(CINCINNATI, April 6, 2015) – Xavier University Theatre concludes its 2014-15 season with SPRING AWAKENING. Performances will take place in Xavier’s Gallagher Student Center Theater from April 16 to 19. All performances begin at 7:30 p.m.

SPRING AWAKENING is an exhilarating rock musical about the trials and tribulations of growing up. The winner of eight Tony Awards, including best musical, SPRING AWAKENING follows a group of students as they navigate the journey from adolescence to adulthood through a powerful celebration of youth and rebellion. A landmark musical, SPRING AWAKENING electrifies audiences with its fusion of morality, sexuality and rock and roll. The book and lyrics for SPRING AWAKENING were written by Steven Slater, with music by Duncan Sheik. The musical is based upon the original play by Frank Wedekind.

“I think it is important for Xavier to be producing this show because it speaks volumes to our generation, especially in terms of figuring out who we are as we grow up and make the transition into adulthood,” says Maya Farhat, who plays Wendla in the production. “I’m also very excited about the technical aspects. Alana Yurczyk has designed a beautiful set and Alice Trent’s lighting is going to take us from 1891 Germany into a dynamic concert atmosphere.”

In addition to Farhat, the cast for SPRING AWAKENING includes Stephanie Ambrose as Martha, Griff Bludworth as Mortiz, Mary Bond as Anna, Sean Burlingame as the Adult Male, Molly Hiltz as the Adult Female, Megan Hostetler as Ilse, Aaron Krick as Ernst, Tyler Kuhlman as Melchior, Brandon Langjahr as Otto, Ryan O’Toole as Georg, Elizabeth Rancourt as Thea and Alex Spindler as Hanschen, and Mac Blais, Ellen C. Godbey, Julia Kempf and Justin Lee as the Chorus.

The creative team for SPRING AWAKENING includes costume designer Kathleen Hotmer, sound designer Cam Mitchell, set designer Alana Yurczyk, lighting designer Alice Trent and props designer Kathleen Licht. The show is music directed by Scot Buzza, choreographed by Dee Anne Bryll and directed by Stephen Skiles.

Tickets for SPRING AWAKENING are available now through the Xavier University Theatre Box Office. Tickets are $17 for adults and $12 for students, as well as Xavier faculty and staff. To purchase tickets, visit www.xavier.edu/theatre or call 513-745-3939.
