UC College-Conservatory of Music Musical Theatre ’11 alum Mia Gentile is currently in rehearsals to join the Broadway cast of KINKY BOOTS in two weeks.

Outside of her work at CCM, Cincinnati audiences will remember Mia as Natalie in NEXT TO NORMAL and as Missy in both THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES and THE WINTER WONDERETTES, all at Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati.

From her Facebook page, “If you come to see it, I’ll be the ensemble factory worker with the awesome mullet. I’m also understudying Lauren.”

For a taste of her versatility, check out her Stanley Steemer Variations video below.

Congratulations Mia!

Sponsorship Drive Final Update

BTC_SanchoMany thanks to the individuals and organizations that donated to become 2014-2015 Season Sponsors for Behind the Curtain. Sponsors are listed here. The drive raised $2,463.

Due to the fact that they drive did not reach its goal, the timeline for the new site will have to be adjusted.

I had hoped to have the new site up and Phase I complete near the new year. Instead the project will have to be done in pieces, and I hope to have Phase I completed by the new season. The new layout is first on the agenda.

Thank you again for your generosity, and see you at the theater.

Broadway’s Next Hit Could Be Taylor & Oberacker’s BANDSTAND

PIP_AceWhile New Yorkers may call Robert Taylor and Richard Oberacker “unknowns,” those names are a bit more familiar to local theatre audiences.

Richard Oberacker is a Cincinnati native and a graduate of UC College-Conservatory of Music.

Back in 2006, Taylor and Oberacker had their original musical, ACE, premiere at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park. It went on to receive five Helen Hayes Nominations in D.C.

In 2009 they were back, this time at Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati (they still had the “of” back then) with DON’T MAKE ME PULL THIS SHOW OVER: DISPATCHES FROM THE FRONTLINES OF PARENTING. They had previewed a shorter version of the musical as an entry in the 2008 Cincinnati Fringe Festival.

Back to New York. A reading this week of their new musical, BANDSTAND has the NYC theater community abuzz. You can read the NY Post article here.

Wishing Robert and Richard continued success!
