The collaboration honors Richard J. Collins, late artistic director of the Cincinnati Ballet Company, 1990-1991.

Debbie Blunden-Diggs is in her 11th season as Artistic Director of the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company (DCDC), and performed with the Company for more than 20 years. She is also an accomplished choreographer, creating works for the company that have become part of their artistic blue print. Her notable works include Configurations, Kaleidoscope, Fragments, In My Father’s House and Traffic. Blunden-Diggs has also served as the company’s Associate Artistic Director and Deputy Director for Arts and Operations.  In addition to her role as Artistic Director of DCDC, she is an adjunct professor at the University of Dayton Theatre, Dance & Performance Technology department.  James Cunningham is a Soloist with Cincinnati Ballet and began choreographing at the University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music (CCM), through composition courses and yearly student choreographed showcases. Since joining the Cincinnati Ballet in 2008, he has been commissioned to create site-specific works for chamber orchestra group Concert:Nova and the Constella Music Festival. He continued to refine his craft and find his personal style through two Cincinnati Ballet Choreographic Workshop creations, Seven and Ancora, danced by the Cincinnati Ballet Second Company. His version of Peter and the Wolf has been presented as part of Cincinnati Ballet’s Ballet Toybox production and also through education and outreach performances.

In the spring of 2016, BalletMet dancers and producers of The Benefit, a charity event for children with hemophilia, invited Cunningham to create Meandering Heartbeat in collaboration with the local rock group The Wind and The Sea and Columbus Symphony musicians. Later that year, Cunningham choreographed a brand new work for the students at CCM and his piece, Prohibition Condition was featured in Cincinnati Ballet’s main stage production of Director’s Cut. Steve Sucato from ArtsAir said, “Cunningham’s well-crafted choreography balanced clever movement with bravura ballet fireworks.” In January 2017, he choreographed a world premiere pas de deux for Cincinnati Ballet dancers, entitled Garcia Counterpoint, with music by Bryce Dessner, as part of the MusicNow Festival.

André Megerdichian is an Assitant Professor of Dance at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM). Born in New York City and raised in Beirut, Athens, and Geneva. He has performed for over a decade with esteemed companies and choreographers including the Jose Limon Dance Company, Janis Brenner and Dancers, the Mary Anthony Dance Theatre, Soundance Repertory Company, Reidel Dance Theatre, Daniel Charon and Sean Curran. He was a principal dancer with Dance Kaleidoscope, under the artistic direction of David Hochoy (former rehearsal director of the Martha Graham Dance Company) for seven seasons. During his time in Indiana, Megerdichian was awarded the 2003 Creative Renewal Arts Fellowship by the Indianapolis Arts Council, for his sustained artistic contributions to the community.

In 1995 Megerdichian was invited to create his first evening-length work titled Moving Light, performed in the Statkino Theatre in Salzeburg, Austria, by the Painted Lights Dance Project. Since then, his choreography has been produced by the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the Sharon Disney Lund School of Dance at the California Institute of the Arts, the Deadulus Project, Dance Kaleidoscope, the Anderson Young Ballet Theatre, Ball State University and the University of Indianapolis.

The Cincinnati Ballet Second Company is a group of up-and-coming professional dancers who come from around the world to study at Cincinnati Ballet and perform alongside Cincinnati Ballet’s Company dancers. Second Company dancers rehearse with the company on a full time basis, 9 am-6 pm every weekday, as well as serve as education outreach ambassadors for the organization. With a focus on engaging audiences of all ages, Second Company dancers bring the joy of dance to thousands of students and community members each year through schools, community centers, churches, nursing homes and more.

Get Spooky at Know Theatre’s HALLOWEEN HORROR DOUBLE BILL

KTC_Halloween Horror promo

13 DEAD DREAMS OF EUGENE from Paul Strickland & Erika Kate MacDonald
and THE ZOMBIE ODYSSEY TRILOGY Ricky Coates
October 20 – November 4, 2017

Know Theatre’s landmark 20th Anniversary Season continues this October with a special, limited run of not one but TWO original Halloween shows!

Created by Cincinnati Fringe Festival veterans Paul Strickland & Erika Kate MacDonald and Ricky Coates & Sadie Bowman, these two brand-new tales of horror (and unexpected humor) take over the Know MainStage and will run in repertory from October 20 – November 4.

13 DEAD DREAMS OF EUGENE comes to us from Paul Strickland & Erika Kate MacDonald, creators of past Cincy Fringe favorites Trailer Park Trilogy, Ice Candle (now titled “Evacuated!”), and co-creators of 2015’s Andy’s House of [blank]. These perennial Cincy Fringe hitmakers never disappoint in their theatricality or creativity!

Their new, unsettling shadow play with music is based on a true story, and was originally developed for the Minnesota Horror Fest in 2016.

Synopsis: 1929, a dead body is found and placed on display in hopes of identification. That’s when the “Dead Dreams” began. Experience the shared recurring nightmares that haunted the sleepy town of Sabina OH, and the stranger-than-fiction story of “Eugene.”

Running in repertory with 13 DEAD DREAMS OF EUGENE is THE ZOMBIE ODYSSEY, a trilogy of solo-performance zombie tales created by Ricky Coates (previously seen at Cincy Fringe in Tesla ex Machina).

THE ZOMBIE ODYSSEY is an unexpected story about the humanity of a zombie that’s a unique blend of physical theater and radio drama and unfolds in three episodes…

THE ZOMBIE ODYSSEY (Episode 1)

A fatality. A wakening. A hunger. So begins newly undead Brian Smith’s epic journey to reunite with his wife. As he battles through an all-too-familiar landscape, getting shot, stripped, strangled, chewed, drugged, and electrocuted, the line between man and monster begins to blur…

THE IDES OF UNDEAD MARCH (Episode 2)

The Zombie uprising meets Julius Caesar. Brian Smith reappears as the Prophet of the Phoenix, spreading the “Word of the Host” along the help of his hearse-driving herald, Eli. Unfortunately, this pilgrimage is proving dangerously infectious…

DAUGHTER OF THE DEAD (Episode 3)

In a world where robot drones war with zombie hordes, Penny Smith smuggles herself across a torn land, searching for the man who started it all, her husband. In her arms, she carries the fate of zombies and humans alike. The final act brings audiences to the bottom of the rabbit hole in a post-apocalyptic sci-fi extravaganza, as Sadie Bowman (Calculus: The Musical, The Famous Haydell Sisters) joins Ricky Coates for the most ambitious play of the trilogy.

Told in the style of an action movie, often with just one actor on stage, THE ZOMBIE ODYSSEY TRILOGY is an R-rated concoction of puppets, robots, philosophy, fights, blood, guts, sex, and dark laughs – just about everything you would want in Halloween-themed entertainment! Each episode is a standalone story in its own style, but Cincinnati audiences will be the first to have the chance to experience the complete epic narrative by seeing all three!

Celebrate the spookiest time of year with this limited-time-only double bill from two sets of the nation’s most innovative fringe theatre performers – only at Your Theatrical Playground.

Expect the Unexpected at CARNEGIE MISCAST on Oct. 28

TC_theatre full stageNew unique cabaret-style event to feature local theatre performers in unexpected roles

(COVINGTON, KY) – Actors have a list of roles they’d love to play, some more realistic than others. For one night only, patrons at The Carnegie can expect the unexpected as Carnegie Miscast gives local theatre performers the chance to tackle songs they wouldn’t traditionally have the opportunity perform in front of an audience.

Slated for Saturday, October 28, the Carnegie Miscast lineup includes actors such as Justin Glaser, Helen Raymond Goers, Leslie Kelly, Kim Schroeder Long, Allen R. Middleton, among others. And while the performance list will remain secret until that night, attendees can look forward to Broadway classics such as “You’ll Be Back,” (HAMILTON), “Agony,” (INTO THE WOODS), “I Believe,” (THE BOOK OF MORMON), “For Forever,” (DEAR EVAN HANSON), and “Cell Block Tango”, (CHICAGO).

Carnegie Miscast is a fun, mixed-up fundraiser that lets our local talent take a shot at some of their favorite musical theatre hits, even if they’d never get to play the role on stage,” said Maggie Perrino, Theatre Director at The Carnegie. “It’s sure to surprise, delight, and have you rolling in the aisles.”

Tickets to The Carnegie Miscast are $45, $35 for Carnegie Members, and include two drink tickets, and post-performance dessert reception and dance party featuring music from DJ Mowgli. Tickets may be purchased through The Carnegie Box Office at 859.957.1940, open Tuesday through Friday, noon to 5pm, or online at www.thecarenegie.com.  Doors open at 8pm.

NATURAL CAUSES Brings Laughter to The Drama Workshop

TDW_NATURAL CAUSES PROMO 1

Mistaken identities, romance, and two visitors at cross-purposes headline The Drama Workshop’s production of NATURAL CAUSES, opening October 6 in Cheviot. Jeff Neiman as Vincent & Eric Thomas as Walter Bryce. Photo by Kristy Rucker.

(Cheviot, Ohio) The Drama Workshop presents the second show of its exciting 2017-2018 theatrical season with the side-splitting comedy ‘Natural Causes.’

The production opens October 6, and runs through October 22 with performances on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for three weekends. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 8 pm, while Sunday afternoon matinees begin at 2 pm. All performances are at The Glenmore Playhouse, 3716 Glenmore Ave in Cheviot.

This is a hilarious tale of Vincent and his unusual occupation as a “professional suicide merchant.” When Vincent is invited to Walter’s lovely country house to assist in the disposal of Walter’s wife, Celia, he senses something is wrong. Why are the suicide notes unsigned? What is the role of Walter’s attractive secretary? Why has the Samaritan been sent for? Will any of them die, willingly or unwillingly, from natural causes? ‘Natural Causes’ is a sure-fire prescription for laughter!

TDW’s production is spearheaded by an award-winning production team led by director Ray Lebowski and producer Ray Persing, and includes an accomplished technical team of Melissa Smith, Jason Cox, Jef Brown, Elaine Volker, and Dennis Murphy. The show features the talents of Elizabeth Beatty, Adam Drake, Rusty Lacy, Jeff Neiman, and Eric Thomas.

Over the last few years, Eric Thomas has become a regular performer at The Drama Workshop, last appearing as Felix in ‘The Odd Couple.’  He was drawn to ‘Natural Causes’ because of the characters. “Flawed as they are, they are quickly sympathetic and somehow you don’t mind that they are pursuing some rather dark goals,” he explained. “There are some truly laugh-out-loud moments in this show.  When the same lines the cast and crew have heard dozens of times in rehearsals are still getting laughs, you know it’s a good one.”

Tickets to ‘Natural Causes’ are $18 each if ordered in advance, or $20 at the door. Show dates and times are October 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21 at 8 pm, and October 8, 15, and 22 at 2 pm. Shows frequently sell out, and reservations are strongly recommended. Tickets can be ordered through The Drama Workshop’s ticket line at 513.598.8303, or ordered online via the TDW website at www.thedramaworkshop.org.
