories or generic pieces (ex. socks, tights, shoes, etc.)
  • It is mandatory that parents volunteer for at least 6 hours on pre-production jobs (set painting, set building, parent monitoring, etc.), as well as for 2 volunteer time slots during the performance weekend (ticket sales, concessions, green room, etc.). Parents who cannot make this commitment should not have their children audition.

Audition Preparation
NOTE: We value your time and that of all actors. You may be stopped before the end of your audition. This is not a reflection of your performance only that the directors have seen or heard what they need to. If you have a specific part of your song you feel is very important, try to start near that portion so you are not stopped before reaching it.

  • Monologue:
    • Memorized monologue should be a maximum of 30 seconds.
  • Song:
    • Please prepare 30 seconds of a song. Your song should showcase your acting ability and skills while singing.
    • NO songs from West Side Story and NO pop songs. No a cappella (bring music!)
    • No accompanist will be available. It is strongly recommended that you use an accompaniment track. There will be a CD player and speaker connection for mp3 players available.
    • Please bring your accompaniment track on a phone, CD, or MP3 Player. Song may have Backup vocals on the CD/MP3 but no lead vocals.
    • When using a phone, CD, or MP3 player, please edit your track to the beginning of where you will be singing.
    • Please note we cannot be responsible if CD/MP3 does not play properly.
    • Suggestions for your song:
      • Select a song that showcases your voice and your vocal range.
      • Select a song that has as few key changes as possible.
      • Select a song that does not have lots of rests or sing the song without those rests.
      • If possible, pick a song that shows some quick delivery of words and pitches as well as some longer, sustained notes.
  • CALLBACKS:

      • Wear dance shoes and appropriate clothing for dancing.

Go over the Rainbow with THE WIZARD OF OZ

Click your heels three times and follow the yellow brick road to the Taft Theatre this February to experience the magical adventures of Dorothy and her friends when The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati presents the classic musical THE WIZARD OF OZ this February (February 11 – 19, 2017).

A cyclone transports Dorothy and her dog, Toto, from Kansas to the technicolor Munchkin Land.  Unfortunately, they land right on top of the Wicked Witch of the East — not a good thing!  As Dorothy and Toto head down the Yellow Brick Road to find the Wizard and their way back home to Kansas, they meet new friends, each with a wish that they hope The Great Oz can grant for them.  A scrawny Scarecrow needs a brain, a rusty Tin Man needs a heart, and a Cowardly Lion needs courage.

Directed by Ken Jones, director of NKU’s School of the Arts (SOTA).  By L. Frank Baum. With Music and Lyrics by Harold Arlen and E. Y. Harburg. Background Music by Herbert Stothart. Dance and Vocal Arrangements by Peter Howard.  Orchestration by Larry Wilcox.  Adapted by John Kane for the Royal Shakespeare Company.  Based upon the Classic Motion Picture owned by Turner Entertainment Co. and distributed in all media by Warner Bros.  Adaptation and support materials for the Young Performers’ Edition. LOCAL 12’s Bob Herzog will be featured in the production as The Wizard.

AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS Travels to the Arts Center at Dunham for Free Family Fun

pip_around-the-world-in-80-days-promoCINCINNATI, OH – January 13, 2017 — Bring your passport on Saturday, January 21 at 2 p.m. for AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS, part of the Free Family Fun Series at the Arts Center at Dunham.

The Playhouse in the Park’s Off the Hill Productions by Toby Hulse is based on the Jules Verne book and is provided courtesy of a grant from Price Hill Will Arts CAT. Join Phileas Fogg in the world’s most amazing race. Via rail, boat and even elephant, Fogg must travel the globe in just 80 days or he will forfeit a fortune. But a snooping detective, a possible human sacrifice and even the will of Mother Nature all conspire against Fogg’s adventure of a lifetime. Just three actors portray 19 different characters to create a spirited, fast-moving, highly imaginative and hilariously entertaining comedy. The show is recommended for ages 8 and up.

All Free Family Fun Series performances are on Saturdays at 2:00 p.m. The remaining series includes:

–       March 11, 2017 ROKCincy Opera for Children: “The Magic Flute”

ROKCincy is thrilled to present Mozart’s beloved fairy tale opera “The Magic Flute.” The performance is 40 minutes in length and includes a question and answer session with the cast. ROKCincy is a non-profit program with a mission to introduce young people to the thrill of live, fully staged opera and to give developing professional musicians an opportunity to hone their performance skills through experience.

In Narnia, a land of talking animals, mythical creatures and eternal winter, the White Witch holds power over all. Any who dare to dissent are turned instantly into stone. But one day, a little girl named Lucy enters this magical land through an enchanted wardrobe, and her fantastical adventure signals the fulfillment of a prophecy and great change to come. Step through the wardrobe with Lucy, Peter, Susan and Edmund in this tour-de-force, two-actor adaptation of the beloved and heroic tale of good’s triumph over evil. Recommended for ages 5 and up.

The Arts Center at Dunham is a fine arts center for the west side of Cincinnati and its vision is to provide affordable creative and performing arts for Price Hill and surrounding communities. Housed in one of the three remaining buildings of what was the first municipally owned tuberculosis sanatorium in the United States, the Arts Center includes a 350-seat performance venue as well as extensive studio and programming space. The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati Holding Auditions for STAR Programs

Children ages 9-18 can register to audition for the renowned STAR Intensive NKU and STAR Camp Red Bank programs with The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati. Auditions will be held at The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati’s new facility, 4015 Red Bank Road, Cincinnati, OH 45227 on:

  • Friday, February 24 from 6 PM to 9 PM
  • Saturday, February 25 from 10 AM to 5 PM 

Appointments are mandatory. You MUST set up an audition in advance. Audition time slots are on a first-come, first-served basis.  To register for an audition please visit: www.thechildrenstheatre.com/audition.  Registration opens Friday, January 13, 2017 at 12 noon.

What to Prepare:

  • A memorized, age-appropriate monologue (1 minute MAX). It should showcase your acting skills.
  • A memorized 16-bar song selection that best shows your vocal range. Remember to bring your PIANO SHEET MUSIC for your song in a 3 ring binder with music CLEARLY marked. An accompanist will be provided. The sheet music MUST have the piano part, not just the vocal line.
  • You may be asked to show us your dance ability, so come prepared. Wear appropriate shoes and clothing you can move in. No flip flops.
  • Upon online registration, please be sure to upload a RECENT 8×10 headshot and an UPDATED performance resume; please ALSO bring your headshot and resume with you to your audition in case we request a paper copy.
  • Please plan to arrive at least 20 minutes ahead of your appointment for check-in.  If we are ahead of schedule, you may audition early. 

ABOUT STAR INTENSIVE NKU:
Our STAR Intensive NKU program is a four-week training program for students, ages 9-18. Students are accepted by audition only and will work with leading professionals in the theater business to help them become well-rounded performers in all areas of Musical Theatre.  The intensive culminates in a Musical Theatre showcase featuring some of the most popular songs from the Broadway repertoire as well as a fully produced One-Act festival!  STAR Intensive NKU participants will have the opportunity to be considered for STAR Cabaret and PROJECT Cabaret, a select group of students who participate in year-round training and coaching.  Participants will train with our expert teaching staff to be well-rounded musical theatre artists.  STAR Cabaret travels to a major entertainment city to perform a showcase for directors, agents, and casting experts, and PROJECT Cabaret will create a Musical Theatre capstone project.

When:  July 5 – July 30, 2017, weekdays 10 AM to 4 PM at Northern Kentucky University

Tuition: $625

Security deposit of $150 due upon acceptance into the program.  Payment plans and scholarships are available. 

ABOUT STAR CAMP RED BANK:
STAR Camp Red Bank is our program for gifted and talented students who are advanced in some areas of musical theatre and who have progressed beyond the basic levels of training.  For two weeks in July, a select number of students will work with leading professionals in the theater business to help them improve and become well-rounded performers in all areas of Musical Theatre.  STAR Red Bank culminates in a Musical Theatre showcase featuring some of the most popular songs and scenes from the Broadway repertoire!

When:  July 10-22, 2017, weekdays 10 AM to 4 PM at The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati’s new facility, 4015 Red Bank Road, Cincinnati, OH  45227

Tuition: $450
