Audition: September 16 & 17, 2019 at 7pm

Auditioners are encouraged to arrive at the Dayton Playhouse in advance of the auditions to fill out the Audition Form. Theatre resumes are encouraged, but not required; auditioners need to be prepared to list all conflicts between the audition date and the final performance of the production.

The Dayton Playhouse is excited to announce auditions for an upcoming production of Aaron Sorkin’s TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD. PLEASE NOTE: This is the 2018 version (currently running on Broadway), and is a re-imagining of the original Harper Lee novel. Though based on the same source material as the earlier version of the play, this version is very different in tone and setting. It is, in fact, a memory play, and occurs in the minds of Scout, Jem, and Dill about 20 years after the Tom Robinson trial. These three characters serve as both the narrators and actors, moving in and out of the action as it unfolds, and performing either as adults or children, as needed. As such, there are no child performers in this production. In addition, most roles are slightly (if not largely) different from those in the original production, including some roles that are either expanded or condensed, and no role is the same when it comes to overall character and/or dialogue.

• Scout—30+ female, an attorney, who also plays herself as a child
• Jem—30+ male, her brother, who also plays himself as a child
• Dill—30+, male, their friend, who also plays himself as a child

• Bailiff/Prison Guard—21+ male
• Horace Gilmer—“young man,” prosecuting attorney
• Heck Tate—40+ male, sheriff
• Mayella Ewell—19 female, Tom’s accuser
• Bob Ewell—35+ male, Mayella’s father
• Calpurnia—40+ female, African American, housekeeper for the Finch family
• Atticus Finch—45+ male, defense attorney, Scot and Jem’s father
• Judge Taylor—50+ male, trial judge
• Mr. Cunningham—male, townsperson and client of Atticus
• Miss Stephanie—female, town gossip/Mrs. DuBose—elderly neighbor/Dill’s Mother—30+ female
• Link Deas—middle aged male, townsperson/Mob Member #1
• Dr. Reynolds—male, town physician/Mob Member #2
