CTC_The Odd Couple logoTHE ODD COUPLE
Commonwealth Theatre Company
July 6-22
Stauss Theatre [Highland Heights]

Directed by Mike King

Cast includes: Ken Jones as Felix Unger & George Alexander as Oscar Madison

When Felix moves in with recently divorced Oscar after his own marriage ends, it quickly becomes apparent that the roommates are complete opposites in their habits and lifestyles. Oscar is a sports writer who enjoys junk food and takes a certain pride in his sloppiness. Felix is a neat-freak photographer who cooks gourmet meals and is obsessed with removing each and every bit of dirt and disorder from Oscar’s apartment. Hilarity ensues as the two drive each other crazy – will their friendship survive in spite of their differences? Buffet dinner is served 90 minutes prior to curtain in Corbett Lobby. CFF18: My Fringe Schedule: Day 3

CFF18_The Mountains Did Quake logoFirst up tonight is Animal Engine’s THE MOUNTAINS DID QUAKE, THE HILLSIDE DID TREMBLE. This husband and wife team from Minneapolis, Minnesota have a special place in my Fringy-heart and their 2013 show “Petunia and Chicken” is still one of my all time favorite.

In an authoritarian society where individuality is oppressed in favor of obedience to an all-powerful dictator, the ancient epic of Gilgamesh is told as an act of underground rebellion. From the award-winning creators of “Petunia and Chicken” and “Darlings.”

CFF18_Walt Fit logoI follow that up with WALT FIT, a new offering from returning solo artist Jimmy Grzelak, hailing from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Walt Fit is a self-care-healthcare exercise system for everybody. In 1858, famously lofty poet Walt Whitman released an inspirational self-help health-and-beauty book. It was soon after lost to time. Until now. Reanimate this zombie path to total wellness– attend this seated transformational dance party led by Jimmy Grzelak, “winningly offbeat imagination” (Washington Post) and 2017 Citybeat Critic’s Pick.

I’m finishing off Friday with ExTrashVaganza! from personal and Fringe favorite Theatre Mobile.

“You threw it away. Now pick it up and make something of yourself.

Paul Strickland (“Balls of Yarns” – Critics’ Pick of the Fringe Winner 2017) and Erika Kate MacDonald (“Ice Candle” – Critics’ Pick of the Fringe Winner 2016) team up in this STRANGE-SATIONAL PUPPET MUSICAL COMEDY DELIGHT for adults!

Come help Erika and Paul make a beautiful future out of the discarded past.”

CAST_O Beautiful logoO BEAUTIFUL
Commonwealth Artists Student Theatre
June 29-July 8
The Carnegie [Covington]

Directed by Michael Sherman

O BEAUTIFUL is written by world-renowned and local playwright, Theresa Rebeck. Rebeck pens a theatrically inventive mashup of contemporary American life and the history that got us to this politically polarized age. O Beautiful is a fiercely funny story that explores the lives of high school students, teachers, and their families as they cope in a world of real personal problems and extremist ideological rhetoric that gets so heated that Jesus, Saint Paul, Joan of Arc, John Adams, Patrick Henry, and Benjamin Franklin, among others, show up to weigh in and mix it up. Alternately sweet and fiery, and as topical as tonight’s newscast, O Beautiful lands the complex realities of our culture squarely on the stage deck in an electrifying blend of ancient characters, founding fathers, and your neighborhood high school.
