American Legacy Theatre is holding in-person auditions for two new works on Tuesday, October 6th from 4-7pm at the Pleasant Ridge Library’s basement stage (6233 Montgomery Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45213).

Gindependence Day by Terry Tocantins
A comedy musical revue in development. Think The Producers meets Assassins.
- Performances: November 7 & 8 @ 2pm
- Rehearsals: November 2-6 @ 6-9pm
Compensation: Stipend of $225
Gindependence Day Character List
- Doug* – Over Forty. Male. – Has a kid, had a wife. That all could go either way at the moment. Sober 180 days. Worked remotely for a medical insurance company in customer service. That job is neeeever coming back. Hypervigilant.
- CJ* – Thirty. Female. – Worked on a pot farm in Norcal where she still has warrants. Autodidact. Clean 90 days. Their relationship to drugs and alcohol was their great romance and this has been a tough breakup.
- Bailey* – Mid-Twenties. Male. – People pleasing and high functioning, Bailey was an intermittently binging crystal meth user who somehow kept their job at a veterinary clinic. When it’s not the ‘tweak-end’ they self-medicate with alcohol. They are no longer the manager of the clinic and now expresses dogs’ anal glands part time.
- Remmy – Thirties. Female. – Assistant Theatre Manager. This is her off night and she is covering for the intern. She is the adult child of an alcoholic and an enabler. When not the offstage voice of authority, she is also: Brian Ryan. 50 year old Bostonian molly dealer with 17 years of sobriety.
*We are looking for one of these characters to play piano. If you are auditioning for Doug, CJ, or Bailey and play piano, we would love for you to accompany yourself!
Clos(in)g by Megan Benjamin Bennett
World Premiere production of a dramatic play. Think August Wilson meets A Raisin in the Sun.
- Performances: January 15 – 31 (Fridays & Saturdays @ 7:30pm; Sundays @ 2pm)
- Rehearsals: December 6 – 20 and January 3 – 14 (weekday evenings, some weekends) [NO REHEARSAL December 21 – January 2]
Compensation: $150 per week

- Carter – Any race, Male, 59 – Building superintendent; married to Brandy, middle of three brothers, suffered a back injury in college playing football
- Theodore (Teddy) – African American, Male, 38 – Doctor’s office administrator by day, drag queen by night; comes from a Southern Christian family full of strong women; proud gay man; sensitive to the needs of others
- Lucas – Caucasian, Male, 57 – Older gay man; was in the military during don’t ask, don’t tell; moved on to be a successful financial advisor; stoic figure; married to Teddy
- Marina – Latina, Female, 45 – Hard working; proud; loves being a mother to Isabelle; wants a better life but is losing hope
What to prepare & bring to your audition:
- 1 monologue (up to 90 seconds)
- Either 1 song (up to 32 bars) OR a 2nd monologue
- Headshot & resume
Notes:
- Those interested in Gindependence Day should include a song in their audition
- One character in Gindependence Day plays piano. If you are able to accompany yourself on piano, please do!
- Music in Gindependence Day is uptempo and comedic – songs of this genre are most appropriate
- Please note that no parts listed here have been pre-cast – we encourage submissions for all listed roles!
