STEEL MAGNOLIAS runs March 8-April 1

STEEL MAGNOLIAS
Presented by the Covedale Center for the Performing Arts
March 8-April 1
West Price Hill

Welcome to Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle, the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoo and free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon, Ouiser, an eccentric millionaire; Miss Clairee, who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local social leader, M’Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby is about to marry a “good ole boy.” Filled with hilarious repartee and not a few revealing verbal collisions, the play invokes knowing laughter and certain tears when the spunky Shelby risks her life for a child of her own. The realization of mortality affects the others, but also draws on the underlying strength—and love – in these uniquely American women.

Directed by Elizabeth Harris

Cast: Mindy Heithaus as Truvy Jones, Allison Husko as Annelle Dupuy-Desoto, Burgess Byrd as Clairee Belcher, Sarah Fischer as Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie, Julia Hasl Miller as M’Lynn Eatenton & Christine Dye as Ouiser Boudreaux

(CINCINNATI, FEB. 1, 2012)– The League of Cincinnati Theatres (LCT) has awarded Covedale Center for the Performing Arts’ production of THE CAINE MUTINY COURT-MARTIALl with two performance awards. Jeff Groh was singled out for his role as Lt. Barry Greenwald, while the entire ensemble also was recognized for their contributions to the show.

Based on his own Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, Herman Wouk’s CAINE MUTINY COURT-MARTIAL tells the story of a young World War II Naval lieutenant accused of mutiny. In the midst of a typhoon, he relieved his ship’s captain of command under the belief that the man’s erratic and paranoid behavior placed the crew in grave danger.

As the trial’s reluctant defense attorney, Groh earned his award as leading actor in a play. LCT panelists described his performance as outstanding. “His performance … rose to the top of the ensemble in its professionalism,” said one panelist.

The rest of the show’s ensemble similarly was recognized, described as being “particularly strong, as each person taking the stand brought something memorable.” The cast includes Brandon Wentz, Mackenzie Durham Smith, Justin Baldwin, Bob Allen, Brett Bowling, Patrick Phillips, Mike Sherman, Joe Jones, Mike Dennis, Jim Stump, Dave Woellert, Mike Nalley, Rob Bucher, Henry Farfsing, Tom Durkin and Jeff Tuttle.

The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial continues through Feb. 19. Ticket information is available at http://www.cincinnatilandmarkproductions.com.

The League of Cincinnati Theatres was founded in 1999 to strengthen, nurture and promote Cincinnati’s theatre community. LCT provides its member companies and individual members with education, resources and services to enhance the quality and exposure of the theatre community in Cincinnati and increase community awareness, attendance and involvement.
