Auditions Announced for PIPPIN at Harrison Center for the Arts

HCA is excited to announce our upcoming production of PIPPN! Performances will run from Thursday, August 6 through Sunday, August 9. Auditions will be held in just a few weeks at the Harrison Township Civic Center:

  • Dates: Monday, April 6 & Wednesday, April 8
  • Time: Starting at 6:45 PM

Heir to the Frankish throne, the young prince Pippin is in search of the secret to true happiness and fulfillment. He seeks it in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh and the intrigues of political power (after disposing of his father, King Charlemagne the Great). In the end, though, Pippin finds that happiness lies not in extraordinary endeavors, but rather in the unextraordinary moments that happen every day. [From Playbill]

Character List

  • Leading Player (The ultimate ‘ring leader.’ Masterfully charming and manipulative, the Leading Player is a chameleon of sorts. Guides Pippin through his own story and tries to intervene at the end.)
  • Pippin (Our story’s young and confused protagonist. He is longing to find his purpose in life. Naive, innocent, and discontent. Eventually finds love, and meaning in life, with Catherine and Theo.)
  • Charles (Pippin’s demanding father. As the King of the Holy Roman Empire, Charlemagne is more comfortable wielding a sword than breaking bread. He wears his years with great pride.)
  • Lewis (Pippin’s half-brother)
  • Fastrada (Pippin’s conniving stepmother. A seductress, who is no stranger to deceit and betrayal, she is both sexy and smart. Skilled at using her sexual appeal to benefit her and her son.)
  • Berthe (Pippin’s saucy grandmother. A brassy broad full of wisdom, grace, and sass. She tries to help Pippin and encourages him to live his life to the fullest.)
  • Catherine (A widow and mother. She is a beautiful and a hopeless romantic, who possesses graceful elegance. Encounters Pippin at his lowest point and eventually falls in love with him.)
  • Theo (Catherine’s son)
  • Ensemble (Charlemagnes Army, Monks, Nobility, Peasants, The Players)

Auditions will be held at the Harrison Township Civic Center. Actors will be asked to read from the script as well as sing a song from the show (options TBD). Depending on the situation, actors may be asked to read more than once. If needed, callbacks will be held on Thursday, April 9 at 7 pm. A cast read-through will be held on Monday, April 13 at 7 pm. Performances of PIPPIN will be Thursday, August 6 – Sunday, August 9. More information on the schedule and important dates will be available at auditions.

So what is this show about? Annie was working late in the family run flower shop one night, when someone crept up behind her and murdered her. Could it have been Iris her aunt-in-law or Lily her sister-in-law? Why was she murdered? Jealousy, money, or both? As Annie roams the audience, be prepared for her ghostly presence to plead for help.
