Video Auditions Announced for HOME THEATRE at American Legacy Theatre

ALT_logoHome Theatre is a totally new approach to theatre never before seen in America and launching in the beginning of 2021. This approach will create 30 world premieres in 6 months.

Acting artists will meet 1:1 with community individuals and perform a 45-60 minute one-person show inspired by and cultivated from the 1:1 session. Acting artists will leverage the acquired techniques and process taught to them by American Legacy Theatre, and create alongside a director and up to five other artists working on their own production.

Need: American Legacy Theatre is seeking to hire a diverse unit of at least six (6) acting artists 3m, 3f of all ethnicities, races, and ages. The goal is that at least half of the 30 world premieres are based upon a person of color.

  • Create a 90-120 second piece inspired by the interview
  • Follow provided guidelines

Pay: $250/one-week production

Submissions Due: November 8, 2020 at 11:59pm

This show has six principal characters, six adult ensemble, and two male youths. A.L.T. is seeking to cast an understudy for each role in the show. If successful, the understudies will be guaranteed at least one or two performances.

Characters:

Benjamin (20s, male, tenor) – Benjamin comes from a two-parent home, plays baseball, and goes on to become a marine all while being afraid of talking to girls. After succumbing to drinking and pain killers, Benjamin eventually becomes addicted to heroin and struggles to find his way out.

Mara (20s, female, mezzo) – Mara is addiction personified as the girl next door. While someone the audience falls in love with, she later turns with a mean and vengeful streak.

Mother (40s +/-, female, mezzo) – Benjamin’s mother is a strong woman who sometimes is overshadowed by others, but ends up being a voice of reason and change.

Father (40s +/-, male, baritone) – Benjamin’s father is a loving but dominant personality that struggles with his own drinking problems and desire to see his son aspire to more than he ever did.

Kyle (20s, male, baritone/tenor) – Kyle is Benjamin’s cousin and best friend who is wildly charismatic, the life of the party and becomes a professional baseball player before succumbing to addiction of pain killers and heroin.

Becca (20s, female, soprano) – Becca is Benjamin’s high school crush and becomes the stable force for Benjamin later on in life during his recovery, having been sober herself a number of years. Becca is warm, bright, and has an underestimated strength.

Young Benjamin (10, male, alto/soprano) – Young Benjamin starts the journey of Benjamin before he grows up experiencing his very first sip of beer.

Young Kyle (10, male, alto/soprano) – Young Kyle proves that he has always been the life of the party when he sneaks his father’s beer and seeks to revel in his glory with his cousin Benjamin.

Male Ensemble (x3) – This includes a varying degree of voice types. There is a featured baritone track that will need to have a very good Elvis Presley impression.

Female Ensemble (x3) – This includes a varying degree of voice types.

American Legacy Theatre Empowers Youth to #BreaktheWalls

ALT_All in Your Head logo(Cincinnati, OH — July 15, 2019) American Legacy Theatre is theatre for social change. While breaking and reimagining many conventions, A.L.T. provides professional theatre that is accessible – affordable, relevant and exciting to all people, all voices.

#YourNationalTheatre doubles down its efforts August 2-4, 2019 when its 2nd Annual Junior Board produces the original play written, designed, and acted by its members – high school students of the tristate. ALL IN YOUR HEAD is their production exploring the justice system. After witnessing the brutal assault of Molly Thomas, Calum Fischer is dubbed the leading suspect in her case. As his investigation continues, he must question not only what he knows about that night, but what he knows about his own mind.

When asked who this piece was meant for, Producing Artistic Director Matthew David Gellin said, “everyone. A.L.T. is Theatre for All. By all we mean you.” Gellin stated that this program empowers the often overlooked voices of youth to share their wisdom with the larger community, thus breaking the walls of traditional perception.

In order for this program to remain available and free for our youth, it needs the support of the community. This year’s program is aided, in part, by ArtsWave and Greater Cincinnati Foundation.
