Gideon Productions Presents World Premiere of MUSICAL CHAIRS at the Cincinnati Fringe Festival

CFF18_Musical Chairs logoWRITTEN BY MAC ROGERS
DIRECTED BY JORDANA WILLIAMS

JUNE 3rd – JUNE 9th @ MEMORIAL HALL STUDIO

Gideon Productions, the company behind the Cincy Fringe hits God Of Obsidian (winner of last year’s Linda Bowen Full Frontal Pick) and Ligature Marks (a CityBeat Critic’s Pick), will present the World Premiere of playwright Mac Rogers’ (The Honeycomb Trilogy; the global hit podcasts The Message and Steal The Stars) poly-amorous drama MUSICAL CHAIRS, running from June 3rd to June 9th at the Memo Studio at Memorial Hall as part of the Cincinnati Fringe Festival. The production will be directed by Jordana Williams (Steal the Stars; The Honeycomb Trilogy) and will feature Rebecca Comtois (Viral; Steal the Stars), Mac Rogers (NYIT Outstanding Lead Actor Nominee for The Adventures of Nervous-Boy with Nosedive Productions), and Kristen Vaughan (Frankenstein Upstairs, The Honeycomb Trilogy, NYIT Outstanding Lead Actress Winner for Benefactors).

A three-person relationship wouldn’t be most people’s cup of tea, but for Jess, Owen, and Ruth, it seems to work. So they decide to make it official: Ruth moves in. They figure out how to make it legal. It’s only then that the three spouses learn that marriage – especially in a scarily changing world – isn’t any easier with three.

Musical Chairs will run June 3 at 4pm, June 4 at 7:45pm, June 6 at 8:30pm, June 8 at 6:30pm and June 9 at 8:30pm, as part of the Cincinnati Fringe Festival at the Memorial Hall Studio (1225 Elm Street, Cincinnati, OH, 45202). Tickets ($15) may be purchased online at www.cincyfringe.com. The show will run 60 minutes with no intermission.

MAC ROGERS (Playwright and Owen) is an award-winning playwright and audio dramatist. His sci-fi thriller podcasts The Message, Steal the Stars, and LifeAfter were downloaded over 7 million times.  His plays include The Honeycomb Trilogy (New York Times and Backstage Critic’s Picks and winner of the NYIT Award for Best Premiere Production), Viral (winner of Outstanding Play at FringeNYC 2009), and Universal Robots (nominated for four New York Innovative Theatre awards). Mac’s plays have earned acclaim from The New York Times, The Guardian, Time Out New York, The New York Post, and many others.

JORDANA WILLIAMS (Director) directed Mac Rogers’ hit audio drama Steal the Stars, as well as many of his plays, including God of Obsidian (Full Frontal Pick), Ligature Marks (CityBeat Critic’s Pick), The Honeycomb Trilogy (NY Times and Time Out NY Critics’ Picks), Universal Robots and Viral. Other favorite directing work includes Kill Shakespeare at NY Comic Con and The Particulars with The Bridge Theater Company, FringeNYC.

REBECCA COMTOIS (Jess) previously appeared at the Cincy Fringe in God of Obsidian (Full Frontal Pick) and Ligature Marks (CityBeat Critic’s Pick). She also work with Mac Rogers and Jordana Williams on the hit podcast Steal The Stars as well as on the plays Viral (Winner of FringeNYC’s Outstanding Production of a Play) and The Honeycomb Trilogy (NY Times and Time Out NY Critics’ Picks).  Other notable roles include Jenny in James Comtios’ Infectious Opportunity (Nosedive Productions) and Mag in Taylor Mac’s The Hot Month with Carol Kane (Boomerang’s Legacy Reading Series).

KRISTEN VAUGHAN (Ruth) is a three-time NYIT Awards nominee for Lead Actress, winning for Jane in Benefactors (Retro Productions).  Among Kristen’s other roles; Amelia Cooke in The Honeycomb Trilogy and Victoria Frankenstein in Frankenstein Upstairs (Gideon Productions), and Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire (Bleecker Company).  www.kristenvaughan.com

Critical acclaim for Gideon Productions:

“Television is where you find complicated storytelling. Film is the home of epic sci-fi trilogies. Giant aliens are expensive. Mac Rogers’s “Honeycomb Trilogy,” a titanic story about humanity in crisis wedged into a small theater in Queens, laid waste to these truisms, and provided giddy, cerebral fun along the way.” The New York Times

“Mac Rogers—genre playwright extraordinaire—can rant like Sorkin, plot like Mamet, banter like Whedon and sting like a bee.”  Time Out New York

“This is full-on, unapologetic science fiction with a galactic-scale backdrop involving interstellar trips and an insectoid race.” New York Post

“One of the most intelligent and complex theatrical events of the year.” Flavorpill

GIDEON PRODUCTIONS crafts gripping plays that explore what’s strange about being human and what’s human about being strange, using familiar genres and cultural touchstones as a springboard to something wholly unexpected.

Award Winning Comedian + Magician Erik Tait Asks You to PLEASE SHUFFLE THE CARDS at Cincy Fringe

CFF18_ Please Shuffle the Cards logoAward winning comedian + magician Erik Tait is proud to announce that his acclaimed show PLEASE SHUFFLE THE CARDS is a part of the main lineup for the Cincinnati Fringe Festival. This is the third major run of the show, having completed two separate runs in Columbus to widespread acclaim. PLEASE SHUFFLE THE CARDS is a one man show featuring high end sleight of hand developed by the writer performer himself. This production explores the relationship between magic and skill as it endeavors to see how close a magician can come to divulging the secrets he is sworn to keep.

The evening begins when the house opens with a card table on stage and a deck of cards that the audience is invited to thoroughly examine and shuffle. Once the lights go down and the show begins Erik Tait sits behind the table and begins a presentation that Brad Keefe of the Columbus Alive called, “Refreshingly honest about dishonesty.” The show barrels forwards towards the mind bending finale that everyone in the audience is apart of.

One highlight of the show is Erik’s signature effect The Invisible Three Card Monte. This effect earned Erik first prize in a regional magic competition in 2017, and has been invited to compete at the International Brotherhood of Magician’s North American Close Up Contest in July of this year. The effect also earned the notice of television producers and will be making an appearance on network television later this summer.

PLEASE SHUFFLE THE CARDS is more than a magic show. It’s one man’s love affair with 52 pieces of paper turned high concept monologue with a visual twist. While the show consists of close up sleight of hand, a high definition camera system is trained on the table top from the very beginning so every member of the audience can scrutinize the action. There isn’t a bad seat in the house. This isn’t like any card trick you’ve seen before.

Erik Tait is an award winning comedian + magician and top graduate from the Humber College Comedy Writing and Performance program. He is currently the only magician in the world with a degree in comedy, therefore he can academically prove that his magic is hilarious. He has been featured in The Los Angeles Comedy Festival, The Arch City Comedy Festival, The Whiskey Bear Comedy Festival, and appeared at The World Famous Magic Castle. He is also the host and writer of the comedy trivia podcast The Quiz Box as well as a writer performer for the sketch comedy troupe Monday Night Live. He has performed on stages North and South America as well as Europe and a handful of islands in the Caribbean. When he’s not performing he stands quietly in camera shops and tries to justify spending more money on photography equipment to support his habit of taking wildlife photos.

Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati Closes 2017-2018 Season with Revival of HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH, June 5-July 1, 2018

ETC_Old Hedwig

(Cincinnati, OH) Take a walk on the wild side! Dressed to impress, Todd Almond steps back into the title role of Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati’s season closer Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Written by John Cameron Mitchell with music and lyrics by Stephen Trask, this award-winning rock musical is an innovative, heartbreaking, and wickedly funny story of a gender-crossed glam rocker determined to become a superstar. The regional revival of ETC’s 2001 and 2003 hit production is a rocking ride, entertaining, touching, and ultimately inspiring to anyone who has felt life gave them an inch when they deserved a mile. Playing June 5-July 1, 2018. Directed by D. Lynn Meyers. Presented by The Rosenthal Family Foundation and sponsored by LPK.

This landmark musical tells the captivating story of Hedwig, a fourth-wall-smashing, rock ‘n’ roll goddess. Backed by her punk rock band “The Angry Inch,” Hedwig weaves her tragically beautiful journey: escaping East Berlin as Hansel and arriving at a Kansas trailer park as Hedwig. Through the soaring rock songs and sidesplitting monologues, we follow Hedwig as she stalks rock star Tommy Speck’s world tour. Divided between conqueror and victim, Hedwig demands redress from Tommy for stealing her songs, her fame, and her love. Called “the best rock musical ever,” by Rolling Stone, this genre-bending musical sensation, with a pulsing score and electrifying performances, is a darkly humorous tale about sacrifice, gender identity, and love in all its forms.

“We were compelled to do Hedwig and the Angry Inch this season to celebrate a play that kept us open in 2001 when very few people were coming to Over-the-Rhine,” says Producing Artistic Director D. Lynn Meyers. “However, we survived and are now thriving. A lot of that started with Hedwig. It’s amazing to tell a story with this much heart, compassion, and understanding that also has an amazing score and an awesome band. It’s going to be fabulous!”

CINCINNATI, OH – 98° will embark on a 36-date tour this Christmas season. Fans responded with overwhelming positive messages to last year’s hit-filled, high-energy, fun-filled holiday show, so this year, more dates and new cities have been added. 98° last Christmas tour played to packed houses across the country. This year’s 98° at Christmas 2018 kicks off on Thursday, November 1 in Winnipeg, MB and ends Friday, December 21 in Appleton, WI.

The much-anticipated tour plays the Aronoff Center’s Procter & Gamble Hall on Saturday, November 24 at 8:00 PM.  Tickets go on sale Friday, May 25 at 10:00AM atwww.CincinnatiArts.org, (513) 621-ARTS [2787], and the Aronoff Center Ticket Office.

A full list of tour dates and on sale details can be found at www.98degrees.com. Additionally, 98° VIP Packages are available through their website.

98° has not slowed down since Christmas. In between the band’s busy individual schedules, they’ve headed back into the studio with new music coming later this year. The band will appear on the 67th Miss USA Pageant on FOX on Monday, May 21. But performing for their fans is what 98° loves most, so they’ve added a few pre-Christmas dates including August 18th in Thackerville, OK at the WinStar World Casino and Resort (sold out) with their friends, The Backstreet Boys, and will be part of Disney World’s International Food and Wine Festival / Eat to the Beat concert series.

Last year’s Christmas tour was in support of their first full-length Christmas album in eighteen years, Let It Snow. The album received glowing reviews from both fans and critics alike. The album featured the group’s signature R&B-tinged, four-part harmonies and was a natural follow up to their 1999 multi-platinum selling This Christmas. In addition to their tour, they also performed on the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Disney’s Magic Holiday Celebration, Good Morning America, Today Show, Kelly & Ryan, and more.

In five short years — from 1997 to 2002 — 98° sold a staggering 10 million records, scored a chart-topping single, “Thank God I Found You,” with Mariah Carey and Joe, and collaborated with their collective idol, Stevie Wonder, on “True to Your Heart,” for the 1998 animated Disney film, Mulan. Their four-million-selling album, 98° and Rising (1998, Motown), spawned the top 5 favorites “Because of You,” “I Do,” and “The Hardest Thing,” while 2000’s Revelation (Universal Records), which sold two million copies, peaked at number 2 on the Billboard 200 and yielded a trio of hits, “Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche),” “My Everything” and “The Way You Want Me To.”
