Auditions Announced for THE PRICE at Dayton Theatre Guild

DTGOpen audition notice for THE PRICE by Arthur Miller

Audition Dates: Mon & Tue, Feb 7 & 8, 2021, starting at 7:00 pm both nights.
Production dates: Mar 25-Apr 10, 2022

The Dayton Theatre Guild at the Caryl D. Philip TheatreScape
430 Wayne Ave, Dayton OH, 45410
937-278-5993 — www.daytontheatreguild.org

Directed by Debra Kent
Produced by K.L.Storer

Years after an angry breakup, two brothers, Victor and Walter Franz, are reunited by the death of their father. As they sort through his possessions in an old brownstone attic, the memories evoked by his belongings stir up old hostilities. THE PRICE is about family dynamics, the price of furniture and the price of one’s decisions. It premiered on Broadway in 1968, and has had four revivals since. The Price was nominated for two Tony Awards in 1968, including best play.

Casting Requirements:

  • Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.
  • A résumé and headshot are not required but are appreciated.
  • Please bring all scheduling conflicts between Feb 9 and Apr 10, 2022

MASKS ARE REQUIRED FOR EVERYONE AUDITIONING OR OTHERWISE.

ALL CAST AND CREW ARE REQUIRED TO BE VACCINATED FOR COVID-19

Roles available:

  • Victor Franz – Nearly 50*, and the youngest of the two brothers, a policeman
  • Esther Franz – Victor’s wife
  • Gregory Solomon – An antiques appraiser and buyer, somewhere close to 90*
  • Walter Franz – Oldest of the two brothers, mid-fifties or so*

It’s much more important that an actor be able to PLAY an age rather than actually BE the age.

The director is looking to cast two actors who can play brothers, one slightly older than the other, and both old enough to question the choices they’ve made in life.

Feb. 4-20
[Dayton]

Directed by David Shough
Produced by Christina Tomazinis & Rick Flynn

The Norwegians is a strong comedy about women scorned in Minnesota and the nice gangsters —- Norwegian hit men —- they hire to whack their ex-boyfriends. Olive is a transplant from Texas and Betty is a transplant from Kentucky, but neither of them were prepared for the Norwegian men they would fall in love with there: the practical, warm, thoughtful, destructive, evil, jilting kind. Olive attempts to hire Gus and Tor to do in her ex-boyfriend who did her wrong.

1/6/21 – In order to help ensure the health and safety of all our audience members, cast & crew members, and volunteers, we are requiring masks to be worn inside our building at all times, except when actively consuming liquid or food. We further are closing ticket sales at 75 per performance to better accommodate the ability for audience members to distance themselves from others, not part of their group, while seated in the theatre.

Director’s note: “Familiarity with (but not memorization of) the selections will be a good thing at audition; cold readings demonstrate your ability to read; I would like to see something of your ability to create a character.”

  • Please bring a résumé and headshot.
  • Please bring all scheduling conflicts between Dec 8, 2021 and Feb 20, 2022.

Character descriptions are below. The two men need passable Minnesota accents ‐‐ (recommended viewing, the Coen Bros. movie Fargo). Please take your best shot at the accent at auditions.
Race is not relevant for the women.
All characters play 30s to 40s.

You need only attend one night, but are welcome at both. If you cannot attend either audition date, contact the director at davids@pbstudios.com or 937-626-2674, and we will make time.

Performance dates: February 4-20, 2022.
Rehearsals will run through the holidays with appropriate accommodation of the schedules of all involved.

Seeking 2 women, 2 men. Please see detailed descriptions of the roles below.

  • Tor: The gentler, more reflective of the two gangsters.
  • Gus: More impulsive and brash than Tor (though in a really nice way). Might be part Italian.
  • Olive: A Texas transplant (no accent), not at home in Minnesota yet. And not at all sure this is what she wants to do. A bit naïve.
  • Betty: A Kentucky transplant. She’s been in Minnesota longer, and it has made her harder, more cynical. And given to long speeches
