INTO THE WOODS Rehearsals Cancelled Through April 3 at Royal Theatre Company

RTC_logoWe have been closely monitoring the Coronavirus (Covid-19) recommendations from our local, state, and federal leaders to ensure that we maintain a safe environment for all our students, actors, directors, and volunteers. The Ohio Governor’s Office just announced that all Ohio schools will be required to close as of the end-of-school-day on Monday, March 16 through at least April 3.

As a result, we are going to follow our state government’s lead and CANCEL all Into the Woods rehearsals between March 16 – April 6.

Please know this is a hard decision for us to make, but we believe it’s the right one. The safety and well-being of everyone in our ROYAL family is of utmost importance to us, and it is our responsibility to do our part for the good of all. Although we had already ramped up our cleaning regimen when we learned of the virus, we will take measures to have the studio thoroughly cleaned and sanitized while it is closed.

As you know from the news coverage, this is an evolving situation that we will continue to monitor on a daily basis. At this point, it is our hope that the show will still go on, but rest assured, the safety and well-being of everyone in our ROYAL family is our top priority. We will continue to monitor the situation and take guidance from our local, state, and federal officials to make any future decisions regarding rehearsals and our performances. We will be sure to keep you informed of any future changes/decisions that need to be made.

Here are some helpful links to stay on top of what’s happening with the virus and recommendations to prevent its spread:

We wish good health for all of you, and we’ll look forward to seeing you again soon!

James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone’s favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece… and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.

The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

One of Sondheim’s most popular works, Into the Woods is a musically sophisticated show with the opportunity to feature actors adept at dark comedy.

What’s it like to be in a ROYAL show?

Fun! Kids and adults have a great time working together to produce a great show. Whether you’re on stage or part of the stage/tech crew you’re a valuable part of a terrific show.

Being part of a ROYAL show is a big commitment not only for the individual but for their family. Rehearsals are as frequent as 3 times per week, and for the week prior to the show we rehearse each evening at the theatre.

All the hard work is worth it and a life-long memory is yours to show for it!

Royal Theatre Company Stages FOOTLOOSE the Musical

RTC_Footloose cast

ROYAL Theatre Company, Home of The Children’s Theatre of Mason, is proud to present FOOTLOOSE The Musical June 7-9 at Mason High School.  The show will run for four performances – Friday, June 7th at 7:00pm; Saturday, June 8th at 2:00pm and 7:00pm; and Sunday, June 9th at 2:00pm. VIP reserved seating tickets can be purchased for any show for $25 each, and General admission tickets for any show are $12 each.  All tickets can be purchased online at www.ROYALTheatreCompany.com and at the door starting one hour before each show.

One of the most explosive movie musicals in recent memory comes to the live stage with exhilarating results. When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, Ren is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. What he isn’t prepared for are the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, determined to exercise the control over the town’s youth that he cannot command in his own home. When the reverend’s rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren’s reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid. The heartfelt story that emerges is of a father longing for the son he lost, and of a young man aching for the father who walked out on him. FOOTLOOSE The Musical celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people and guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind.

ROYAL Theatre Company is proud to honor the Shine Like Sable Foundation, which began in honor of Sable Gibson, a Mason 4th grader who passed suddenly in February.  Shine Like Sable’s mission is to spread kindness through weekday and weekend food packs, buddy bench awareness, supporting teachers or wherever kindness leads them. While she was at Western Row Elementary, Sable was known for hovering near the Buddy Bench, where students would sit when they were sad or needed a friend.  She was a friend to many, a loving daughter, and a beloved sibling.  Karen Kilgore, President of ROYAL Theatre Company said, “We are so proud to be able to honor the Shine Like Sable Foundation and continue the mission to spread kindness to others.”  We request that everyone wear pink to our shows, which was Sable’s favorite color.  ROYAL Theatre Company will be accepting donations and donating a portion of the proceeds from Footloose to the Shine Like Sable Foundation.
