Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati and the Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati Return for the Holidays with the Character Crew

PIP_logo(CINCINNATI) – Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati and The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati are joining together once again to bring beloved characters to life across the Tristate with a number of special holiday appearances beginning Nov. 12.

ETC_new_logo_bannerCharacters from Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park’s 26th annual production of A Christmas Carol, presented by U.S. Bank; Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati’s world premiere production of the musical Cinderella: After Ever After, sponsored by Macy’s; and The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati’s holiday production of Elf The Musical JR., also sponsored by Macy’s, will spread holiday cheer at events around the city from mid-November through Nov. 27.

The Character Crew will make appearances at the following holiday attractions:

  • Saturday, Nov. 12 (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.): Greater Cincinnati Holiday Market, Duke Energy Convention Center
  • Friday, Nov. 18 (5 to 7 p.m.): Festival of Lights Members’ Preview, Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden
  • Saturday, Nov. 19 (9 a.m. to noon): Cincinnati Pops Family Lollipops Concert, Taft Theatre (The CSO’s Tempo the Penguin character will also make an appearance at this event)
  • Saturday, Nov. 19 (2 to 4 p.m.): Crafty Supermarket, University of Cincinnati Recreation Center
  • Friday, Nov. 25 (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.): Tree Lighting and Santa Arrival, Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal
  • Saturday, Nov. 26 (5:30 to 7 p.m.): Macy’s Downtown Dazzle, Fountain Square
  • Sunday, Nov. 27 (noon to 2 p.m.): Winterfair, Northern Kentucky Convention Center

TCTC_new logoThe Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park has been offering local audiences the finest in professional theatre for 57 years. Winner of two Tony Awards, the Playhouse is nationally known for its commitment to new works and as an artistic home for America’s best actors, directors and designers. Now in its 31st season, Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati (ETC), located in historic Over-the-Rhine, is a professional theatre dedicated to producing world and regional premieres of works that often explore compelling social issues. This season marks the 19th year ETC has been presenting family-friendly musicals for the holidays. The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati (TCT) brings art to life for children and the young-at-heart through three key programs: MainStage at the Taft Theatre, TCT On Tour and TCT Academy. Currently celebrating its 92nd season, TCTC is the oldest children’s theatre in the country and serves nearly 200,000 children, families and students each season. Cincinnati Music Hall: Architectural, Lighting and Surplus Items Available for Public Sale

caa_music-hall-tag-sale-logoCincinnati, OH – Select architectural, lighting, and surplus items from Cincinnati Music Hall will be made available for the public to purchase at a sale coordinated by the Wooden Nickel Antiques– Cincinnati’s leader in architectural recycling and Music Hall’s neighbor in Over-the-Rhine.  An inventory of items and other sale details will be available at http://www.woodennickelantiques.net/music-hall beginning this Friday, October 28.

A ticketed, “early-bird” pre-sale event is scheduled for Friday, November 11 from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM at the Wooden Nickel Antiques’ warehouse at 1515 Central Parkway. Tickets are $25 and go on sale Friday, October 28 at 10:00 AM at http://www.CincinnatiArts.org, (513) 621-ARTS [2787], and the Aronoff Center Ticket Office. Tickets will also be available at the event.

An open public sale is scheduled for the following dates/times (no ticket or admission fee is required for these dates):

  • Saturday, November 12, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Sunday, November 13, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Monday-Friday, November 14-18, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Saturday, November 19, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Following the closure of Music Hall this past May for extensive renovations, portraits, statues, artworks, and many other items were moved into storage prior to the early demolition phase of the project. While the theater’s most recognizable artifacts will be reincorporated into Music Hall, many other items, including theater and box seats, gilt mirrors, aluminum chairs from Music Hall’s ballroom, benches, decorative hardware, poster displays, and lighting fixtures are surplus to the Music Hall project and will be made available to the general public in support of the renovation of this historic Cincinnati landmark.

Other items have found or will find new homes. The SORG Opera House in Middletown (www.sorgoperahouse.org) has already received and installed several hundred of Music Hall’s auditorium seats. The Cincinnati Shakespeare Company’s new Otto M. Budig Theater (under construction down the street from Music Hall at 12th and Elm Streets – www.cincyshakes.com) will display the carved figures of “Comedy and Tragedy” originally salvaged from Cincinnati’s National Theater, which in the 1800s showcased America’s preeminent Shakespearean actors.

Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Society for the Preservation of Music Hall, a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization founded to preserve, promote, improve, and provide education about Music Hall.

An Evening with Garrison Keillor | Fri., May 19 | Aronoff Center

CINCINNATI, OH  – The Cincinnati Arts Association (CAA) is pleased to present An Evening with Garrison Keillor at the Aronoff Center’s Procter & Gamble Hall on Friday, May 19 at 8:00 PM. The event is part of CAA’s 2016-17 Season.

In a solo performance, the acclaimed former host of A Prairie Home Companion shares hilarious anecdotes about growing up in the American Midwest, the people of Lake Wobegon, and “late-life fatherhood.” With a wonderful, dry sense of humor, Keillor captivates audiences using his unique blend of comedy, class, charisma, and wisdom.

One of the most prolific American storytellers of all time, Garrison Keillor is a writer and humorist best known for his popular live radio variety show, A Prairie Home Companion, which attracts more than four million listeners on more than six hundred public radio stations each week.

Keillor is also the host of the daily radio and online program, The Writers Almanac, and the editor of several anthologies of poetry, most recently, Good Poems: American Places. A best-selling author, he has published more than two dozen books, including Lake Wobegon Days, The Book of Guys, Pilgrims, Guy Noir and the Straight Skinny, and Homegrown Democrat. In 2006, Keillor played himself alongside a cast that included Meryl Streep, Lily Tomlin and Kevin Kline, in the critically-acclaimed film adaptation of A Prairie Home Companion, directed by Robert Altman.

ROBIN HOOD Rights the Wrongs to Launch Free Family Fun Series at Arts Center at Dunham

pip_robin-hood-promo2CINCINNATI, OH – October 12, 2016 — The Free Family Fun Series is back for another season at the Arts Center at Dunham with Robin Hood by Greg Banks and performed by the Playhouse in the Park’s Off the Hill Productions on Saturday, October 29 at 2 p.m.

Courtesy of a grant from Price Hill Will Arts CAT, Off the Hill Productions’ Robin Hood centers on good and evil in this tale of a legendary outlaw who robs from the rich to give to the poor. Robin Hood and his merry band of underground heroes rally to support those who cannot fight for themselves. But when they run afoul of the greedy Prince John, the deceptive Sheriff of Nottingham devises an elaborate plot to discover Robin Hood’s hideout and capture him once and for all. Full of swordfights and wordplay, this decidedly modern take on the classic story is a high-powered action-packed adventure. Robin Hood is recommended for ages 8 and up.

“The Arts Center at Dunham is thrilled to bring back the Free Family Fun Series,” said Carrie Mees, who supports programming at the Arts Center at Dunham. “The series has developed a strong following in the community and is a great way to spread the love of fine arts to children of all ages.”

All Free Family Fun Series performances are on Saturdays at 2:00 p.m. The remaining series includes:

  •  January 7, 2017 – Cincinnati Ballet
    Dancers from the prestigious Cincinnati Ballet will provide an exciting peek into the typical day in the life of professional dancers. Audience members will learn the fundamentals of the art of ballet and gain an understanding of the discipline and athleticism required for a professional career in ballet. A dance demonstration with audience participation and a question and answer discussion are included.
  • January 21, 2017 Around the World in 80 Days by Toby Hulse from the book by Jules Verne and performed by the Playhouse in the Park’s Off the Hill Productions. Courtesy of a grant from Price Hill Will Arts CAT.Join Phileas Fogg in the world’s most amazing race. Via rail, boat and even elephant, Fogg must travel the globe in just 80 days or he will forfeit a fortune. But a snooping detective, a possible human sacrifice and even the will of Mother Nature all conspire against Fogg’s adventure of a lifetime in this exciting adaptation of the Jules Verne classic. Just three actors portray 19 different characters to create a spirited, fast-moving, highly imaginative and hilariously entertaining comedy. Recommended for ages 8 and up.
  • March 11, 2017 ROKCincy Opera for Children: “The Magic Flute”
    ROKCincy is thrilled to present Mozart’s beloved fairy tale opera “The Magic Flute.” The performance is 40 minutes in length and includes a question and answer session with the cast. ROKCincy is a non-profit program with a mission to introduce young people to the thrill of live, fully staged opera and to give developing professional musicians an opportunity to hone their performance skills through experience.
  • April 22, 2017 The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe based upon the story by C.S. Lewis, dramatized by Le Clanche du Rand and performed by the Playhouse in the Park’s Off the Hill Productions. Any who dare to dissent are turned instantly into stone. But one day, a little girl named Lucy enters this magical land through an enchanted wardrobe, and her fantastical adventure signals the fulfillment of a prophecy and great change to come. Step through the wardrobe with Lucy, Peter, Susan and Edmund in this tour-de-force, two-actor adaptation of the beloved and heroic tale of good’s triumph over evil. Recommended for ages 5 and up.

The Arts Center at Dunham is a fine arts center for the west side of Cincinnati and its vision is to provide affordable creative and performing arts for Price Hill and surrounding communities. Housed in one of the three remaining buildings of what was the first municipally owned tuberculosis sanatorium in the United States, the Arts Center includes a 350-seat performance venue as well as extensive studio and programming space.
