Based on the Universal Pictures’ cult classic movie of the same title, which starred Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly, XANADU is hilarity on wheels for adults, children and anyone who has ever wanted to feel inspired.

XANADU follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, California in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time – the first ROLLER DISCO! (Hey, it’s 1980!) But, when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation and chaos abounds. – See more at: http://www.mtishows.com/show_detail.asp?showid=000347#sthash.NhzYpIN8.dpuf

Auditions Announced for MAN OF LA MANCHA at Lebanon Theatre Company

LTC_logoThe Lebanon Theatre Company has announced dates for auditions for their upcoming production of the classic musical MAN OF LA MANCHA.  The auditions will be held at 7 p.m. on Mon., Mar. 16 and Tues., Mar. 17 at the Mechanic Street Playhouse, 10 S. Mechanic Street, Lebanon, Ohio.

The show’s director, Steven Haines, asks that those auditioning simply prepare a song from the standard musical theatre repertoire (1950’s through 1980’s).  The song does not need to be memorized, and an accompanist will be provided at the audition.  Other songs may be workshopped at the auditions, and scripts for coached scene readings will be available. Those auditioning must be at least 18 years of age and are welcome to come to both of the audition sessions.

Haines is looking to cast an ensemble of 15-18 singing actors who will play the 6 principal characters and the 10+ secondary characters that populate the musical.  The actual production will open on May 8 for a two weekend run of 6 performances.

MAN OF LA MANCHA is a multiple Tony Award-winning musical that vividly imagines the later life of the great Spanish novelist Miguel de Cervantes as he awaits his trial in a dungeon at the height of the Spanish Inquisition.  The musical moves seamlessly between the prison and Cervantes’ own outsized imagination, where his noble idealism finds expression in his greatest literary creation, Don Quixote.  MAN OF LA MANCHA, with a heartfelt score that includes the worldwide hit The Impossible Dream, is a testament to the triumph of the human spirit in the face of adversity.

Auditions Announced for BUS STOP at Mariemont Players

mpi_logoDirector Tom Peters will hold auditions for the Mariemont Players production of BUS STOP, a comedy by William Inge, at the Walton Creek Theater, 4101 Walton Creek Road (just east of Mariemont) from 7:00-9:00pm on Thursday, March 29th and 3:00-5:00pm on Sunday, March 26th. Callbacks, if needed, will be 7:00-9:00pm on Tuesday, March 31st, 2015.

In the middle of a howling snowstorm, a bus out of Kansas City pulls up at a cheerful roadside diner. All roads are blocked and the weary travelers will have to hole up until morning. Cherie, a nightclub chanteuse in a sparkling gown and a seedy fur-trimmed jacket, is the passenger with the most to worry about. A belligerent cowhand is right behind her, ready to sling her over his shoulder and carry her, alive and kicking, all the way to Montana.

The director is looking to casting age appropriate actors of any ethnicity for all the roles. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. The cast consists of 3 women and 5 men:

  • Elma Duckworth: Elma is an innocent and naive high-schooler, full of dreams, working as a waitress at the Bus Stop diner. (Age: 15-18)
  • Cherie: A nightclub chanteuse (a singer – ability to hold a tune not important, doesn’t have to be a ‘great’ singer), pretty, fragile, grew up too fast. She wears too much makeup, and is from the Ozarks. She has a southern accent. (Age: 18-24)
  • Grace Hoyland: Owns the diner. Her husband deserted her years ago and she’s finally come to terms with life. She’s wise and motherly, but can be a bit of a flirt if the right man is around. (Age: 35-60)
  • Bo Decker: Ranch owner, attractive, cowboy, brash, impulsive, naive, child-like, innocent and simple. (Age: 18-24)
  • Virgil Blessing: Ranch hand, good-hearted simple cowboy, like a father to Bo, laid back, plays guitar a bit. (Age: 40’s-50’s)
  • Will Masters: Sheriff, big, stern, means business but friendly. (Age: 40-mid 50’s)
  • Dr. Gerald Lyman: Former professor. Graying, alcoholic, divorced, struggling with his inner demons. (Age: 50-60’s)
  • Carl: Bus driver, hearty, a flirt, has seen just about everything. (Age: 30-60)

The production will be staged July 10th through July 26th, 2015.

Anyone with questions or would like a perusal script, please contact the director at sloanpeters@hotmail.com or 513-379-4502.
