Call for Directors for 2023-2024 Season at The Footlighters, Inc.

FLI_logoThe Footlighters, Inc., is accepting submissions for directors for the 2023-2024 season. Interested directors must submit an application and a theatrical resume. Directors will be allowed to submit up to two productions for consideration. In a recent survey, our patrons have expressed that their favorite types of shows are large comedic musicals, followed by small comedic musicals and comedic plays. However, ALL submissions will be considered equally regardless of whether they are of the previously listed genres or not.

We are seeking directorial candidates who feel they can bring a fresh and inclusive perspective to the shows they’ve submitted, and we encourage directors from diverse backgrounds, whether you’ve directed for Footlighters before or not, to apply.

All submissions must be emailed to the Season/Director Committee Chair, Katie McCarthy, at footlighters.seasonchair@gmail.com or submitted via this Google form. The deadline to submit materials is Sunday, October 30, 2022. Interested directors will be contacted to schedule interviews for the week of November 14. Interviews will take place at the Stained Glass Theatre. For more information, visit our website.

We will produce a four-show season for 2023-2024, so we will be selecting four directors and four productions for our season. Should you have additional questions or need assistance, please email footlighters.seasonchair@gmail.com, and we will be happy to help.

Synopsis
Undine has it all – success, love, and a fabulous wardrobe. When her life unravels in one hilarious reversal after another, she is forced to return to a life she had long left behind. In this satirical comedy, two-time Pulitzer Prize-winner Lynn Nottage asks Undine – and all of us – whether you can really ever go home again.

Fabulation, or the Re-Education of Undine, is rated PG-13 and contains adult themes.

Roles

  • Undine – A high-powered executive at a PR firm who loses everything but gains a sense of perspective in the process; a self-made woman who endures with humor and honesty.
  • Grandma – Diabetic and a wheelchair user, Undine’s grandmother, has a warm demeanor but laments having lived a “perpetually gray life.”
  • Father – Undine’s father resents the way Undine left her family behind.
  • Hervé – Undine’s suave but dishonest husband.
  • Guy – Undine’s romantic interest, whom she meets when she accidentally ends up in rehab, Guy, is an optimist and an aspiring firefighter.
  • Stephie – Undine’s assistant at the PR firm.
  • Flow – Undine’s brother works as a security guard and writes free-flowing hip-hop rhymes that look at the struggles of black existence and are inspired by the Brer Rabbit fable.
  • Accountant – Undine’s financial advisor shares the news of her bankruptcy with her.
  • Mother – Undine’s mother works as a security guard and is more willing to welcome Undine back into the family.
  • Ensemble – Various additional characters weave in and out of the narrative.

Pippin is the story of one young man’s journey to be extraordinary. Heir to the Frankish throne, the young prince Pippin is in search of the secret to true happiness and fulfillment. He seeks it in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh, and the intrigues of political power (after disposing of his father, King Charlemagne the Great). In the end, though, Pippin finds that happiness lies not in extraordinary endeavors, but rather in the unextraordinary moments that happen every day. PIPPIN is rated PG-13 and contains adult themes, violence, and some sexual situations. This production uses strobe lighting effects and fog throughout the production.
