PIRATES OF PENZANCE Postponed to 2021 at Voice of Indiana

VOI_logoHello all: Hope you are healthy and safe.

Due to COVID-19 situation, we have decided to postpone our PIRATES OF PENZANCE production until SUMMER of 2021. Target will be the last weekend in June. Our team determined this was the best option in this time of uncertainty.

Thank you for the care and energy each of you put into your audition video. I had mentioned before that our director was quite pleased with what he saw, and our whole team sincerely hopes EACH OF YOU will audition next Spring. We have the makings of an incredible cast…

Making an audition video was a new experience for us, and possibly for you. We learned from the process, and hope you did too. As VOICES OF INDIANA is at its heart an educational organization, our director is willing to provide constructive feedback to anyone that is interested. This is likely not the last time video auditions will be used by us or other groups, so we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity.

If interested in video audition feedback, please reply to this email.

Again, thank you, and we look forward to working with you next year.

Kristin Suess
Executive Director
Voices of Indiana

P.S. There are community groups who are mid-production and have had to suspend or delay their performances. Our team is offering up ourselves to assist if our time or skills would be helpful. If you know of a group that is seeking assistance, have them contact us. We are all in this together.

Voices of Indiana Presents MARY POPPINS

VOI_Mary Poppins logoLawrenceburg, IN – Voices of Indiana presents a Voices of Broadway production: MARY POPPINS.

Friday, August 7th and Saturday, August 8th at 7:00 p.m. in the Lawrenceburg High School Auditorium.

VOI was awarded a 2015 Summertime Kids Grant through the Greater Cincinnati Foundation to be used toward VOB and this production of MARY POPPINS.

Drawing talented performers from throughout the area, the cast includes youth participants in grades 4-12 and adults.

Directed by Susan Herrick and Jennifer Eliason, this presentation of MARY POPPINS is a family-friendly staging of the West End musical. With music and lyrics by the Academy Award-winning Sherman Brothers (with additional music and lyrics by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe) and a script by Julian Fellowes, the musical is based on the similarly titled series of children’s books by P. L. Travers and the 1964 Disney film, and is a fusion of various elements from the two.

Admission is $10 for adults or $5 for students; tickets are available at the door (cash or check accepted).

The title role is played by Bryssa Helton, a student at East Central High School. “This is a role in which I can just come alive as an actor. The stage is my home, and this opportunity is what I’ve been working toward since the beginning!”

Mary Poppins is the story of the Banks family who live in a big house in London on Cherry Lane. Things are not going well for the family, the children, Jane and Michael, are out of control and are in need of a new nanny. Jane and Michael have their own ideas about what sort of caretaker they should have, while their parents—and in particular Mr. Banks—are insistent on someone strict for the job.

When a mysterious young woman named Mary Poppins appears at their doorstep, the family finds that she’s the answer to their prayers, but in the most peculiar way. Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures, but Jane and Michael aren’t the only ones she has a profound effect upon. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that “anything can happen if you let it.”

An Education that Sings: Voices of Indiana was formed in 2001 by current Creative Director Susan Herrick, under the Dearborn Highland Arts Council, and became an independent organization in 2006. Featuring nearly 100 young people from the Tri-State, ranging from second grade through high school, Young Voices is the flagship program of Voices of Indiana. VOICES OF BROADWAY (VOB) is a summer program that seeks to build upon the foundations of the music education at the core of our program within the format of learning and performing a Broadway musical. A key objective of VOB is that it is inclusive; productions are chosen that have the option of flexible casting, and although roles are auditioned, all interested participants have a part in the production. VOI was awarded a 2015 Summertime Kids Grant through the Greater Cincinnati Foundation to be used toward VOB and this production of MARY POPPINS.

Voices of Indiana is a recognized 501c3 not-for-profit educational organization. Young Voices seeks to educate children through learning and sharing the gift of music by nurturing a singer’s heart, mind and soul. www.VoicesofIndiana.org.www.facebook.com/voicesofindiana.
