SOUVENIR runs July 5-15

SOUVENIR: A Fantasia on the Life of Florence Foster Jenkins
Presented by Brookville Community Theatre
July 5-15
Brookville

A two-character fantasia on the life of Florence Foster Jenkins, an unmarried society matron whose delusions of singing grandeur led her to Carnegie Hall, where she performed her off-pitch operatic trills to the delight of thousands in the 1940s with the help of her pianist Cosme McMoon. The play with music examines their rocky but ultimately affectionate relationship. While it is unknown whether the real-life Foster Jenkins knew that she was not a great soprano, the comedic but compassionate play is based around the premise that she remained ignorant for the majority of her career.

Directed by Saul Caplan

Cast: Renée Franck-Reed as Florence Foster Jenkins & Charles Larkowski as Cosmé McMoon

THE LAST OF THE BOYS
Presented by Brookville Community Theatre
June 23-July 3
Brookville

Steven Dietz’s intricate and moving drama, THE LAST OF THE BOYS, is about a relationship that ends, and a war that never does. The focus of the play is the friendship between Benand Jeeter, two Vietnam War Veterans, who for 30 years have remained friends, despite their differences.  It takes place the last summer of the 20th century in a godforsaken trailer park that has become a toxic wasteland, where Ben is the last holdout. Jeeter has brought his newest young girlfriend, Salyer, to meet Ben. When Salyer’s mother, Loraine, comes looking for her daughter, ghosts and memories of the  war come pouring out, as these four people mix booze with feelings that can never quite be resolved.
