Playhouse to Audition Children June 7 for 2014 A CHRISTMAS CAROL

CINCINNATI PLAYHOUSE IN THE PARK TO AUDITION CHILDREN JUNE 7
FOR 2014 PRODUCTION OF A CHRISTMAS CAROL

PIP(CINCINNATI) – The Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park will hold auditions on Saturday, June 7, for children interested in performing in the 2014 production of Charles Dickens’ A CHRISTMAS CAROL, presented by U.S. Bank. The show, an annual Tristate holiday tradition, celebrates its 24th year this season with performances running Nov. 26 through Dec. 28, 2014.

Nine area children will be cast to fill speaking and non-speaking parts in the production. Roles are available for boys and girls 8 to 13 years old. Additionally, the part of Tiny Tim requires a boy 6 to 8 years of age. Those cast in previous productions of A CHRISTMAS CAROL will need to audition again to be considered for this year’s show. To be eligible, children must not turn 14 before Dec. 28, 2014.

“Working with the children is what keeps me returning to this production year after year,” says Michael Evan Haney, who will direct A CHRISTMAS CAROL for his 22nd season. “It is a joy, year after year, to watch them gain confidence in rehearsal and achieve a wonderful fearlessness on the stage.”

Children should submit a resume of any experience to the Playhouse, along with a photograph (a good quality school or family photo is acceptable). The resume and photo must be submitted again even if they have been sent in the past. The resume must include exact birth date and height, as well as an email address and telephone number. At the audition, children will be asked to share a one-minute monologue, story or poem with an English accent.

Interested children must be available for all rehearsals, most of which are scheduled around school hours. Rehearsals for A CHRISTMAS CAROL begin in mid-November. Children must also be available for all performances of the show, which are scheduled Tuesdays through Sundays and include some weekday student and public matinees.

Photographs and resumes should be sent to the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, ATTN: AUDITIONS, c/o Michael Haney, P.O. Box 6537, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45206 or emailed to auditions@cincyplay.com. Email submissions are preferred. The deadline for consideration is June 1.

Those selected to audition will be contacted by telephone to schedule specific times. All auditions will be held at the Playhouse, located in Eden Park at the edge of Mt. Adams.

Adapted by Howard Dallin, A CHRISTMAS CAROL is a faithful retelling of Charles Dickens’ beloved tale of a miserly humbug’s redemption that is enjoyed each season by multiple generations of Cincinnatians. The heartwarming message and spectacular effects of A CHRISTMAS CAROL make the show one of the Playhouse’s most popular productions each season.

The Playhouse is supported, in part, by the generosity of the tens of thousands of individuals and businesses that give to ArtsWave.

The Ohio Arts Council helps fund the Playhouse with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans.

The Playhouse also receives funding from the Shubert Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.

CSC Announces New Arts Education Initiative PROJECT 38

Cincinnati Shakespeare Company Announces their new Innovative Arts Education Initiative, PROJECT 38

Cincinnati Shakespeare Company has unveiled their new arts education initiative!

CINCINNATI, April 24, 2014 – Cincinnati Shakespeare Company is proud to announce their new innovative arts education initiative titled PROJECT 38 which will launch next school year. Over the last 20 years, CSC has brought classical theatre and literature to life for over 200,000 students from 150 schools in more than 100 zip codes across three states. This close connection with students and educators has inspired them to take on this exciting new endeavor. This season, Cincinnati Shakespeare is also “completing the canon” by producing all 38 of Shakespeare’s plays. The 38 plays have served as the inspiration for the title of PROJECT 38.

On the evening of April 23rd, CSC unveiled this new initiative called PROJECT 38. In this program, CSC will collaborate with 38 different area schools. Each school will be given one of the 38 plays in Shakespeare’s canon. Then, over the course of the year, teaching artists from CSC will go out to each of the schools and work with the students and faculty on bringing that play to life in various ways. This could be through a traditional production, a monologue or scene, or a dance piece, or music piece, a mural, etc.- anything the students & school can conceive of and feel passionately about. It will culminate in the PROJECT 38 festival at the end of the school year which will become a multi-day celebration in which all the students will gather, and share what they’ve created with each other, their schools, family and friends and with the community at large.

To celebrate the launch of this project, each of the schools chosen for the inaugural year selected one student representative to appear in a group performance piece at CSC’s Revel & Feast gala on April 23, 2014. This performance featured lines and scenes from each of Shakespeare’s 38 plays. The audience reaction was overwhelming as these students brought to life the entirety of Shakespeare’s canon and truly embodied the spirit of what PROJECT 38 will become!

The list of the first 38 schools selected is below. This program will be offered to 38 schools each season at no additional cost to the school. For information about how to support or get involved with PROJECT 38, please contact Jeanna Vella, Director of Education and Communications at jeanna.vella@cincyshakes.com or 513.381.2273 ext. 3202, or visit www.cincyshakes.com.
