The Company makes its return to newly renovated Music Hall with the iconic tale

CINCINNATI. (September 27)–Cincinnati Ballet returns to the newly renovated Cincinnati Music Hall with six performances of Victoria Morgan’s passionate ROMEO & JULIET, October 26 through 29.

Victoria Morgan brings the most well-known love story of all time, ROMEO & JULIET, to life with a dazzling blend of dance and drama. Shakespeare’s legendary tale, written nearly 420 years ago, continues to captivate audiences with the unfolding of a great romance destined for tragedy. “Shakespeare’s story is poignant, honest, and beautifully portrays conflicts that are more relevant today than ever,” says Morgan. “It is a joy to be able to give life to his words through dance.”

Morgan’s ROMEO & JULIET was last performed in 2013. The performance is set to SergeiProkofiev’s breathtaking score, performed live by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and conducted by Cincinnati Ballet Music Director, Carmon DeLeone.

This season’s production will be part of the five-week Music Hall Grand Opening celebrations. The Company joins Cincinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestras, Cincinnati Opera, and May Festival, as a Music Hall resident performing company with three total productions this season, leading with Romeo & Juliet and followed by The Nutcracker in December, and Carmina Burana + Serenade in February, 2018

“For our return to the newly renovated venue, we wanted to present something that feels historic, and that is powerful and elegant like Music Hall,” says Artistic Director Victoria Morgan. “The devotion to Music Hall’s refurbishment is a labor of love undertaken by our community, and truly inspires our artists and audiences. Romeo & Juliet makes for the perfect return to a glorious cultural gem.”

Music Hall, one of the nation’s most treasured performance venues, has undergone a major renovation in Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine neighborhood that will realize long-awaited updates and upgrades throughout the iconic structure, build upon its world-class acoustics, and retain the hall’s historic grandeur.The $143 million renovation is supported by public and private contributions, and adds more than 31,500 square footage to the historic icon.

A welcome addition, a rehearsal studio for the Company has been created, the Harry T. Wilks Studio, and includes sprung floors, marley, and ballet barres. The Company will be able to utilize the space to rehearse multiple casts simultaneously while occupying the hall.

Additonal renovations include a refreshed exterior that connects the hall more directly to the neighborhood; a revitalized Springer Auditorium with new, more comfortable seating and flexible configurations for different types of performances; new practice rooms, dressing rooms and other backstage necessities for performers; a new large rehearsal/event space; expanded restrooms and concessions; and other enhancements to improve the patron and artist experience.

Cincinnati Ballet President & CEO Scott Altman has been named one of the Real Men Wear Pink candidates. Through a special partnership with Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, presented by TriHealth, 10% of ticket sales for the October 26 opening night performance of Romeo & Juliet will be donated to the American Cancer Society, in an effort raise awareness and support breast cancer research.

Cincinnati Ballet Young Professionals (CBYP) presents YP night at Romeo & Juliet. Kick off a new season of exciting events with cocktails and dinner by the bite with fellow YPs, October 26 at 5:30 pm in Music Hall’s Corbett Tower, followed by the opening night performance of Romeo & Juliet. The event is free, but RSVP is required. Contact events@cballet.org. To request YP Night media tickets, contact akruger@cballet.org.

The Re(new)ed Celebration, a free community event which includes a behind-the-scenes look at the state-of-the art, newly-renovated Music Hall, will be held Saturday, October 7, from 10 am-3 pm. The event, presented by ArtsWave, will feature more than 50 live performances by Cincinnati Ballet, the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestras, Cincinnati Opera, May Festival, and additional arts groups. The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati Presents PETER PAN JR. This October at the Taft Theatre!

The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati presents PETER PAN JR. October 21-30, 2017 at the Taft Theatre.  Based on J.M. Barrie’s enchanting play, Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up, Peter Pan JR. is a modern version of the timeless tale about the adventures of a mischievous boy.  This is the first production in TCT’s 2017-2018 MainStage season at the Taft Theatre.

The musical features music by Morris (Moose) Charlap with additional music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Carolyn Leigh with additional lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green.  The show was originally directed, choreographed and adapted by Jerome Robbins.

“Peter Pan JR. is a story which encourages each of us to reconnect with the spirit of youth,” says Roderick Justice, Producing Artistic Director for The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati and director of TCT’s PETER PAN JR. production.  “[Ringing Bell Sound],” adds Tinker Bell.  *At press time Peter Pan was not available to translate for Tinker Bell.

In PETER PAN JR. Wendy, Michael and John Darling meet and befriend Peter Pan when the mysterious boy and a fairy named Tinker Bell enter their nursery in search of Peter’s lost shadow.

Peter whisks his new friends away to Neverland, an island with “hardly any space between one adventure and the other.” There, Peter introduces the Darling children to his fellow Lost Boys, children who – like Peter – never grow up. The crew launches into a great adventure where they encounter Brave Girls, led by the incredible Tiger Lily, and Pirates led by the dreaded Captain Hook, played by Local 12’s own Bob Herzog. Challenges ensue when the Darling children are ensnared in Captain Hook’s sinister plan to seek revenge on Peter.

PETER PAN JR. presented by The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati, October 21-22 and 27-29, 2017.  Saturday, October 21 at 2 PM* (this performance is signed for the hearing impaired), Sunday, October 22 at 2 PM, Sunday, October 22 at 5 PM, Friday, October 27 at 7:30 PM, Saturday, October 28 at 2 PM, Saturday, October 28 at 5 PM, Sunday, October 29 at 2 PM at the Taft Theatre, 5th and Sycamore Streets in Downtown Cincinnati. Tickets start at $10.  1-800-745-3000 and www.ticketmaster.com.

TCT’s Sensory Friendly performance of PETER PAN JR. will be held on Monday, October 30 at 9:45 AM.  This performance is intended for individuals on the autism spectrum, as well as children (and adults) with other special needs who may benefit. To create a sensory-friendly performance, the show is performed in a welcoming, supportive environment for those with sensory challenges.  Slight adjustments to lighting and sound are made and effects such as fog, strobes, and lights that extend into the audience are minimalized.  A downloadable Social Narrative (in Word format) is made available on the TCT website one week before the performance.  At the theater, TCT provides an area staffed by specialists in the field where patrons can take a break from the performance if necessary, and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center has trained staff on hand.  For details about how to purchase tickets to this performance, visit www.thechildrenstheatre.com.

Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati Opens Newly Renovated Facilities and its 2017-2018 Season with the Regional Premiere of THIS RANDOM WORLD

ETC_The Random World logo(Cincinnati, OH) Roll out the red carpet! Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati begins the 2017-2018 Season in its newly renovated theatre with the charming regional premiere of This Random World, a wistful drama by award-winning playwright Steven Dietz. This funny, intimate, and heartbreaking story about the power of chance takes audiences on a journey of self-discovery. Playing October 10-November 4, 2017. Directed by D. Lynn Meyers. Production sponsor is the Otto M. Budig Family Foundation.

Fate or luck? Happy coincidence or unintended consequence? Call it what you will, but how often do we intersect with someone else’s world and never even know it? Mining the comedy of missed connections, this humorous and bittersweet new play explores the myriad lives that may be happening just out of reach of our own. From dirty diners to beautiful Japanese temples to possibly haunted funeral homes, seven intertwined characters meet—or don’t meet—in imaginative and unexpected ways.

“What better way to open our newly remodeled, beautiful space than with a voice that our audiences have come to know and love,” explains Producing Artistic Director D. Lynn Meyers. “Steven Dietz’s work is honest, complex, and beautiful. This Random World is about missed connections and the what-ifs in our lives. This was also a play that allowed me to hire some magnificent actors, some that have been with us many times and others that are taking our stage for the first time.”

Cincinnati Shakespeare Company Stages Bloodcurdling DRACULA for Halloween Season at the New Otto M. Budig Theater

The Debut Season at The Otto M. Budig Theater continues with the iconic tale
of good versus evil

CINCINNATI, September 15, 2017 – Cincinnati Shakespeare Company continues its debut season at The Otto M. Budig Theater with DRACULA by Steven Dietz, from the novel by Bram Stoker opening Friday October 13. The production runs through November 4, and is directed by Producing Artistic Director Brian Isaac Phillips. Longtime ensemble member Giles Davies reprises his role as Dracula, alongside Artistic Associate Miranda McGee as Lucy, Jim Hopkins as Van Helsing, Crystian Wiltshire as Jonathan Harker, Caitlin McWethy as Mina, Billy Chace as Renfield, and Kyle Brumley as Dr. Seward. All seats in the new Otto M. Budig Theater are less than 20 feet from the stage so audiences will be amazed at how close to the passion they will be!

British solicitor Jonathan Harker (Crystian Wiltshire) falls mysteriously ill as he travels to the Carpathian Mountains to conduct business with his client, the wealthy and elderly Count Dracula (Giles Davies). Upon recovering, Harker believes that the terrible things he has witnessed at the Count’s castle are nothing but the hallucinations brought on by a fever. Meanwhile, Dracula has departed for his new home in England, where Lucy (Miranda McGee), the best friend of Harker’s fiancée Mina (Caitlin McWethy), has likewise become inexplicably ill. As Lucy slowly dies, Harker realizes that he must revisit his own terrifying memories of Dracula to save his beloved Mina from the deaths that follow wherever the Count goes.

“I have long been a fan of horror novels, horror films, and all things macabre,” says Brian Isaac Phillips, CSC’s Producing Artistic Director and director of DRACULA. “To bring this script to life on the new stage at The Otto M. Budig Theater is a delightful Halloween treat – not just for myself, but for the whole city.” Stephen Dietz’s stage adaptation of the quintessential Victorian vampire tale is fast-paced and action-packed, utilizing frequent location jumps to create a narrative whirlwind. “As a Shakespeare company, we’re very well qualified to take on that format,” Mr. Phillips explains, “because Shakespeare does that so much, so we’re practiced in using storytelling tricks and techniques to make those transitions clear and exciting.”

DRACULA runs October 13- November 4, with performances on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 PM and Sundays at 2:00 PM, as well as Saturday November 4 at 2:00 PM. Preview performances are on Wednesday October 11 and Thursday October 12 at 7:30.

The theater is now located at 1195 Elm Street in OTR, adjacent to Washington Park. Single ticket prices range from $27-$52. Preview performances are $28. If available, $14 student rush tickets may be purchased thirty minutes before a show with a valid student ID. This production is a Special Event and is not part of this season’s subscription package but subscribers do receive 15% off tickets. Visa, Discover, MasterCard, and American Express are accepted. Ticketing fees may apply.  Discounts are available for students, seniors, area residents, and groups as well as AAA members. To purchase tickets or for more information, call the CSC Box Office at 513.381.BARD (2273) ext. 1, or go online at http://www.cincyshakes.com.
