Call for Submissions for TDW’s Home Brew Theatre 6

TDW_Home Brew logoThe Drama Workshop is now accepting submissions for Home Brew Theatre 6. Home Brew Theatre 6 will be staged at TDW’s Glenmore Playhouse one weekend only, January 20-22, 2023. Yep! January this season!!

Submissions will be accepted through 9/18/2022.

Home Brew Theatre is TDW’s festival featuring short plays by local authors, including a Meet the Artists reception where local beer is featured. Since Home Brew Theatre’s inception in 2016, it has quickly become Cincinnati’s premiere short play festival.

Submission Rules:

  • Plays on any topic will be considered. There is no theme. Dramas, comedies and musicals will be considered.

  • Plays must be unpublished.

  • Plays must not have been performed for a paying audience in the greater Cincinnati area in the two years prior to the January 2023 performance. (Public readings and workshops are permitted.)

  • Plays should require very little in terms of props and sets. We have to transition quickly between plays. We will use tables, chairs, rehearsal cubes, and not much else.

  • Playwrights must live within 100 miles of Cincinnati, and are encouraged to attend at least one performance.

  • Limit 2 submissions per playwright.(Maximum 1 per playwright will be produced.)

  • Plays must be submitted anonymously. No identifying information can appear on the document itself. All contact information should be in the body of the submission email.

  • Email your submission(s) to tdw.homebrew@gmail.com, with the subject “HBT6 Submission: [Play Title(s)]”.

  • Playwrights of selected plays will receive a small honorarium.

  • Playwrights may be consulted regarding production aspects of their plays, but final decision making resides with the production creative team and The Drama Workshop.

  • All performance and publishing rights will remain the ownership of the authors.

Assistant Stage Manager Sought by The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati

The Assistant Stage Manager will assist the organization in fulfilling its mission of educating, entertaining and engaging audiences of all ages through professional theatrical productions and arts education programming

Along with the Resident Stage Manager, the Assistant Stage Manager coordinates rehearsal and performance needs for The Children’s Theatre.

This position will report directly to the Resident Stage Manager. 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing schedules for technical departments and casts with the Resident Stage Manager and Director of Production.
  • Attend all production meetings, load- in, load- out, rehearsals, and performances.
  • Assist in the scheduling of rehearsals and performances.
  • Assist in paperwork generally associated with Stage Management including crew running paperwork, character costume breakdowns, properties tracking sheets, etc., as well as prompt book creation.
  • Assist in performer choreography and blocking record keeping.
  • Assisting the Resident Stage Manager with all duties required for the production, including set up of the rehearsal room, lighting and sound needs, taping out the rehearsal space, prop table, and the creation, maintenance, and distribution of all paperwork including the prompt book containing blocking and production cue.
  • Serve as Child Wrangler for all youth performers within the productions.
  • Other duties as assigned by Resident Stage Manager.

Ideal and Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to work and maintain schedules for technical departments and performers
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills
  • Knowledge of and Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to read written Music
  • Broad understanding of all aspects of technical theatre
  • Ability to work with people from a wide variety of backgrounds

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Stipend based per show

Stage Manager Sought for SEE ME. HEAR ME. at American Legacy Theatre

American Legacy Theatre generates inviting, reimagined theatrical experiences for all people to have a voice in enriching society.

PROJECT
SEE ME. HEAR ME. is an original one-act play focused around family miscommunication, youth trauma stemming from isolation and gender identity, and career pathways in behavioral health all to reduce stigma around youth mental health services. Developed with A.L.T, in consultation with Ohio’s Dept of Mental Health and Addiction Services, this piece was written by Executive Artistic Director & CEO, Matthew David Gellin.

SEE ME. HEAR ME. is to be performed in a localized tour to Southwest Ohio high schools. This will be a 6-person company – 4 actors, 1 stage manager, 1 company manager, 2 vans.

** Rehearsals and performances will be during the day time Monday through Friday. **

TIMELINE
Resumes and Cover Letters: NOW. Submit by August 23, 2022 for first consideration.
Rehearsals begin: September 6, 2022
First Performance Date: September 13, 2022
Current Ending Contract Date: September 30, 2022
Up to 10 performances a week of this 45-minute piece.

EXPECTATIONS
The Stage Manager will structure, manage and execute the steps required to implement a high quality stage management process that serves the integrity of the play, bonds the other artists, aligns artistic scheduling, and heightens audience engagement with the piece. Attendance at production meetings and understanding of staging is a given.

Additional expectations: The Stage Manager must have a valid driver’s license and insurance as they will be responsible for driving one of the two vans. Additionally they will be the captain overseeing install and strike at each school location. During performance they will run the lights and sound. Stage Manager is also responsible for appropriate laundering of costumes and ensuring continued readiness of other production elements.

The Executive Artistic Director will be available to assist with critical components along the way.

COMPENSATION
This is a four-week contract at $900/week. Potential extension of tour is in consideration.

Roles Available for SOUTHERN FRIED NUPTIALS at Sunset Players

SSP_logoThe Sunset Players and director Dan Hawkins are looking to fill several roles for their fall show, SOUTHERN FRIED NUPTIALS, a comedy by Osborne & Eppler.

Synopsis:
Harlene Frye is going to marry her childhood sweetheart this weekend . . . assuming the typical Frye family hijinks don’t derail the wedding! Harlene and Attie’s future together is threatened when the bride-to-be’s awful ex-flame shows up with information she doesn’t want her fiancé finding out. And Harlene’s not the only Frye keeping secrets: Sammy Jo refuses to tell her family she’s moving even though all her bags are already packed. As if that isn’t enough, Dewey can’t figure out why people keep on asking him to give his sister away and busybody Ozella Meeks has somehow ended up as the wedding coordinator. Will the Fryes be able to get Harlene down the aisle in one piece? A bighearted comedy about family—Southern-style.

  • SAMMY JO FRYE-LeFETTE (30s) The middle child. She’s pretty sure she’s the perfect one.
  • DEWEY FRYE JR (late teens to early 20s) Dorothy’s youngest child. Some folks would say he’s one step short of a square dance, but he’s just dancing to his own tune. He won the lottery and all he bought was a new phone.
  • BEECHAM LeFETTE (30s) Sammy Jo’s husband.
  • CARTER CANFIELD (30s) Harlene’s smooth talking ex-flame. He’s TV- Star-handsome and he knows it.
