SYNOPSIS
“A bluesy, country score by legend John Mellencamp and a claustrophobic, refractured parable from the master of thriller Stephen King combine to create the spooky, cautionary tale of Ghost Brothers of Darkland County. In an eerie cabin in the woods, a young couple come across its caretaker…who reveals to them an almost Biblically violent story that took place in that very house about a set of brothers who are in love with the same woman and the ensuing rivalry that sparks between them. The young couple hearing this tale realize that this cabin’s past is certainly like their present. When the young man’s brother shows up to stake a claim for the woman he loves, will they repeat the sins of the past – especially if it means staying alive?” -from Concord Theatricals site

CHARACTERS

  • Anna – female, 20s-40s – alto – sassy with a tough exterior, but internally conflicted about her choices. Engaged to Frank, but used to date his brother Drake
  • Frank – male, 20s-40s – bass/baritone – a literary type with a hidden mean streak, engaged to Anna and Drake’s older brother
  • Drake – male, 20s-40s – baritone – a wannabe musician who works at a gas station during the day. Used to date Anna. Frank’s younger brother
  • Caretaker – male, 40s-60s – tenor- a storyteller with wry humor, who looks for secrets in the past and the present while keeping the cabin, and its story, intact (for now)
  • Jenna – female, 20s – mezzo- sweet but scared and holding her own secrets. Struggling to decide between dating Jack or Andy
  • Andy – male, 20s – baritone – a bit of a country boy and an excellent shot, he competes with his brother Jack, both for the shooting crown and for Jenna
  • Jack – male, 20s – baritone – a recent college graduate and Frank’s younger brother, he’s determined to prove himself to both his brother and Jenna
  • The Troubadour – any age, any gender – tenor – a dark trickster, menacing but entertaining, who begins the story…and ends it
