DTGOpen audition notice for THE LAST LIFEBOAT by Luke Yankee

Auditions will be held Tue & Wed, July 5 & 6, 2016, starting at 7:00 pm both nights.
Production dates: Aug 19-Sep 4, 2016

The Dayton Theatre Guild at the Caryl D. Philip TheatreScape
430 Wayne Ave, Dayton OH, 45410

Directed by Jeff Sams
Produced by Debra Kent

Joseph Bruce Ismay, an English businessman who served as chairman and managing director of the White Star Line of steamships becomes the perfect scapegoat for the sinking of the Titanic. Ismay saved as many people as he could, but with no women and children in sight, he stepped into the last lifeboat…and was branded a coward and a traitor forever. This play deals not only with the disaster itself, but the sensationalized trials and aftermath of an event that changed the world forever.

Casting Requirements:

  • Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.
  • A résumé and headshot are not required but are appreciated.
  • Please provide a list of all known conflicts between July 7 & Sep 4, 2016.

This is a movement play. Those auditioning should be able to move, sit, and stand easily. This production will use eight actors to play over sixty roles by changing costume pieces and using hand props and a minimal set (much like the Royal Shakespeare’s NICHOLAS NICKLEBY or PETER AND THE STARCATCHER.) Actors never leave the stage and work as an ensemble to tell the story. Most characters speak with standard British accents.

Actors who can speak with an Irish or Scottish dialect should be prepared to demonstrate one as part of auditions, but this is not a requirement.

NOTE: The breakdown of characters for actors found in the script may not be the exact breakdown used for this production.

  • Actor #1: 40s. Plays J. Bruce Ismay, the central character in the story. A reluctant businessman who was branded a coward for taking a seat in the last lifeboat to leave the Titanic.

  • Actor #2: 20s-30s. Plays William Randolph Hearst, Thomas Andrews and others. Youthful appearance and energy is prefered.

  • Actor #3: 30s-40s. Plays a wide range of characters (Policeman, Sailor, Senator Fletcher, etc.)

  • Actor #4: 60s. Plays Captain Smith (of the Titanic), J.P. Morgan,Thomas Ismay and John Jacob Astor. Must be willing and able to grow facial hair to match that of the famous Captain Smith.

  • Actress #1: 40s. Plays the role of Vivian, a widow and acquaintance of Ismay. Also plays other female characters.

  • Actress #2: 20s. Plays Florence Ismay and others. Must be able to play a small girl in some scenes.

  • Actress #3: 50s-60s Plays Margaret Ismay (Bruce’s mother) among other female roles.

FOOTLOOSE The Musical Runs July 9-31

KRT_Footloose logoFOOTLOOSE The Musical
Kincaid Regional Theatre
July 9-31
Falmouth, KY

One of the most explosive movie musicals in recent memory bursts onto the live stage with exhilarating results. When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, Ren is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. What he isn’t prepared for are the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, determined to exercise the control over the town’s youth that he cannot command in his own home. When the reverend’s rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren’s reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid. The heartfelt story that emerges is of a father longing for the son he lost and of a young man aching for the father who walked out on him. To the rockin’ rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated top 40 score (the soundtrack album reached number one on the Billboard charts and has sold over 15 million copies!) and augmented with dynamic new songs for the stage musical, FOOTLOOSE celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind.
