Auditions Announced for HOME BREW THEATRE V at The Drama Workshop

TDW_Home Brew 5 logoThe Drama Workshop is holding open auditions for HOME BREW THEATRE V, our showcase of short plays by local authors. Performance dates: January 14-16, 2022.

This year there are nine plays and one musical.

In Person Auditions:

Sunday October 24, 2021

  • Play auditions: 4-6pm
  • Musical Auditions: 6-6:45pm

Monday October 25, 2021

  • Play auditions 6-8pm
  • Musical Auditions 6-6:45pm

Home Brew is TDW’s showcase of short plays by local authors, accompanied by a reception featuring beer from a local brewery. This year Home Brew will have either 3 or 4 performances over the weekend of January 14-16, 2022, (possibly including a Saturday matinee).

Everyone associated with the production is required to be vaccinated against Covid-19, including all people auditioning. Please bring your vaccination record with you to auditions, or email an image of it to tdw.homebrew@gmail.com.

There are a variety of roles for actors of all genders and ages, teenager and above. It’s possible for an actor to be cast in more than one play (up to three), depending on rehearsal schedule availability.

Note: For the first time ever, there is a short musical as part of Home Brew!! Musical auditions are separate. See below.

You may audition in person or via video submission.

There are 10 directors for the 10 short plays. Auditions will be in front of a panel of the directors, and will be recorded on video for directors who can’t be present. Auditions will consist of readings from selected Home Brew scripts. Please use the SignUp Genius to pick a slot so we don’t overcrowd the space. (15 slots per hour)

Once signed up you will receive a link to the full scripts, and to the selected audition sides. You will also receive an audition form to fill out.

IN PERSON MUSICAL AUDITIONS

Musical Auditions at The Glenmore Playhouse

Dates & Times:

  • Sunday 10/24. 6-6:45pm
  • Monday 10/25. 6-6:45pm

Pick a slot in the SignupGenius (link above) for the musical auditions as well. If planning to audition for plays and the musical, please secure a timeslot for each. The musical has three teen female roles: Sop1, Sop2, and Alto. Please be prepared to do a cold reading from the script and bring 32 bars of sheet music for a song that shows your range and voice quality. An accompanist will be provided.

VIDEO AUDITIONS. If you can’t attend in-person auditions, you are encouraged to submit a video audition instead. Video auditions should consist of 2 short monologues, which you can select from the material at this location:

Be sure to start your video with a “slate” which includes your name and “Home Brew Five audition.” The two monologues can be on two separate videos.

If you are submitting an audition via video for the short musical “Puddle Jumpers”, please submit the above monologues videos as well a separate musical audition. For the musical audition, slate your video with your name, vocal range, (Soprano 1, Soprano 2, Alto, etc). Perform 32 bars of a vocal selection with accompaniment.

Please submit your video(s) by emailing the file or a link to the video to tdw.homebrew@gmail.com with the subject “Home Brew Video Audition”. (Video submissions are not required if you plan to attend in-person auditions.) Video submission deadline is 10/25/21.

FIRST KISS by Betsy Bossart.
Directed by Stephanie Klein.

3 Roles: ALEX: Male Teenager; KAYLA: Female teenager; SIGN-CARRIER: Any age/gender. Carries signs across stage.

GATE EXPECTATIONS by Chris Bishop.
Directed by Jeff Nieman.

3 Roles. J.J.: Man, Mid-50s. GATEKEEPER: Male or Female Any Age. GABRIEL: Male or Female any age.

HEART CONDITION by Eric Thomas.
Directed by Judy Berrens.

4 roles. DANA. LEE. CHRIS. ROBIN. No gender or age is specified for any character.

MADAME MISTY by Megan Ann Jacobs.
Directed by Trisha Cooper.

4 Roles. MADAME MISTY: A quick-thinking woman with a secret. JUSIN: A Skeptic, Rachel’s boyfriend. RACHEL: someone desperate to save her relationship, Justin’s girlfriend. MADAME MIST: A psychic.

2 roles. TOM: Male. 20s-30s. ROBERT: Tom’s brother. Male 20s-30s.

THE MILE HIGH CLUB by Arny Stoller.
Directed by Amy Eyers.

3 roles. ANNETTE: Woman. Appropriate age to have a teenage son. BOB: Man. Married to Annette. Appropriate age to have a teenage son. ROBBIE: Teenager. (Offstage telephone voice.)

THE SURPRISE ENGAGEMENT by Christine Charlson.
Directed by Greg Hatfield.

5 roles. TAMMY: Woman, 20s. JADE: Woman,30s-50s. PAM: Woman, 30s. ROB Man 30s-50s. DONNY: Man, 20s.

ZOMBIES ARE TAKING OUR JOBS by Micheal Hickerson.
Directed by Rose Vanden Eynden.

Six Roles, two of which have been precast. Remaining: GREG: Man, 50s. ANDREA: Woman, 40s. RICK: Man, 30s. JOHN: Zombie man, 40s. 

PUDDLE JUMPERS a musical by Fred Tacon.
Directed by Lynne Aronson.

Short Musical featuring three teen girls ages 13-15 years old. Three roles. HOLLY, brainy, into science and math. Socially awkward-Sop. 2; BECCA, Fashionista, popular and having a very bad morning-Sop. 1.; ZITH, gamer, into D&D, Pokemon and video games. Friendly and hyperactive-Alto.

GENERAL NOTES If cast, each actor will be required to become a member of The Drama Workshop ($20 individual membership), and to sign a code of conduct agreement. 

TDW ANNEX LOCATION: The front door is at 3619 Harrison Ave. However please enter the back door. It’s best to park in the old Cappel’s lot at 3640 Gamble Ave. Please enter the rear of the TDW Annex building (entrance is at the rear right side of the parking lot).

MAKING GOD LAUGH by Sean Grennan

MAKING GOD LAUGH follows a suburban family of five (Bill, Ruthie and their three children) as they celebrate holidays over the course of thirty years, beginning with Thanksgiving in 1983. As the years change, so do the holidays depicted and the children’s life plans reshape over time, ending in unexpected destinations.

Cast Announced for ALL TOGETHER NOW at The Drama Workshop

Actor Needed for Role of Richard in MAKING GOD LAUGH at The Drama Workshop

TDW_VERTDirector Mike Morehead is in need of a male actor for the role of Richard in MAKING GOD LAUGH at the Drama Workshop.

Playing age from mid 20s to mid 40s.  Character ages 30 years during the course of the play. Rehearsals begin on Sept 7th. Performances on December 3rd.
