THE THANKSGIVING PLAY
Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park
March 23-April 21
Shelterhouse Theater [Eden Park]

Directed by Lisa Portes

Cast: Jennifer Bareilles as Logan, Nat DeWolf as Caden, Ashley Austin Morris as Alicia & Scott Parkinson as Jaxton

Watch as a group of liberal artists walk the fine line of political correctness in this fresh, satirical comedy. Armed with progressive lingo and questionably good intentions, they attempt to devise a culturally sensitive Thanksgiving play for local elementary schools. Slowly but surely, the well-meaning plans dissolve into an outrageous sendup of PC behavior. THE THANKSGIVING PLAY treads the minefields of appropriation to inject some laughter into activism, apathy and all the assumptions in between. Advisory: THE THANKSGIVING PLAY is suitable for adults and teenage audiences. This biting satire contains mature themes and mild adult language about America’s sometimes troubling history. It also contains some questionable Thanksgiving reenactments. Be advised: no turkeys will be harmed in the making of this play.

Cast: Allen R. Middleton as Henry, Tracy M. Schoster as Eleanor, Greg Mallios as Richard, Jared Earland as Geoffrey, Clay Winstead as John, Lexi Rigsby as Alais & Dan Robertson as Philip

Sibling rivalry, adultery, and dungeons The Lion in Winter, by James Goldman, is a modern-day classic. Comedic in tone, dramatic in action the play tells the story of the Plantagenet family, who are locked in a free-for-all of competing ambitions to inherit a kingdom. The queen, and wealthiest woman in the world, Eleanor of Aquitaine, has been kept in prison since raising an army against her husband, King Henry II. Let out only for holidays, the play centers around the inner conflicts of the royal family as they fight over both a kingdom and King Henrys paramour during the Christmas of 1183. As Eleanor says, Every family has its ups and downs, and this royal family is no exception.

A rollicking hootenanny of a musical based on the true story of a legendary Texas brothel, which operated from the 1840s to 1973. Protected by a friendly sheriff and frequented by politicians, football teams, and others, the “Chicken Ranch” thrived in the small town of Gilbert, Texas. Girls came from all over to work at the ranch and make a little extra cash. However, a crusading do-gooder Houston radio commentator and his conservative audience expose the Chicken Ranch, forcing it to shut its doors forever.
