Auditions Announced for THE ODD COUPLE at The Drama Workshop

TDW_VERTTHE ODD COUPLE
Written by Neil Simon

Directed & Produced by Ray Persing

Auditions will be Aug 17 & 21, 2016, at The Glenmore Playhouse, 3716 Glenmore Ave, Cheviot, OH 45211. Doors will open at 6:30pm, and auditions will begin promptly at 7pm. Actors are asked to bring a resume and headshot, and will audition in groups. Auditions will run no later than 9 pm, and may end earlier. Callbacks, if necessary, will be on Aug 24, 2016. Updates will be posted on the TDW Facebook page.

Show dates are February 24, 2017 through March 12, 2017. Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 pm, Sunday afternoon at 2 pm. Call time is 1 ½ hours before curtain, unless other arrangements are made with the stage manager. Table work will begin in December, with rehearsals starting in January.

The director is seeking eight actors. Needed: 6 men (40-60) and 2 women (ages late 20s-early 30s). Performers of all ethnic and racial backgrounds are encouraged to audition.

ABOUT THE SHOW: This classic comedy opens as a group of the guys assembled for cards in the apartment of divorced Oscar Madison. And if the mess is any indication, it’s no wonder that his wife left him. Late to arrive is Felix Unger who has just been separated from his wife. Fastidious, depressed and more than a bit tense, Felix seems suicidal, but as the action unfolds Oscar becomes the one with murder on his mind when the clean-freak and the slob ultimately decide to room together with hilarious results as The Odd Couple is born.

  • Oscar Madison (Lead): Male, early 40s
Sports writer in New York. Divorced and used to it. Behind on his alimony, but doesn’t take anything too seriously. A slob, untidy with little care for tending to his surroundings, which is a large and very nice 8 room apartment in the upper eighties of New York, he has relaxed into his environment, and hosts rowdy poker nights and is generous with his apartment and with his friends.
  • Felix Ungar (Lead): Male, early 40s
Obsessive/Compulsive/Neurotic in a funny way. Loves to cook very fancy meals. Cleans too much. In the midst of a divorce, kicked out by his soon-to-be ex-wife and very upset about it. Fastidious, well dressed, loves to spend time in the kitchen, everything has its place, also very emotional with a list of maladies: sinus problems, back problems, emotional problems. Oscar has invited him to live with him for a while until he gets things sorted out, their relationship is oil and water.
  • Speed, Roy, Murray & Vinnie (Supporting): Male, 40-59
Oscar’s poker buddies, an assortment of “character types” (Speed is a bit of a wiseguy, Roy is Oscar’s accountant, Murray is a police officer, Vinnie is a bit hen-pecked). They enjoy playing cards together, and teasing and jabbing each other, these poker nights are their nights away from the wives.
  • Gwendolyn & Cecily Pigeon (Supporting): Female, late 20s – early 30s
British sisters living in Oscar’s building, Oscar looks at them as potential dates for himself and Felix, very sweet and accommodating and quick to laugh.

Actors who are selected will be contacted by the director. The practice of The Drama Workshop is to notify all auditioners via email of results once the show is cast, after which a cast list will be posted on the TDW website and Facebook page. Those without email who are not cast will not be contacted individually.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:

Please bring a current headshot & resume. No prepared monologue is required. Auditions will consist of readings from the script. Callbacks, if needed, will be at the director’s discretion. Bring your calendar and be prepared to list all conflicts. Conflicts not listed at time of audition may not be honored. Those who are cast will be expected to assist with the staging, advertising, or some other aspect of the production.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Ray Persing at 937.877.6116 or at trpersing@gmail.com.

Presented by Diogenes Theatre Company
July 18-21
Know Theatre of Cincinnati Underground [Over-the-Rhine]

Directed by Brian Isaac Phillips

Starring Torie Wiggins

Gang members, police officers, activists and shopkeepers of every race have a voice in TWILIGHT: LOS ANGELES, 1992. This American masterpiece uses the verbatim words of people who experienced the Los Angeles riots to expose and explore the human impact of that event. A single actor gives voice to the diversity and tension of a city in turmoil. Going directly to the heart of issues of race and class, TWILIGHT probes the language and the lives of its subjects, offering stark insight into the complex social, economic and political issues that fuled the flames in the wake of the Rodney King verdict.
