Video Auditions Announced for HEDDA GABLER at Equality Productions

EP_logoEquality Productions announces auditions for a virtual production of Henrik Ibsen’s HEDDA GABLER.

“Do you think it quite incomprehensible that a young girl- when it can be done without anyone knowing- should be glad to have a peep, now and then, into a world which she is forbidden to know anything about?”

Skulking the walls of a house she never wanted and trapped in the confines of a marriage that disgusts her, bored, and mercurial Hedda Gabler longs for freedom she will never allow herself.  Quietly, maliciously, and perhaps desperately, she begins to manipulate the lives of those around her, orchestrating a bid for agency that careens toward self-destruction. Henrik Ibsen’s electrifying Hedda Gabler paints the snarled portrait of a woman whose character is not easily resolved and forces us to confront the humanity of those monsters fashioned in captivity.

CHARACTERS

  • HEDDA TESMAN: (stage age 25-35) Beautiful, bored, and often cruel, Hedda’s true nature is compressed by her own fear of scandal.
  • EILERT LOVBORG: (stage age 25-35) An old “friend” of Hedda’s and former tutor for the Elvsted household. Once resolutely bacchic, he has since been reformed through the influence of Thea Elvsted.
  • GEORGE TESMAN: (stage age 25-35) Hedda’s husband. Scholarly and proper, he feels unbelievably lucky to be married to Hedda.
  • THEA ELVSTED: (stage age 25-35) A schoolmate of Hedda’s and close collaborator of Eilert Loveborg. She is smart, passionate, and extremely concerned with Lovborg’s moral fortitude.
  • JUDGE BRACK: (stage age 35-45) Quietly devious and with a serious penchant for gossip, Judge Brack is both a confidant and a challenger to Hedda
  • MISS JULIANA TESMAN: (stage age 40-60)  George’s Aunt. She cares for her ailing sister and adores her nephew.
  • BERTA: (any age over 18) Maid to the Tesman family. She is sharp and very loyal to Juliana.

Equality Productions encourages submissions from artists with a broad range of backgrounds, including all races, ethnicities, disabilities, sexual identity, age, and gender/gender identity. The director welcomes all performers to audition as she is specifically looking to uplift the voices of BIPOC and LGBTQ2+ artists. This production is remote, so actors from all regions are welcome to audition (although all auditions, rehearsals, and performances are in EST).

Auditions will be hosted over Webex on Thursday, July 9th, and Friday, July 10th from 6-10 pm EST, with callbacks on July 11th from 6-10 pm EST. Please come prepared with a 1-2 minute performance or monologue or song, etc ! No restrictions; just something that showcases your talent and personality!

  6. Which rehearsal dates and times you can NOT attend from July 12th to August 30th (weekday evenings from 7-10 pm, Saturdays from 2 – 6pm and Sunday from  8am – 12pm ).

Those selected for callbacks will be reading selections from the play that will be sent the evening before, but anyone can download Hedda Gabler for free at https://www.gutenberg.org/files/4093/4093-h/4093-h.htm

Minimum technical requirements for actors include:

  1. A computer, smartphone, or tablet with a working microphone and camera that can be used without a headset,
  2. A stable internet connection (https://www.speedtest.net/) and the ability to connect your device directly via ethernet cable,
  3. A quiet space with good/controllable lighting to rehearse and record,
  4. Moveable light fixtures and other camera/recording equipment are a plus!

This performance is non-union with all the proceeds being donated to an organization of the ensemble’s choice- therefore, the roles are non-paid.

Rehearsals will start mid-July and continue into mid-August. Rehearsal will be 5 times a week, 2-3 hours. This production will be rehearsed, performed, and recorded through video conferencing, with the final product being released in August.

Actors will collaborate with the director and designers to assemble props and costumes and develop hair and makeup looks.

Video Auditions Announced for THE REVOLUTIONISTS at Equality Productions

EP_logoEQUALITY PRODUCTIONS announces the auditions for THE REVOLUTIONISTS by Lauren Gunderson. Four beautiful badass women lose their heads in this irreverent, girl-powered comedy set during the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror. This grand and dream-tweaked play is about violence and legacy, art and activism, feminism and terrorism, compatriots and chosen sisters, and how we actually go about changing the world.

Four Female-Identifying Roles Available:

  • OLYMPE de GOUGES— 30s-50s. Badass activist playwright and feminist. Theatre nerd, excitable, passionate, a showman. Widowed and never remarried to ensure her personal freedom.
  • CHARLOTTE CORDAY—20s-30s. Badass country girl and assassin. Very serious, hardened by righteousness, never been kissed.
  • MARIE ANTOINETTE—30s-50s. Less badass but fascinating former queen of France. Bubbly, graceful, opinionated, totally unaware, unintentionally rude, and oddly prescient. Never had a real friend.
  • MARIANNE ANGELLE—20-40s. A badass black woman in Paris. She is from the Caribbean, a free woman, a spy working with her husband, Vincent. Tough, classy, vigilant. The sanest one of them all.

Non-union. This production will be done as a fundraiser and therefore these roles will not be paid. All rehearsals will take place online in a Zoom format. The show will be recorded and released in late August.

GOLDEN GIRLS Virtual Auditions

EP_logoEquality Productions announces auditions for virtual recordings of two episodes from the TV series: THE GOLDEN GIRLS in honor of LBGTQ Pride Month. The productions will benefit Ohio LGBTQ organizations and therefore these roles are non-paid.

Sign up to audition for one or more roles on Thursday, July 2nd. The script will be emailed to you prior to the audition. Both men and women will be considered for casting for female roles.

BLANCHE is a vivacious, slightly promiscuous Southerner with a flair for younger men.

CLAYTON is Blanche’s younger brother. According to Blanche, he is just as “great looking, charming and irresistible to men” as his sister. Clayton, a divorcee, came into his own and proudly so as a gay man.

DOROTHY is a no-nonsense woman who worked as a teacher. She often delivers stinging insults and sharp punchlines.

ROSE is a well-intentioned but very daffy woman who didn’t always understand the intricacies of speech.

SOPHIA is Dorothy’s mother and is as sharp-tongued as her daughter.

Auditions Announced for FIBBER MCGEE AND MOLLY: A Radio Play at Footlighters Inc.

FLI_logoFootlighters Theatre is proud to announce auditions for FIBBER MCGEE AND MOLLY: A Radio Play.

Directed by Amanda Marasch-Brinkman

“The Johnson Wax Program with Fibber McGee and Molly” (the show’s full sponsored name) is one of the rare radio programs which has achieved a kind of immortality. Well after the series petered out in the mid-1950s, people still respond to the words “Fibber McGee’s Closet,” even if they’ve never heard the original.

Performers and Listeners today will find the show a time capsule, full of corny jokes, and dated reference. There are also genuine good feelings, a true sense of happiness, and always a lesson to be learned.

If you wish to audition, please submit a video to Footlightersradioshow@gmail.com by June 28. Please submit a video of you reading one of the two announcer monologues below, and either the Fibber side or Molly side in the style of a 1940s Radio Show. If you wish to be considered for the Radio Singers, please submit 16-32 bars of a 1940s style song.

Performance is on July 25th at 7:00pm and July 26th at 2:00pm.

Auditions Announced for THE GOLDEN GIRLS Episodes Celebrating Pride at Equality Productions

EP_logoEquality Productions announces auditions for virtual recordings of two episodes from the TV series: THE GOLDEN GIRLS in honor of LBGTQ Pride Month (June):

ISN’T IT ROMANTIC: Dorothy’s college friend Jean comes for a visit and Dorothy decides not to tell Blanche and Rose that Jean is a lesbian. Jean confides to Dorothy that she’s in love with Rose. Meanwhile, Sophia rents X-rated movies.

SISTERS OF THE BRIDE: Blanche’s brother Clayton arrives with a big surprise: his boyfriend, Doug. Blanche claims to have accepted Clay’s sexual orientation, but witnessing his relationship throws her for a curve. Meanwhile, Rose is determined to win the “Volunteer of the Year” award.

CHARACTERS:

  • JEAN is intelligent and warm, but quiet compared to the lead quartet.
  • ROSE is a well-intentioned but very daffy woman who didn’t always understand the intricacies of speech.
  • SOPHIA is Dorothy’s mother and is as sharp-tongued as her daughter.

All the characters are in their 60’s, except for Clayton who is 45-55 and Sophia who is in her 80s. All gender identities are welcome to audition for any role.

The productions will benefit Ohio community theaters and therefore these roles are non-paid. The director, Richard Zenk, expects to begin rehearsals the week of June 29 with recordings the week of July 12th. Actors will be responsible for their costumes, hair, and makeup. Some assistance can be provided with wigs.

Email your theater resume and 1-minute video audition by June 24 to equalityproductionscincy.com.  State your name and the role for which you are auditioning at the start of the recording. Then record yourself in the character you chose. Do an internet search for inspiration.

“Rose, he left me 38 years later for a stewardess that he met on a business trip to Hawaii. It was her first flight. They said, ‘On arrival, give the passengers a lei.’ She got confused, he got lucky, and they now live on Maui.” — Dorothy
