New Edgecliff Announces 2015-2016 Season: The Eye of the Beholder

NETAt the opening night of our current production, Race by David Mamet, New Edgecliff Theatre announced their 2015-16 Season: The Eye of the Beholder. Included in the season are Frankie and Johnny in the Clare de Lune by Terrence McNally, the return of The Santaland Diaries (based on the writings of humorist David Sedaris) and Neil LaBute’s The Shape of Things. In addition to the regular season, NET will again present their annual radio-style performance fundraiser, Sweet Suspense. This year’s Sweet Suspense will present Strangers on a Train directed by NET Artistic Associate Bob Allen.

“These are plays that challenge the way the characters view their lives and the circumstances they find themselves in,” says Producing Artistic Director Jim Stump. “They are stories of how much can change when you change how you look at things.” Impossible relationships, how we see ourselves versus how others see us and even holiday expectations explore perceptions that alter with time.

NET brings back two popular directors this season. Jared Doren, who helmed their critically acclaimed production of Bus Stop, returns to direct Frankie and Johnny in the Clare de Lune. Doren has directed for a number of Cincinnati theatres including the Carnegie, Falcon Theatre and, of course, New Edgecliff Theatre. Former NET Artistic Director Elizabeth Harris returns to direct The Shape of Things. Harris’ direction of NET’s production of The Night of the Iguana also garnered critical praise.

The Shape of Things by Neil LaBute

Before long, it veers into the kind of dangerous, seductive territory that LaBute does best, as Adam, under Evelyn’s steady influence, goes to unimaginable lengths to improve his appearance and character. How far would you go for love? Only in the final and shocking exhibition, which challenges our most deeply entrenched ideas about art and love, does Evelyn reveal her true intentions.

Cincinnati Shakespeare’s Game of Thrones Continues with HENRY V

Brian Isaac Phillips directs the next installment in CSC’s 5 year, 8 play history cycle

Justin McCombs as Herny V.

Justin McCombs as Herny V.

CINCINNATI, April 13, 2015— Cincinnati Shakespeare Company continues its season and multi-year history cycle with “Henry V” by William Shakespeare. This production is directed by CSC Producing Artistic Director, Brian Isaac Phillips. This production features Cincinnati Shakespeare’s Resident Ensemble members including Justin McCombs as he returns to the stage to continue the journey of Henry V that he started as Prince Hal last season. The History Cycle sponsor is Osborn, Rohs, Williams & Donohoe, LLC. Additionally, Cincinnati Shakespeare Company’s production of “Henry V” is part of Shakespeare in American Communities, a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.

The prodigal Prince Hal has cast off the unruly ways and unruly companions of his youth, and has ascended to the throne of England. But the civil wars that allowed his father, Henry IV, to ascend to the throne, have taken their toll. The country is bankrupt, and civil unrest bubbles just under the surface, threatening to erupt again. In order to refill the royal coffers and unify the country against a common enemy, the young King Henry sets his sights on the conquest of France. But his fervent army of nobles and commoners soon find themselves in hostile territory, surrounded and woefully outnumbered. At the center of Shakespeare’s history cycle, and featuring some of the most powerful oratory in the canon, “Henry V” tells the unforgettable tale of those few, those happy few, that band of brothers who stood up against overwhelming odds to fight for God, King and Country.

Cincinnati Shakespeare Company’s production of “Henry V” is part of Shakespeare in American Communities, a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest. Cincinnati Shakespeare Company is one of 40 professional theater companies selected to participate in bringing the finest productions of Shakespeare to middle- and high-school students in communities across the United States. This is the twelfth year of this national program, the largest tour of Shakespeare in American history. This additional funding has allowed Cincinnati Shakespeare Company to welcome 100s more students at no or low cost to experience “Henry V” during the school day or at evening performances alongside of extra educational activities made available by CSC.

Cincinnati Shakespeare Company is only the 2nd theater company in the United States to present Shakespeare’s 8 play history cycle in chronological order. The 2013 production of “Richard II” began this multi-season history cycle at Cincinnati Shakespeare and was followed by 2014’s “Henry IV: Part 1 & 2”. Then, following this production of “Henry V” is next season’s recently announced “Henry VI, Pt. 1”. The cycle will conclude with “Richard III”.

Performances of “Henry V” are scheduled from May 8-30, 2015 on Thursday, Friday & Saturday evenings at 7:30pm and Sundays at 2pm with an additional Saturday matinee on May 30. Preview performances are on Wednesday May 6 and Thursday May 7 at 7:30pm and tickets are $21. The theater is located at 719 Race Street, downtown Cincinnati, two blocks west of the Aronoff Center. Single ticket prices range from $22-$32 on Thursdays and Sundays and from $26-$36 on Fridays and Saturdays. This show is a part of the 2014-2015 subscription season. There is a free pre-show presentation on Thursdays about this production that begins at 7pm (preview excluded). If available, $14 student rush tickets may be purchased 30 minutes before a show with a valid student ID. Visa, Discover, MasterCard, and American Express are accepted. Ticketing fees may apply. Discounts are available for students, seniors and groups as well as AAA members. The Carnegie Theatre Series Promises Entertaining 2015-2016 Season Comprised of Old and New Classics

THE CARNEGIE’S THEATRE SERIES PROMISES ENTERTAINING
2015-16 SEASON COMPRISED OF OLD AND NEW CLASSICS

COVINGTON, KY- The last year has heralded change for The Carnegie with the installation of new Theatre Director, Maggie Perrino, but the great shows, phenomenal talent, and welcoming atmosphere of The Carnegie Theatre Series remain the same. Taking a cue from last season’s blockbuster production of WEST SIDE STORY, the highest grossing show in The Carnegie’s history, this season will be chock full of hits that offer something for everyone.

The Carnegie is excited to announce its 2015-16 Theatre Series, inviting you to the historic Otto M. Budig Theatre in August for a little COMPANY. In November, The Carnegie takes on an air of mystery as it presents the comedy-thriller SLEUTH, a delightful game of cat-and-mouse that will keep audiences guessing right up until the end. A light, but creative staging of THE WIZARD OF OZ takes you away from the January winter blahs with a wonderful flight of fancy and THE LAST FIVE YEARS closes the season in April with spellbinding songs that will tug at your heartstrings.

We’re off to see THE WIZARD OF OZ at The Carnegie! Add a little fantasy and adventure to those gray January days with a trip to the Emerald City to see Dorothy, Toto and the rest of the colorful residents of Oz. Imaginatively reproduced for The Carnegie stage, and impeccably accompanied by The Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, this classic tale is sure to delight fans both old and young.

Based on the hit MGM film, THE WIZARD OF OZ brings out the child in all of us with songs like “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” and “We’re Off to See the Wizard.” THE WIZARD OF OZ will be a lightly staged production reminiscent of our sold-out staging of THE SOUND OF MUSIC presented in 2014.

What does “lightly staged” mean? In a lightly staged production, music and storytelling take priority over the more physical aspects of the show. Audiences will see musicians onstage, beautiful costumes, evocative lighting, and creative settings. They will not see scripts in-hand, a multitude of props, or extensive scenic/costume changes.

Ten Performances:

Annie Baker’s CIRCLE MIRROR TRANSFORMATION Brings Playhouse Season to a Close, May 9-June 7, 2015

ANNIE BAKER’S CIRCLE MIRROR TRANSFORMATION BRINGS CINCINNATI PLAYHOUSE IN THE PARK’S 2014-15 SEASON TO A CLOSE, MAY 9 – JUNE 7, 2015

PIP_Circle Mirror Transformation logo(CINCINNATI) – Annie Baker’s charmingly comic off-Broadway hit CIRCLE MIRROR TRANSFORMATION wraps up the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park’s 2014-15 season May 9 through June 7 in the Playhouse’s Thompson Shelterhouse Theatre. When a random group of small-town strangers come together for a six-week community center acting class, real-life drama results. While Baker’s quirky characters are definitely not Broadway bound, they are transformed in surprising and unexpected ways over the course of the class.

“I believe the characters in CIRCLE MIRROR TRANSFORMATION are all people we as humans can relate to — they all share this intense experience together that allows them to make progress in their personal lives and they do so with an incredible sense of humor and grace,” says director Wendy C. Goldberg, who previously directed Leveling Up, Doubt and Durango at the Playhouse. “I believe everyone can identify with the loss, love and personal growth in the play whether they have been in a class like this or not.”

CIRCLE MIRROR TRANSFORMATION received its world premiere off-Broadway at Playwrights Horizons in 2009. It was awarded the 2010 Obie Award for Best New American Play, which was shared with Baker’s play The Aliens. Also nominated for a Drama Desk Award, CIRCLE MIRROR TRANSFORMATION was named one of the top 10 plays of 2009 by The New York Times, Time Out New York and The New Yorker. Baker’s most recent play, The Flick, won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2014.

“As a person who has experienced these sorts of acting classes, the idea of gathering a group of talented actors, all of whom have had even more experience with this sort of class than me, is really exciting,” Goldberg adds. “This is a gifted group of people, actors from all regions of the country I have worked with on other productions.”

The CIRCLE MIRROR TRANSFORMATION cast features Charlotte Booker as Marty, Sam Gregory (Arms and the Man) as Schultz, Mattie Hawkinson as Theresa, Ronete Levenson as Lauren and Andrew May as James. The creative team, in addition to Goldberg, includes set designer Kevin Depinet, costume designer Gordon DeVinney, lighting designer Josh Epstein and sound designer/composer Joshua Horvath. Andrea L. Shell is the stage manager.

CIRCLE MIRROR TRANSFORMATION is sponsored by Bartlett & Co.

Ticket prices for CIRCLE MIRROR TRANSFORMATION start at $30. Prices are subject to change, and patrons are encouraged to buy early for the best seats at the best prices. The show is appropriate for adult and older teenage audiences.
