Each episode is 15 minutes MAX – and even then we recommend aiming for 12-13 minutes. Leave the audience wanting more!

Magnolia Theatre Company, Dayton’s feminist theatre company, announces auditions for their Spring Production in the 2024-2025 Season: JULIUS CAESAR by William Shakespeare, adapted by Caitlin McWethy.
Auditions will be held at the PNC Arts Annex, 46 W 2nd St, Dayton, OH 45402 on Saturday, February 1, 2025 from 1-4 pm and Monday, February 3, 2025 from 6-9 pm.
Each audition will include reading from the adaptation of the text. Please sign up for auditions via Google form. The sides will be added to the form no later than Jan. 3, 2025. If you sign up to audition before this time, you will receive an email link to the sides when they are posted. Video submissions will be accepted, and must be received by Feb 2, 2025 at midnight.
Callbacks will be held as needed.
Personnel: Caitlin McWethy (playwright and director of JULIUS CAESAR) and Gina Handy Minyard (Founding Artistic Director.)
Rehearsal Start Date: March 9, 2025
Rehearsal Frequency: 4-5 days a week, staggered call- 2 consecutive days off a week (weekdays will be held in the evenings, while weekend rehearsals will be late mornings, to mid-afternoon.)
Tech/Dress: April 6-9, 2025
Performance Dates: April 10- 13, 2025
Location: Rehearsals will be held in the Metropolitan Arts Center studios or the PNC Arts Annex, performance location is TBA.
Content Disclosure: In preparation for the content of the play, the performers will work with a fight choreographer and intimacy coordinator. (depictions of suicide, violence, war, loud sound effects, blood)
This adapted version has 8 available roles for female and non-binary performers. 2 AEA contracts (Special Appearance- Tier 2) will be available. All other roles will be cast non-union, paid. Stipend amounts available in the breakdown.

In this parallel retelling of Hamlet from Ophelia and Gertrude’s perspectives, the focus shifts to their emotional journey amidst the chaos of the Danish court. Ophelia’s narrative begins with the blossoming of a secret romance with Hamlet, filled with promise and youthful passion. As the court’s intrigue deepens, Ophelia and Gertrude find themselves ensnared in a web of political machinations and familial expectations, struggling to maintain power and agency. Will their ending be a confirmation of Shakespeare’s original or a liberation from it? Find out in the World Premiere of Lauren Gunderson’s A Room in the Castle.

Set in a shabby New York City neighborhood on Avenue Q, the musical follows the journey of Princeton, a recent college graduate, who moves into the area. As he settles into his new apartment, he discovers that the neighborhood is far from ordinary. The residents, both human and puppet characters, face the challenges of adulthood, including finding jobs, navigating relationships, and searching for the meaning and purpose of life. Avenue Q is often praised for its bold and innovative storytelling, as well as its ability to connect with audiences through its relatable themes and catchy musical numbers. While it may be unconventional in its use of puppets and its adult-oriented content, the show has gained a dedicated following and has become a memorable and celebrated part of contemporary musical theater. Rated R.

It’s 1965, and the death penalty has just been abolished in the United Kingdom. Naturally all of Oldham, northern England, wants to know what Harry, the second-best hangman in the country, has to say about it. As the news breaks, Harry’s pub is overrun with locals and reporters looking for a quote, until a visitor arrives with a darker and more mysterious agenda.
