The reckless Swann is in town to do a live guest appearance on the show and his antics and alcoholism nearly get Benjy fired. When Benjy is given an unexpected glimpse into Swann’s broken heart, though, he begins to discover a thing or two about life and love.

Auditions Announced for THE MUSICAL OF MUSICALS THE MUSICAL at Cincinnati Music Theatre

CMTCincinnati Music Theatre announces auditions for their Studio Theatre Series production of THE MUSICAL OF MUSICALS THE MUSICAL

A musical tribute to, and loving spoof of, the composing styles and shows of Rodgers and Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Jerry Herman, Kander and Ebb, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and musical theatre in general.

Directed by Dennis Murphy

  • Saturday, November 3, 1:00-4:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, November 4, 7:00-10:00 p.m.

Clifton United Methodist Church
3416 Clifton Avenue (just north of Clifton and Ludlow)

The cast calls for 2 men and 2 women performers and an ensemble of 4 voices. The performers in The Musical of Musicals are presenting not one, but five, 15-minute musicals. Each musical uses the same plotline which is based on the standard melodrama plot of a villainous landlord threatening a helpless maiden who can’t pay her rent until the handsome hero steps in and pays it for her.  In all five musicals, the soprano is always the heroine, the tenor is always the hero, the baritone is always the villain and the mezzo is always the character actress.  The mini-musicals are each written “in the style of “ Rogers and Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Jerry Herman, Andrew Lloyd Weber and Kander and Ebb.  The characters in each musical are drawn from all of the composer’s shows.

In addition to the four main roles, there is an opportunity to use 2 men and 2 woman to join in the fun as Dream Ballet dancers, wedding guests, roller skaters, Kit Kat Klub girls and more. All of the performers must be versatile actors who can play a variety of characters, sing and dance in the style of each of the composing teams.  It is helpful if they also have a broad knowledge of the works of each of the composers. Age is not as important as being able to capture a sense of each character and knowing what makes the character funny.

To sign up for an audition slot and to download required forms, visit https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b054fa5a92fa5f49-audition.

Performance dates are Feb. 8-16.
