Come Have a Pint With the Cast and Crew of Falcon’s THE LION IN WINTER

St. Paddy’s Day might have been last week, but you can still celebrate the Luck o’ the Irish (well…English, actually) by having a wee bit more than a pint this Friday with the cast and crew of Falcon’s Theatre’s production of The Lion in Winter!

Immediately following this week’s opening performance, patrons are invited to Wooden Cask Brewing Company, 629 York Street in Newport, to enjoy a beverage and to mingle with the production’s actors and crew and with fellow theatergoers. Wooden Cask is approximately a two-minute walk from Falcon’s stage door.

The Lion in Winter is playwright James Goldman’s deliciously wicked accounting of the love-hate travails between England’s King Henry II and his wife, Eleanor of Aquitaine, and the accompanying power struggle to name the next heir to the English throne. Comedic in tone, darkly dramatic in action, and filled to overflowing with Goldman’s razor-sharp wit and dialogue, the play has been an audience favorite for more than fifty years.

Although the events depicted in the play took place in the Middle Ages, Falcon director Tara Williams has moved the story to 2019 to present the universal and timeless themes of marital jealousy, sibling rivalry, and the struggle for political power and control..

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch calls Lion “satisfying, well-seasoned, and wonderfully witty…perfect fare for a cold winter’s night.” The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says “if you like your humor with a dose of malice, there’s plenty of bite to (this play’s) bark.”

The Falcon production features Allen R. Middleton as Henry, Tracy M. Schoster as Eleanor, Greg Mallios as Richard, Jared Earland as Geoffrey, Clay Winstead as John, Lexi Rigsby as Alais, and Dan Robertson as Philip.

Performances are at 8 PM on March 22, 23, 28, 29, and 30, and on April 4, 5, and 6, 2019. Ticket prices are $25 for adults and $15 for students with ID. Patrons enjoy a $5 discount for Thursday performances. Visit falcontheater.net for tickets.

Cincinnati Shakespeare Company to Present Shakespeare’s Infamous Tragedy, MACBETH

Cincinnati, March 15, 2019 – Cincinnati Shakespeare Company continues its 25th Anniversary Season at The Otto M. Budig Theater with William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. The production is directed by Cincinnati Shakespeare Company’s Associate Artist Miranda McGee and features a 21 person cast featuring CSC Resident Ensemble Members Giles Davies as Macbeth, Kelly Mengelkoch as Lady Macbeth, Grant Niezgodski as Macduff, and Justin McCombs as Banquo. Macbeth is generously sponsored by Kelley & David Downing, Judge (Ret.) Mark P. Painter & Sue Ann Painter, the Pete Strange Family, as well as PNC Bank and Taft Law.

CSC is very pleased to have Miranda McGee as our director for Macbeth. Ms. McGee is originally from Australia and credits her love of all things horror, including her favorite of Shakespeare’s plays,Macbeth, to her favorite author, Stephen King. Ms. McGee has worked regionally with The Howmet Playhouse, PMD Productions, Essential Theatre, Long Wharf Theatre and The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey. Locally, she has worked with Know Theatre, The Carnegie, The Covedale, Clifton Performance Theatre, Madcap Puppets, OTRImprov, and as adjunct faculty at Xavier University. Ms. McGee is celebrating a decade with Cincinnati Shakespeare Company this year, and some of her favorite CSC roles include Emilia (Othello), Lucy (Dracula), Beatrice (Much Ado), The Gaoler’s Daughter (Two Noble Kinsmen) and her teaching roles with Cincy Shakes’ Education Programs PROJECT38 and Groundlings Junior. Macbeth will be her mainstage directorial debut after successfully directing FREE Shakespeare in the Park productions over the past few summers.

Cincinnati Shakespeare Company’s production of Macbeth is set in Scotland between the years 1644 and 1645 with timeless elements of horror and supernatural when the witches are present. When the noble Scottish Lord Macbeth sees a path to power open up before him, he is determined to trod that path to its bloody end, consequences (and maybe himself) be damned. With his ruthless wife at his side, the two plot a Machiavellian course to put and to keep Macbeth on the Scottish throne. Shakespeare’s heart-pounding thrill ride of a play is a harrowing exploration of ambition, morality, tyranny and corruption.

The creative team is made up of Justen Locke (Scenic and Lighting Designer), Douglas J. Borntrager (Sound and Video Designer), Cal Harris (Video Content Creator), Darnell Pierre Benjamin (Movement Coach), and Rainy Edwards (Costume Designer). They are joined by Fight Choreographer, Gina Cerimele-Mechley.

Macbeth runs April 5-May 4, 2019 with performances on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 PM and Sundays at 2:00 PM, as well as Saturday April 20th, and May 4th at 2:00 PM.  Preview performances are Wednesday, April 3rd and Thursday, April 4th at 7:30 PM and tickets are $30.  Advance sale single ticket prices start at $28.  Day-of Student Rush tickets are $14 and may be purchased thirty minutes before a show with a valid student ID if available. Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati’s Producing Artistic Director D. Lynn Meyers Receives The Sachs Fund Prize

(Cincinnati, OH) Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati’s Producing Artistic Director D. Lynn Meyers is being honored by ArtsWave with the 2018 Rosa F. and Samuel B. Sachs Fund Prize for her regional arts impact and leadership. The Rosa F. and Samuel B. Sachs Fund Prize recognizes individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the cultural life of Cincinnati, bringing distinction to themselves and the region through their work.

First awarded in 1929, this prestigious award was endowed to ArtsWave by the late Samuel B. Sachs to honor outstanding accomplishments in the arts — inclusive of visual arts, music, theatre, dance, literature, sculpture and architecture. Previous recipients include Zaha Hadid, Leah Stewart, Phyllis Weston, Stephen Sondheim, Shepard Fairey, James Conlon, Kathy Wilson, Jim Borgman and Jay Chatterjee.

The Sachs Fund Prize Committee, led by ArtsWave Life Trustee Richard Rosenthal, decided early on not to make this a competitive process with a call for nominations and/or applications. Rather, using the MacArthur Foundation’s “genius grants” as a model, ArtsWave assembles a group of this region’s most knowledgeable leaders in the areas of theater, music, dance, architecture, visual arts, photography, and literature to select the individual who, in their combined estimation, best meets the criteria for this award.

“It’s something I never would have thought possible,” says D. Lynn Meyers. “I received a voicemail from Dick Rosenthal telling me that I’d won and I was so stunned that I listened to it three times! I am beyond humbled, honored, and extremely grateful.”

Lowe released his memoir, Stories I Only Tell My Friends, in 2011. Lowe’s second book, Love Life, was published in 2014 and also landed a spot on The New York Times best-seller list. “I decided to put what would be the third book into a show where I could go out directly to an audience and share and have an exchange with them directly,” he says. “Frankly, I love meeting people, being out in front of them, hearing their comments. It’s really fun,” says Lowe.

ABOUT ROB LOWE
Rob Lowe’s iconic career spans four decades in film, television, and theater. He is also an acclaimed author. Rob has been nominated for two Emmys, six Golden Globes, and four Screen Actors Guild Awards, of which he won two. He has starred in the ‘80s classics St. Elmo’s Fire, About Last Night, and The Outsiders, as well as television classics such as The West Wing and Parks and Recreation. Rob’s incredibly diverse career also includes scene-stealing work in Behind the Candelabra, Austin Powers, and Tommy Boy.  Rob just wrapped Christmas in the Wild for Netflix with Kristen Davis and was recently seen in and directed a remake of the four-time Academy Award-nominated film, The Bad Seed.
