Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park
Nov. 3-Dec. 23
Shelterhouse Theatre [Eden Park]

Directed by KJ Sanchez

Celebrate Cincinnati’s rich music history in this world premiere musical about King Records. Based on interviews, the story traces the groundbreaking rise of music pioneer Syd Nathan and the artists he produced, the music he created and the enemies he made along the way. The show shares behind-the-scenes tales of King Records hits including “The Twist,” “Blues Stay Away From Me,” “Fever” and “Need Your Love So Bad.” CINCINNATI KING shines a spotlight on this revolutionary music label and its Queen City roots. Cincinnati King is suitable for adults and teenage audiences. This musical docudrama celebrates the legendary record label’s music and touches on the lives of its artists, whose complicated behind-the-scenes tales feature some mild adult language and mature themes.

Nov. 2-18
[Walton Creek]

Directed by Laura Berkemeier

Cast: Pat Kramer as Jake, Jackie Miesle as Molly, Elizabeth L. Taylor as Lois, Natasha Boeckmann as Loretta & Mark Metzner as Dyson

Jake owns the bowling alley in a small Midwestern town. He is sitting on a hilltop where two of his three wives are buried. Lois was zapped by lightning while carrying a bowling trophy in a thunderstorm and Loretta was killed by a ball return machine. In his younger days, he was a promising concert musician but a foul tip baseball broke his fingers which subsequently healed into a perfect bowler’s grip. Jake replays the key frames of his life and is visited by his daughter Molly who has become adept at talking women into marrying her father for love and free lane time. But who is that nattily dressed man with dark glasses and a revolver lurking nearby?
