PIP_logoCALL FOR ENTRIES

We’re proud to partner with The Breath Project again this season as they continue to add to a national archive of 8-minute-and-46-second works from multidisciplinary theatre artists of color who are responding to this moment in history. All submissions that meet the guidelines will be included in the archive.

More information about The Breath Project and how to submit can be found at https://www.thebreathproject2020.com.

We are proud to share that Derek Snow and Candice Handy represented Cincinnati last year in the virtual festival and since then, Derek has been awarded a commission for a full production from The Breath Project.

THE PREMATURE CORPS     Mike Johnson     3 f 3m                       1 hr 30 min            French
This masterfully plotted show has so many twists and turns that we’re going to tell you only the bare minimum of the story so you can enjoy the surprises when you read the script. On the surface, it’s a “love triangle” tale: State’s witness Evan Jorris, under a government protection program after testifying against the mob, has a wife, Francine, who along with her lover, lawyer Larry Craig contrives to do away with her husband, confident that Evan’s protector, federal agent Bert Marshak, will assume logically, that the mob did the deed, and never suspect the two of them. This deceptively simple setup, however, is not at all what it seems. By the end of the first act, you may smugly think you can second guess the play’s outcome but in the second and final act, you’ll ruefully discover that you not only don’t know what’s what you don’t even know who’s who! The author of that super stunner THE PERFECT MURDER has so many shocks and surprises up his insidious sleeve that you’ll be downright popeyed as they explode into life, in this show that’s a surefire way to dazzle and delight your audience. We’ll say no more. Just get this show, quick! You and your audiences are in for the time of your lives!

THE WOMEN OF LOCKERBIE             Deborah Brevoort           4-5W 2m    1 hr 30min                   DPS
A mother from New Jersey roams the hills of Lockerbie Scotland, looking for her son’s remains that were lost in the crash of Pan Am 103. She meets the women of Lockerbie, who are fighting the U.S. government to obtain the clothing of the victims found in the plane’s wreckage. The women, determined to convert an act of hatred into an act of love, want to wash the clothes of the dead and return them to the victim’s families. THE WOMEN OF LOCKERBIE is loosely inspired by a true story, although the characters and situations in the play are purely fictional. Written in the structure of a Greek tragedy, it is a poetic drama about the triumph of love over hate. Winner of the silver medal in the Onassis International Playwriting Competition and the Kennedy Center Fund for New American Plays award.

FOUR OLD BROADS    Leslie Kimbell     6f, 1m              2 hr 00 min            French
Retired burlesque queen Beatrice Shelton desperately needs a vacation – and NOT another trip up to Helen, Georgia to see that “precious little German village for the umpteenth time.” A Sassy Seniors Cruise through the Caribbean may be just the ticket if she can just convince her best friend, Eaddy Mae Clayton, to stop praying and go with her. Unfortunately, things have not been very pleasant at Magnolia Place Assisted Living since Nurse Pat Jones began working there. The newest resident, Imogene Fletcher, is suddenly losing her memory. Maude Jenkins is obsessed with her favorite soap opera and planning her own funeral. Sam Smith, retired Elvis impersonator, keeps trying to bed every woman in the building. A mystery unfolds with laughter as the gals try to outsmart the evil Nurse Pat Jones and figure out why so many residents have been moved to “the dark side,” what exactly IS that mysterious pill, and what happened to Doctor Head? Hilarity ensues as Imogene goes undercover and Maude enters the Miss Magnolia Senior Citizen Pageant to throw Pat off their trail. If they can solve the mystery, they may make it to the cruise ship after all.
