Premiere ‘Summer Classics Season’ Announced for Warsaw Federal Incline Theater
Cincinnati’s Newest Performing Venue Scheduled to Open June 3, 2015
When the chorus sings the first line of THE PRODUCERS – “Opening night, it’s opening night!” – on June 3, 2015 at the Warsaw Federal Incline Theater, it will be true and historic on multiple levels.
Cincinnati Landmark Productions announced today the grand opening date and the premiere Summer Classics Season at the region’s newest performing arts venue.
The 2015 Summer Classics Season, presented by TriHealth, includes:
- THE PRODUCERS, June 3-21
- 1776, July 8-26
- 9 to 5, August 12-30
“I look forward to adding this sensational new venue to the Cincinnati performing arts landscape,” said Tim Perrino, executive artistic director of Cincinnati Landmark Productions. “This line up is the perfect summer-stock slate of great musicals, sure to bring thousands of people to this inaugural season and to the exciting Incline District. More than ever, this really is a neighborhood on the rise.”
The Warsaw Federal Incline Theater will be a brand new, purpose-built, 220-seat performing arts center and parking garage in the Incline District in East Price Hill. Located at the corner of Matson Place and West 8th Street, the $6 million project is slated to break ground in the coming weeks.
Subscriptions for the premiere Summer Classics Season – only $63 – go on sale to the public on November 3, 2014. Two special pre-sale opportunities will be available for 2014 Summer Classic Season subscribers and 2014-15 Covedale Center subscribers. Information for pre-sales will be mailed directly to those subscribers in advance of the on-sale date.
The Warsaw Federal Incline Theater will be programmed year-round by Cincinnati Landmark Productions, culminating in over 120 show nights. In addition to the Summer Classics Season, which will expand to four productions in future years, the venue will host a four-show Main Stage subscription season (September to May) designed to complement the Main Stage season at the Covedale Center, as well as one-night concerts, comedy events and cabarets. Information on those seasons will be announced in the coming months.
“We want to particularly thank TriHealth for its Summer Classic Season support,” Perrino said. “Having such an important community partner in the first season will help make the Warsaw Federal Incline Theater a success right out of the gate.”
Funding for the new theater/garage was provided by: New Market Tax Credit allocations from Cincinnati Development Fund and PNC, an economic development grant from the City of Cincinnati, capital funding from the State of Ohio, and private support from Warsaw Federal, Doug Ridenour, KB Partners LLC, The Greater Cincinnati Foundation, the John A. Schroth Family Charitable Trust, Diane and Tom Brunst, the Otto M. Budig Family Foundation and many others.
Cincinnati Landmark Productions has been serving the West Side for over 30 years – first through its Cincinnati Young People’s Theatre program and then through its ownership and management of the Covedale Center for the Performing Arts in West Price Hill. Since opening in 2002, the arts center quadrupled its subscribership. Attendance ballooned from 13,990 in the 2002-03 season to over 37,000 (representing 336 zip codes) in the 2013-14 season.
Donor programs and sponsorships for the new venue are still available. For more information about the Warsaw Federal Incline Theater, call (513) 241-6550.

New Edgecliff Theatre: New Season, New Digs
CINCINNATI, OH – August 25, 2014 – After a two year search for a new home, New Edgecliff Theatre is moving to Northside for their 2014-15 Season: The Rest of the Story. The season will open with Douglas Carter Beane’s The Little Dog Laughed performed at The Hoffner Lodge (4120 Hamilton Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45223) and will continue with The 12 Dates of Christmas by Ginna Hoben and Race by David Mamet at their new home, the old St Patrick Church at 1662 Blue Rock St. “We’re very excited to be a part of what promises to be a vital new arts venue in the Northside community,” says Producing Artistic Director Jim Stump. “Plans for the facility we are moving into include a brew pub, music lounge and eventually a restaurant in the former rectory building.”
THE HOFFNER LODGE: Site of several theatrical productions, the Hoffner Lodge is the perfect entree to the Northside arts scene. According to Stump, “Our new venue still has some construction to be done and we wanted to perform our entire season in our new community home. The historic feel of the Hoffner Lodge is a great fit for New Edgecliff.”
The Hoffner Lodge is in the heart of the business and entertainment district of Northside, and is one of the many historic treasures designed by Cincinnati architect, Samuel Hannaford. More information on the Hoffner Lodge can be found at www.hoffnerlodge.com
NEW VENUE: Grayscale Cincinnati has been working since the summer of 2012 to create a multi-use performing arts facility and craft brewery in Cincinnati. Their efforts led them to Northside and redeveloping the former St. Patrick’s Church (1662 Blue Rock St, Cincinnati OH 45223) into a new music venue, creative live theater, bar/lobby, and craft brewery.
One of the key elements of this project is the historic rehabilitation of a former center of community life and its architecture to its return as a new, vibrant cultural center for the community. They are honored to be part of the stewardship of such a fantastic piece of history. The fact that they’re adding new cultural and entertainment facilities in this location is also a primary factor. With a heavy focus on enhancing the urbanism of the city and by helping to reestablish central neighborhoods in Cincinnati, such as Northside, and creating density in appropriate locations, the hope is to continue to build the entire region in a natural and sustainable manner. The goal is to make Northside and Cincinnati a destination for culture and brewing tourism. More information on Grayscale can be found at http://www.grayscalecincinnati.com
THE 2014-15 SEASON: THE REST OF THE STORY
Last season featured stories that led characters in directions they did not expect. This season features storylines that defy the expectations of the audience – endings that not only surprise, but entice the audience to rethink their biases.
September 25–October 11, 2014 The Little Dog Laughed by Douglas Carter Beane, directed by Lindsey Mercer: Can modern love survive in the face of our tabloid driven age? Where big stars jump around like heartsick schoolboys, audiences don’t care about true love. What we really love is all that dish! The players here include a hard-driving Hollywood agent, her budding screen idol client who could hit big if it weren’t for one teensy-weensy problem – she can’t seem to keep him in the closet or away from the cute rent boy who’s caught his eye and the rent boy’s girlfriend (wait, the rent boy has a girlfriend?). Will there be a happy ending as the final credits roll?
December 4-20, 2014 The 12 Dates of Christmas by Ginna Hoben, directed by Jim Stump: After seeing her fiancé kiss another woman at the televised Thanksgiving Day Parade, Mary’s life falls apart – just in time for the holidays. Over the next year, she stumbles back into the dating world, where “romance” ranges from weird and creepy to absurd and comical. It seems nothing can help Mary’s growing cynicism, until the charm and innocence of a five-year-old boy unexpectedly brings a new outlook on life and love. This heartwarming one-woman play offers a hilarious and modern alternative to the old standards of the holiday season.
April 9-25, 2015 Race by David Mamet, directed by Daryl Harris: Multiple award-winning playwright/director David Mamet tackles America’s most controversial topic in this provocative new tale of sex, guilt and bold accusations. Two lawyers, one black and one white, find themselves defending a wealthy white executive charged with raping a black woman. When a new legal assistant gets involved in the case, the opinions that boil beneath explode to the surface. When the spotlight is turned on what we think but can’t say, dangerous truths are revealed, and no punches are spared. Select performances will feature a talk back/discussion session about the show.

L’INCORONAZIONE DI POPPEA (THE CORONATION OF POPPEA)
Music by Claudio Monteverdi
Libretto by Francesco Busenello
English Translation by Geoffrey Dunn
Brett Scott, conductor
Emma Griffin, director Love, power, morality, corruption… Monteverdi’s final masterpiece, The Coronation of Poppea, is often described as his greatest achievement, combining mythic and very human themes and featuring some of his most glorious music. One of the first operas to use historical events and people, it tells the story of Nero’s infatuation with the young and beautiful Poppea as she tries to make him divorce his wife Ottavia and take her as his new queen and empress of Rome. The Coronation of Poppea is a rich, complex and thoroughly modern work; a world populated by ruthless and all-too-human characters where lust and ambition ultimately triumph over virtue.

MUSICALS REDUX: 110 IN THE SHADE
Lyrics by Tom Jones
Music by Harvey Schmidt
Book by N. Richard Nash
Vince DeGeorge, director and choreographer
Steve Goers, music director
CCM’s award-winning Musicals Redux series returns with a gem from the storehouse of forgotten American musicals. Based upon the play The Rainmaker by N. Richard Nash, 110 in the Shade tells the tale of Lizzie Curry, a forthright “old maid” living on a ranch with her father and brothers in the American southwest. When a charismatic conman posing as a rainmaker promises to bring relief to the drought-stricken area, he awakens new feelings of love and self-discovery in the heart of the lonely woman. With a lush score by the composers of The Fantasticks, 110 in the Shade is a lovely reminder of the “Golden Age” of American Musical Theatre.

YOU’RE WELCOME (A CYCLE OF BAD PLAYS)
Written by Hannah Bos and Paul Thureen
Developed by Oliver Butler
Made by the Debate Society
Brant Russell, director
You’re Welcome is a collection of five small plays about creation and failure; a unified theatrical myth that tells the story of an invented band of performers and their catastrophic attempts at connection. The plays are about love, death, desire, tragedy, comedy, drunk driving, sexiness, beauty, loss, the battle between good and evil, a baby born wearing a hat. And theater. They’re about theater. Kind of the last word on theater. This is You’re Welcome—five plays that pretty much nail it. You’re welcome!
