FIDDLER ON THE ROOF is set in the little Russian village of Anatevka, where a poor dairyman, Tevye, lives with his wife and five daughters. Tevye is trying to teach his daughters to hold on to the traditions of this tight-knit Jewish community in the face of changing social ideas and the growing hostility toward the Jews in Czarist Russia.
