Auditions Announced for ROCK OF AGES at Playhouse South

PS_logo2It’s the tail end of the big, bad 1980s in Hollywood, and the party has been raging hard. Aqua Net, Lycra, lace and liquor flow freely at one of the Sunset Strips last legendary venues, a place where sex machine Stacee Jaxx takes the stage and scantily clad groupies line up to turn their fantasies into reality. Amidst the madness, aspiring rock star (and resident toilet cleaner) Drew longs to take the stage as the next big thing (and longs for small-town girl Sherri, fresh off the bus from Kansas with stars in her eyes). But the rock and roll fairy-tale is about to end when German developers sweep into town with plans to turn the fabled Strip into just another capitalist strip mall. Can Drew, Sherri, and the gang save the strip–and themselves–before it’s too late? Only the music of hit bands Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake and more hold the answer. Show dates are May 11-13 and 18-20!

Initial auditions for ROCK OF AGES will take place on March 5th and 6th from 7–10pm. Auditioners should prepare between 16 and 32 measures (30-60 sec.) of an 80’s rock song. Please have sheet music of your audition song. Karaoke tracks are allowed, but they can often lead to technical difficulties. Have a backup plan! Traditional Broadway musical songs do not show off the correct style of singing that ROCK OF AGES will require. Look to the bands used in the musical’s soundtrack if you need inspiration.

You should bring a change of clothes and comfortable shoes, as there will be an element of choreography in the initial audition to assess your ability to learn choreography and see your dance moves!

Callbacks will take place on Wednesday, March 7th. If called back, auditioners will receive a cut of a song from the character(s) they are being called back for. We will have another element of choreography to learn for callbacks, so bring clothes/shoes for this, as well. Auditioners will be dismissed as soon as they are able, but callbacks may go as late as 10:00 pm.

*Please do not come to both nights of auditions as this will take time away from others. If there is a reason you are unable to come to callbacks, we can discuss whether or not you are needed to come for the second night of auditions.

If you have any questions about auditions, please contact the director, Aaron Eechaute-Lopez (eechautelopez@gmail.com).

Below is a breakdown of the character/roles. The age range is what age the character should look, not the age the actor must be.

DREW (Male; 18-28; Tenor)- An appealing, good-guy rocker with great, easy comedic timing, a boyish charm, vulnerability and a very strong rock tenor voice. Drew works at the legendary Bourbon Room hoping and waiting for his dreams to come true.

SHERRIE (Female; 17-25; Mezzo-Soprano/Alto)- An in-shape, pretty, fresh faced, innocent Midwestern girl stepping right off the bus into a new world to pursue her dreams of stardom. Strong comedic timing, strong rock belt, good movement ability. Should be comfortable in revealing/skimpy clothing and has very suggestive choreography. Rock and roll belting is a huge plus.

LONNY (Male; 20-35; Tenor) – The narrator of the piece, charming, mischievous, welcoming, vibrant personality, a guy who would be fun to spend one drunken night with. Strong, honest comedic timing and strong rock vocals. Improv skills are a must, as Lonny interacts with the audience throughout the show.

DENNIS DUPREE (Male; 27-45; Baritone)- Rough, scruff, bar type guy who runs the famous Bourbon Room club. Torn about whether he should sell the club to Hertz, a German businessman. Very strong comedic timing. A laid back, easy going dude real dude. Bari-tenor rock vocals.

STACEE JAXX (Male; 25-35; Tenor)- A sexy rock star (a la Bret Michaels). Decided to leave his successful hair/metal-rock band to try it solo. Self important, confident intriguing in all the wrong ways, the ultimate bad boy; he is all about sex, drugs and rock-n-roll. Great strong comedic timing and strong rock tenor voice.

JUSTICE (Female; 25-50; Mezzo-Soprano/Alto) African American (traditionally) female, strong presence, an easy sensuality about her, once a performer, she now operates a strip club where Sherrie winds up working. Takes on the maternal role for the girls that work for her. Strong, soulful vocals and belt needed.

HERTZ KLINEMANN (Male; 40-55; Baritone)- An attractive older German male. Uptight, cold, intimidating businessman trying to buy up the Strip to develop it. The bad guy of the piece. Strong comedic timing and baritone vocals.

FRANZ KLINEMANN (Male; 17-25; Tenor)- Hertz’s son, young German male. Works for his father but not by choice. Pressured and intimidated by his father. Shy, gentle with a big heart. Portrays many effeminate characteristics. Strong vocals and comedic timing.

REGINA (Female; 20-30; Mezzo-Soprano/Alto) – A fun, hippie type, earthy girl who fights against the attempted takeover of The Strip. Strong comedic timing, belt vocals and comfortable in revealing/skimpy clothing.

MAYOR – (Male or Female; 30-50; Tenor/Alto) Mayor of West Hollywood, who is faced with the decision to sell-out to Hertz. Strong vocals and comedic timing

JA’KEITH (Male; 25-50; Bari-tenor)- A strong character actor with good comedic timing, strong rock tenor and strong dance/movement ability. Boy band agent who lures Drew away from the Bourbon Room with a promise to make him a star.

JOEY PRIMO (Male; 17-30; Bari-tenor) A young male with the rocker sensibility, strong rock tenor and strong/dance/movement ability.

FATHER Sherrie’s conservative father, who objects to Sherrie’s move to LA. Will also appear as a member of the ensemble. Strong vocals.

MOTHER Sherrie’s conservative mother, who objects to Sherrie’s move to LA. but still remains in contact. Will also appear as a member of the ensemble. Strong vocals.

WAITRESS #1 (Female; 18-28; Alto) Featured singer- works with Sherrie – hilariously referred to as “Waitress #1” in show. Strong vocals, will also be member of Ensemble.

FEMALE ENSEMBLE (Female; 18-35; Various Vocal Ranges) – Three of the sexiest female singer/dancers around. Sassy, in shape, beautiful. Must be comfortable in very skimpy/sexy clothing. Strong dancers proficient in jazz and modern, comedic ability and strong rock vocals

Auditions Announced for the GREAT ROOM ESCAPE

MISC_Great Escape Room LogoAre you an actor looking for a job?

We are looking for actors who have a passion for delivering a good time and great customer service. You must be motivated and energetic, fun and free spirited.  We are currently looking for individuals who can be quick witted and fast thinkers because most of the job is improv.

I have roles as an ’80s dance party host who helps guests get the clues they need to get out of the room before mom gets home and you are all grounded, a zombie who chases you around the room and tries to eat your brains before you can figure out how to get out of the room, a professor who is a bit eccentric who is there to give guests a little helping hand should they get stuck on a clue and a game host who teaches guests how to throw axes. All roles are gender neutral so anyone can play any role.

You can audition in person on Thursday, Feb. 1 beginning at 6pm.

We are located in West Chester Township Just off of 747.

Our team members have a good time at work. Where else can you work that allows you to be wild and crazy and play games?

Email Travis@GreatRoomEscape.com for questions or more details.

We would love have you come be part of our team!
