The Carnegie Announces Auditions for THE WIZARD OF OZ!

TC_Wizard LogoWe’re off to see THE WIZARD OF OZ at The Carnegie! Add alittle fantasy and adventure to those gray January days with a trip to the Emerald City to see Dorothy, Toto and the rest of the colorful residents of Oz. Imaginatively reproduced for The Carnegie stage, and impeccably accompanied by The Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, this classic tale is sure to delight fans both old and young.

Based on the hit MGM film, THE WIZARD OF OZ brings out the childin all of us with songs like “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” and “We’re Off toSee the Wizard.” Directed by Matt Wilson. Music Direction by J.R. Cassidy. Choreography by Maggie Perrino. Featuring The Kentucky Symphony Orchestra.

Performances January 21-24, 28-31, 2016
Thursday, Friday & Saturday Evenings at 7:30pm
Saturdays at 2:00pm; Sundays at 3:00pm

Rehearsals evenings and weekends December 28th-January 20th.

Auditions by Appointment on October 4th 1pm-5pm or October 5th 6-9pm. To schedule a time slot,please contact Jessica Picado, jpicado@thecarnegie.com

Children wishing to audition will be seen during the 1pm time slot on the Oct. 4th and the 6pm time slot on Oct. 5th.

What to Prepare:

  • Please prepare 16-32 bars of a musical theatre song in the style of the show- An accompanist will be provided. Please bring sheet music in the correct key. Acappella auditions, or those with pre-recorded accompaniment, will not be considered.
  • There will be a short movement audition so please dress appropriately.
  • You may also be asked to read from the script.
  • Resume listing theatrical experience and headshot/picture are required to audition. Please bring with you to the audition, do not send in advance.
  • Cast members do not have to be the actual ages of the characters, but must be able to look age appropriate and act accordingly.

  • Emerald City Guard (doubles as Uncle Henry/Henry Gale)
  • Miss Almira Gulch (doubles as Wicked Witch of the West) – Non-singing role.
  • Professor Chester Marvel (doubles as Wizard of Oz)- Non-singing role.
  • 4 Adult Ensemble members- playing Ozians,Winkies, and various featured roles throughout. Must be strong singers/dancer.
  • 8 Youth Ensemble members- playing munchkins,flying monkeys, jitterbugs. Must be confident singers and move well. Must beable to read from the script. Ideally aged 10 -13 years old.

Robert is single, but all of his friends are married. He envies their love and companionship, but can’t seem to part with his bachelor ways. On his 35th birthday, they surprise him with a cake and a birthday wish that will leave him pondering the life he’s chosen. Full of lively, idiosyncratic characters, in addition to some of Sondheim’s best known songs, COMPANY is a rollicking and reflective send up of the modern relationship. Both poignant and funny, anyone who’s been in love can find a little of themselves in this contemporary Broadway classic.

Music Teacher Sought by The Carnegie

Position Purpose
The In-School Music Instructor is responsible for implementing music instruction offered by the Carnegie during school hours. This includes, but is not limited to, creating and teaching music lessons designed to reinforce curriculum to children enrolled in kindergarten through 5th grade in the Covington Independent schools, preparing and gathering necessary supplies, researching curriculum information, writing supplemental music lessons for classroom teachers to teach when the Carnegie is not present, documenting and evaluating program, attending meetings and providing professional development for school staff, and spending the time necessary to assure that programs are successfully completed.

Essential Functions and Basic Duties

  1. Develop lessons
    1. Write music lessons designed to reinforce curriculum and the elements of music
    2. Write supplemental music lessons aligned with other content areas (social studies, math, science, etc.) for classroom teachers to instruct
  2. Prepare for and teach agreed upon hours
    1. Gather supplies for classes
    2. Perform any necessary prep tasks
    3. Be prepared at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the class
    4. Instruct classes (along side the classroom teachers) keeping in mind the mission of The Carnegie’s Education Department
      1. Provide opportunities for the discovery and enhancement of creativity
      2. Reinforce curriculum
      3. Provide varied materials and experiences
      4. Ensure open ended processes
      5. Collaborative work when possible
    5. Clean up and re-organize
  3. Attend Meetings and Trainings
    1. Provide professional development and assessment for classroom teachers prior to each 5 week session
    2. Attend principal meetings
    3. Attend Champs Training for Covington Independent Schools
    4. Attend Carnegie Education Staff meetings
  4. Document programming through written assessment
    1. Provide descriptions and summaries of daily classwork
    2. Provide observations and informal assessments of students progress
    3. Report anecdotes
    4. Assist with the curriculum review process
  5. Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

  • College degree in music, education or related field preferred.
  • Teaching Certification preferred, but not required.

Requirements:

  • Teaching Experience and/or previous work with children
  • Student assessment skills
  • Classroom management skills
  • Experience with writing curriculum
  • Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and proof of insurance

Skills/Abilities desired:

  • Active and dynamic teacher
  • Excellent ability to engage and support children
  • Ability to organize, coordinate and direct multiple projects
  • Self-starter and willingness to be a team player

Hours: Approx. 30 hours per week during the school year (40 weeks)

Cast Announced for SLEUTH at The Carnegie

In SLEUTH, famous mystery writer, Anthony Wyke, loves to play games. But when he finds out his wife plans to leave him for a young travel agent, he plots a game with murderous consequences. Of course, in a mystery, things are never quite as they seem and games can quickly get out of hand. A fast-paced comedy full of deception and mistaken identities, SLEUTH is a who-dun-it that will keep you riveted in your seat from start to finish.
