When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that grows a tremendous peach, rolls into the ocean and launches a journey of enormous proportions. James befriends a collection of singing insects that ride the giant piece of fruit across the ocean, facing hunger, sharks and plenty of disagreements along the way.

Auditions Announced for MARIAN and RENT at Commonwealth Artists Student Theatre

Auditions Time for MARIAN, OR THE TRUE TALE OF ROBIN HOOD (June 28-July 7) and RENT (July 12-21)

For RENT

  • 32 measure excerpt from a Broadway show or the genre of music like the show that showcases your vocal talents

    • An accompanist and iPod/phone connection will be provided. If you intend on using the accompanist, please provide a clearly marked score that is either hole-punched or placed in a three-ring binder.  A cappella singing is strongly discouraged.​

  • A memorized 45 second to 1 minute serious or serio-comedic monologue from a play.

  • Review and learn the dance from the video (video available here soon).

    • ***Please remember that the dance audition is an assessment of your dance ability, comprehension, acting while dancing, and most of all, your willingness to have fun.​

      • There will be a voluntary dance workshop to brush up on the video for anyone interested  for 30 minutes prior to auditions starting on both days of auditions.​

For Designer positions, if possible, please bring photos or sketches from a design portfolio from any recent work.  If you do not have any photos, sketches or design portfolio, you are not disqualified from the possibility and opportunity of being a designer.  Also, please familiarize yourself with the material for the season so that you can best answer show specific questions or ideas.​

For all other technical positions, please come prepared to answer questions about the shows, your previous work, and what you might like to learn or achieve throughout the process.​

Auditions Announced for MATILDA the Musical at Royal Theatre Company

RTC_logoThe ROYAL Theatre Company is excited to announce that we will hold auditions on February 27th & February 28th for MATILDA the Musical.

Based on the classic book by Roald Dahl, Matilda is the story of a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence, and psychokinetic powers. She’s unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly loveable Miss Honey. Over the course of her first term at school, Matilda and Miss Honey have a profound effect on each other’s lives, as Miss Honey begins not only to recognize but appreciate Matilda’s extraordinary personality. Matilda’s school life isn’t completely smooth sailing, however – the school’s mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don’t abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils’ saving grace!

Audition Requirements:

  • You must be at least 6 years old to audition. This show has adult roles and adults are welcome to sign up to audition. If you have questions, contact production@royaltheatrecompany.com
  • You must complete the online audition form and submit your headshot (does not need to be a professional photo) with your online audition form. No walk-ins will be accepted.
  • You will be asked to perform one musical theatre song of your choice – 45 seconds in length. Please bring a device (phone, ipad, etc.) that is queued up to play your music at your audition. No acapella auditions please.
  • You will perform a monologue of your own choosing that can be up to 45 seconds. Please use a published monologue and do not perform more than one character.

Playhouse Summer Camps & Performance Academies Now on Sale

CINCINNATI — Enrollment is now open for Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park’s summer camps, eight weeks of theatrical fun and creativity this summer, including more performance options than previous years. Students can choose from new programs and beloved camper favorites, with themes running from “Mean Girls JR.” to “Encanto” to zombies to urban legends.

Camps will be held at the Playhouse in Mt. Adams, the Mason Community Center and at a location near Erlanger, KY (to be announced soon). Camps are open to incoming 1st- through 12th-graders, including camps designed specifically for older campers. Programs also include an accessibility Launch Pad program for children with developmental disabilities, sensory challenges and neurodivergences (details below). No experience or audition is required for any camp.

“Our mission is to encourage creativity through awesome stories in an inclusive, artistic environment,” said Playhouse Education Director Ariana Moses. “We invite students to unleash their imagination, get moving, make new connections and become part of a community—all while having a blast!”

Through the course of each session, campers work together to tell stories while learning both theatre skills and life skills. In addition to studying musical theatre, stage combat, acting, writing and more, campers will discover more about their individuality as they make connections with audiences, with each other and with themselves.

One-Week Camps teach the fundamentals of creating theatre. Each week has a different theme that focuses on special skills — like stage combat or singing and dancing or writing — in addition to rehearsal and performance. Campers will share what they have learned with family and friends at the end of the week in an informal Shareformance. Programs this year include:

  • Clash of the Movie Monsters
  • ¡Hola Casita! Songs from Disney’s Encanto
  • The Kraken, Mothman and Ogopogo: Writing Urban Legends

Two-week Performance Academies offer the chance to experience the production of a play from start to finish. These camps have become popular for young theatre enthusiasts who enjoy working as an ensemble to rehearse and perform a play — but any student who is interested in learning theatre is welcome to register. Each session concludes with a performance for family and friends, complete with sets, props and costumes. Performance Academies include:

  • Annie KIDS
  • Disney’s Finding Nemo KIDS
  • Mean Girls JR.
  • She Kills Monsters: Young Adventurers Edition

New programming this summer includes one-week Performance Showcases and Intensives that focus more deeply on honing performance and storytelling techniques. Thematic content varies from week to week, but each camp explores these techniques through the lens of a specific story, musical or performance style. Campers will have extended rehearsal time in the lead-up to a showcase at the end of the week where they’ll share selections of what they have focused on with family and friends.

Programs include:

  • Musical Theatre Intensive: Spotlight on Disney’s Descendants: The Musical
  • It’s Showtime! Beetlejuice the Musical Showcase
  • Little Monsters Pop Music Explosion Showcase
  • Playwriting Inside the Upside Down Showcase
  • How to Make it Through a Zombie Apocalypse: Combat Showcase

“Theatre can be created by any person at any age, and our camp staff loves helping our campers play a part in that process during summer programs,” says Moses. “We always see students gain both confidence and performance skills. By the end of the summer, they’ve made new friends and are brimming with the joy that is live performance. It’s a pretty magical time.”

The Launch Pad Accessibility Program continues this summer, offering opportunities for campers who have developmental disabilities, neurodivergences and sensory challenges to participate in camps and have their unique needs met. Camp staff are trained to meet specific needs and accommodations, and a family coordinator works with parents and caregivers to ensure a comfortable experience for their camper.

Enrollment is now open with early bird pricing until Feb. 29. Financial scholarships are available for campers who demonstrate need, and Before Care and After Care options are available at all locations.

This version of Anything Goes was adapted from the 1987 Broadway revival, originally produced by Lincoln Center Theater.

ANYTHING GOES is set aboard an ocean liner in the 1930s and follows the romantic escapades of an eccentric cast of characters. As they sail across the Atlantic, love triangles, mistaken identities, and hilarious antics ensue. The musical delivers a whirlwind of romance, mischief, and unexpected twists. Music, dance, laughs and the age-old tale of boy meets girl…  Anything Goes is delightful, delicious and de-lovely!

AUDITION here:

  1. CYPT Summer 2024: Anything Goes on Lome (withlome.com)
  2. Bring your completed audition packet to your audition appointment.
  3. Important: Arrive 15-20 minutes BEFORE the scheduled audition time to fill out paperwork.
  4. Please prepare a song from a musical theater show tune that best represents your singing voice (please bring sheet music for our accompanist).   Please note:  Do not expect to sing a cappella or with pre-recorded music.
  5. Dress appropriately as you will be required to complete a dance audition/assessment.

All auditionees must complete all parts of the audition.

  • A headshot and resume.
  • Link(s) to your audition video (Should feature you singing and dancing).

Please note:  Your video link may include previous shows/roles or your “audition reel” or something you create for this audition.  The team will want to see you, hear you sing, and get a sense of how you move/dance.  The video links will not be judged on technical quality, but only on your appropriateness to the roles available in the show as demonstrated in the recording.

TECHNICAL POSITIONS INTERVIEWS:  Interviews will be set up for those interested in working tech for this production.  To set up your tech interview, email Jenniferperrino@clpshows.org with your name, age, phone and what tech position(s) your interested in.

Participation Fee:  All participants (on stage and off) are required to pay a participation fee for this summer program.  Fee will be due at the first rehearsal: $195.00 for performers (includes costume and show t-shirt); $50.00 for Techies (includes show t-shirt).

Please Note:  A limited amount of funds are in place to assist with the participation fee. Funds are distributed on a confidential basis.  Everyone is encouraged to audition, regardless of ability to pay!  Choosing the cast of the show is based upon talent, enthusiasm and availability only. Ability to pay the participation fee is never a factor in casting decisions.

What is CYPT?  Cincinnati Young People’s Theatre provides a summer of great experience for performers and techies alike. Many alumni are professional actors, singers, dancers, technicians and musicians.  Others are Drama, Opera, Music Theatre, Voice, Music and Broadcasting majors at colleges all over the country.  To date, over 3,000 teens have been a part of CYPT!

CYPT has produced 39 years of exciting shows, including: Legally Blonde, Footloose, Children of Eden, Hello Dolly, Anything Goes, The Pajama Game, Godspell, Les Misérables, Crazy For You, The Wedding Singer, Grease, Hairspray, West Side Story, Beauty and the Beast, The Music Man, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar and many more!

CYPT is the recipient of the Post-Corbett Award for Outstanding Arts Organization, plus, the National Recreation and Parks Arts and Humanities Award, and the Ohio State Award for Best Student Program.

CYPT brings together scores of teens each summer, on stage and off.  In 2023, participants came from 38 different schools, from all over the Southwest Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeast Indiana region.

CYPT is for you!  The teenage performer/techie interested in three things: 1) Theatrical Experience; 2) A Summer project with a difference; 3) A lot of new friends with the same interests.
