Auditions Announced for MACBETH at Dayton Drunk Theater

Dayton Drunk Theater is looking for 5-10 actors/improvisers/silly gooses for its amateur theatrical troupe!

DDT performs historical plays with a twist–improvisation, audience participation, and a whole lotta drinks (for those who partake). Audience members can expect to laugh til they cry, toast to tomfoolery, and maybe even be a part of the performance themselves!

Auditions will consist of improvisational games and cold reading from a one-act version of Shakespeare’s MACBETH. But this isn’t just any cold reading! You’ll perform the script with a randomized character, setting, props, costume, etc. We’re not looking for perfection–we’re looking for entertainment!

Auditions run Aug. 9 from 5:30pm-7:00pm; please plan on arriving on time and staying for the duration of the auditions so we can pair you with multiple scene partners.

Information for Troupe Members:
DDT troupe members are required to attend a mandatory dress rehearsal on Sunday, September 29th from 5-9pm and the performance of MACBETH on Friday, October 11th from 7-10:30pm. There may be additional optional practices as necessary. You are not committing to any future shows, although you are welcome to join us again in the future.

Troupe members may be asked to work the front door/ticket table for performances, lead games for audience members during the pre-show and intermission, hold cue cards for the audience, or other miscellaneous duties.

You are not obligated to drink at any time as a member of Dayton Drunk Theater, although you absolutely may at your discretion! Your choices regarding drinking are entirely your own and will be on your own dime. We do encourage patronizing our lovely home bar, Yellow Cab Tavern.

Auditions Announced for RADIUM GIRLS at SSCC Theatre

SSCC Theatre will hold auditions for the fall production of “Radium Girls,” by D.W. Gregory, open to community members and students, at 6:00 p.m. Friday, August 30, and at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 31, in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on Southern State Community College‘s Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro.

In 1926, when radium was a miracle cure, Madame Curie an international celebrity, and luminous watches the latest rage—until the girls who painted them began to fall ill with a mysterious disease. Inspired by a true story, “Radium Girls” traces the efforts of Grace Fryer, a dial painter, as she fights for her day in court. Her chief adversary is her former employer, Arthur Roeder, an idealistic man who cannot bring himself to believe that the same element that shrinks tumors could have anything to do with the terrifying rash of illnesses among his employees. As the case goes on, however, Grace finds herself battling not just with the U.S. Radium Corporation, but with her own family and friends, who fear that her campaign for justice will backfire.

Those interested in auditioning should prepare a dramatic one- to two-minute monologue and schedule an audition slot at https://www.sscctheatre.com/auditions. Memorization of the monologue is recommended but not required. Those interested in working on available crew positions will be asked to complete an interview during the day of auditions, and should also schedule an interview slot at the same link.

Auditions Announced for MACBETH at The Yellow Springs Theater Company

YSTC announces auditions for the annual Shakespeare Shindig Production of MACBETH by William Shakespeare.

PRODUCTION INFORMATION:
Rehearsals will run from August 13th until late October. Due to the concept for this production, specific details will be shared at the audition at this time.

PREPARATION:

  • Please be ready to do some simple choreography and read from the script at the audition. Wear comfortable clothes you can move in.
  • Audition will be reading from the script. if you wish to prepare a Shakespearean sonnet to support your audition, that would be fine.
  • A list of sides will be available closer to the audition and posted here to help with audition prep.
  • All roles are open to all genders. 21 or up, please.

What to prepare and bring:

  • Please sign up for an audition time through the SignUpGenius link below. Walk-ins are welcomed but will be assigned to the first available audition slot.
  • Please prepare 16 to 32 bars of a pop-style song that is not from Altar Boyz and demonstrates your best vocal ability. Make sure your sheet music is printed out, in the proper key, and has cuts clearly marked for the accompanist. Vocalizing will also take place to determine vocal range.
  • Monologues are not necessary—acting ability will be judged by the “selling” of your song.
  • Bring shoes and clothing appropriate for a dance audition, as you will be asked to participate in a dance combination. The combination will be taught during the audition.
  • Please provide a copy of your theatrical resume and headshot, if you have them.
  • Please bring a list of conflicts between November 2024 and February 2025.
  • Invited callbacks will include singing songs from the show and performing cold readings from the script.

Show Synopsis:
Altar Boyz is a hilarious spoof of a fictional Catholic boy band performing on the last night of their national “Raise the Praise” Tour. The Boyz are five all-singing, all-dancing heartthrobs from Ohio: Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan, and Abraham. The cast must be strong singers and “boy band” dancers with a lot of stamina. Any gymnastic ability would be very welcome but is not a must.

This production staff is committed to bringing together a diverse group of people who are dedicated to bringing this story to life. We encourage performers of all races, ethnicities, sexualities, and body types to audition. No roles have been precast. The playing age range should be 20s to early 30s. Performers must be 18+ to audition for this show. 

Roles:

Matthew – The handsome and charismatic founder and leader of the group.
Vocal range:  Baritone – C3 to B4 

Mark – A very sensitive young man who loves Cher. Comedic role.
Vocal range: Tenor – C3 to E5 

Luke – The bad boy of the group. Streetwise, but rather dim in every other way. Raised on the wrong side of tracks.
Vocal range: Baritone – C3 to A4 

Juan – The Latin lover with a passion for beautiful women.
Vocal range: Baritone – C3 to Bb4 

Abraham – The nice Jewish boy who loves hip-hop. Abe loves singing and dancing and is the member of the group who understands the message better than the rest.
Vocal range: Baritone – C3 to A4

Auditions Announced for Agatha Christie’s THE MOUSETRAP at Mason Community Players

Auditions for MCP’s THE MOUSETRAP to Be Held in August

Agatha’s Christie’s THE MOUSETRAP has the longest run of any play in the world. It premiered on the West End in London in 1952 and ran continuously until March 16, 2020, when it was forced to go dark due to COVID. The show reopened to audiences on May 17, 2021 and continues to be performed to this day.

THE MOUSETRAP takes place in England in the years following World War II. The mystery begins as news spreads of a murder in London. A group of seven strangers find themselves snowed in at a remote countryside guesthouse, Monkswell Manor. When a police sergeant arrives, the guests discover – to their horror – that a killer is in their midst! One by one, the suspicious characters’ sordid pasts are revealed. Which one is the murderer? Who will be the next victim? Can you solve this world-famous mystery for yourself?

Auditions will be held

  • Saturday, August 3rd, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM
  • Sunday, August 4th, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM

at the Mason Community Playhouse – 5529 Mason Road in Mason.

Those interested in auditioning will need complete an audition form at auditions. Auditions are open; there is no need to indicate which date/time that you will be attending.

The show’s characters include:

  • Mollie Ralston: the wife of Giles Ralston, Mollie is the young owner of Monkswell Manor which has recently been converted into a guest house. (Mid 20s to early 30s)
  • Giles Ralston: Mollie’s husband of one year and the co-host of Monkswell Manor. (Mid 20s to early 30s)
  • Christopher Wren: A flighty, obviously neurotic young man. (early to mid 20s)
  • Mrs. Boyle: Stern and generally unpleasant. (40+)
  • Major Metcalf: A typical retired British military officer. (40+)
  • Miss Casewell: A bit masculine in her demeanor remaining mysteriously aloof from the other guests. (mid 20s but looks older)
  • Mr. Paravicini: An unexpected guest due to his car getting stuck in a snowbank during a terrible blizzard. (30+)
  • Detective Sergeant Trotter: A late arrival trying to establish a relationship between any of the guests and a murder already committed in London. (early 20s but can look older)

THE MOUSETRAP will be performed November 15th, 16th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd at 8:00pm and 17th at 2:00pm. There will be a Cast/Crew meeting in August, but rehearsals will begin in September. Please be prepared to provide conflicts for rehearsals on your audition form. Rehearsals will be Monday through Thursday, with some Sundays afternoons, as needed.
