MISSION
American Legacy Theatre generates inviting, reimagined theatrical experiences for all people to have a voice in enriching society.
PROJECT
Clos(in)g is a new drama by ALT Playwright-in-Residence Megan Benjamin Bennett, making its world premiere in January 2027.
When the close-knit residents of an apartment building gather to mourn their beloved matriarch, Angela Martin, they receive devastating news: their building has been sold, and the new owners are demanding a 200% rent increase.
Faced with an impossible choice to pay up or move out, the residents must confront what it means to lose not just their homes, but the community they’ve built together. Blending humor and heartbreak, Clos(in)g explores family, identity, belonging, and the relationships that sustain us in times of uncertainty.
** Rehearsals will be five days per week, including weekends, from December 6th-January 14th (with a 2 week break from December 21st through January 2nd). These rehearsals will take place in the evenings during the week and varying times when on weekends. Tech rehearsals will begin January 9th or 10th and run through the 14th, depending on space availability. Designers should be available during tech week and for a designer’s run earlier in the process.
*** Performances will be January 15-17, 22-24, and 29-31. (Friday and Saturday evenings, Sunday matinees).
EXPECTATION
