Give the gift of experiences this year with the award-winning musical comedy

CINCINNATI–Due to popular demand, 2 PIANOS, 4 HANDSstaged in the round at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, has been extended to Jan. 12, 2020. Tickets to the added performances are on sale now. The additional shows are Friday, Jan. 10, 8 p.m.; Saturday, Jan. 11, 4 and 8 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 12, 2 p.m. More shows could be added as needed.

“Audiences love the entertaining combination of comedy and music,” Artistic Director Blake Robison explained. “Add to that a truly relatable story and the incredible talent of our two actor/musicians Matthew McGloin and Jefferson McDonald, and you can see why tickets have been selling quickly.”

The show, which has been called “tears-streaming-down-your-face-funny” by the Ottawa Sun, tells the story of playwrights and performers Ted Dykstra and Richard Greenblatt, who shared a childhood dream of growing up to be superstar concert pianists. In the two-person show, we meet semi-autobiographical characters Ted and Richard. In a series of short, rapid-fire scenes, Ted and Richard transform into parents, teachers, coaches and even themselves at various ages. Memories of their music careers come to life onstage, from touching arguments with Richard’s father (who once fancied himself a bit of a pianist as well) to side-splitting glimpses of the characters that helped instruct Ted and Richard at the piano.

At the heart of this production is two men with comedic chemistry telling the story of all our childhood dreams of being a movie star, astronaut, or NFL-quarterback. The musicians bring relatable nostalgia to life as they work to master everything from Bach and Beethoven to Billy Joel.

“Part of what makes 2 PIANOS, 4 HANDS so enduring is that in addition to being incredibly entertaining, audiences see themselves in it whether or not they ever wanted to play the piano,” says Tom Frey, who serves as both director and music director for Playhouse’s production.

2 PIANOS, 4 HANDS has been produced on five continents in over 4,000 productions during its 24-year history. The production inspires audiences to think about their passions and reminds us all not to give up on our dreams.

“As a director, I love to watch the audience take in a play and see what seems to resonate with them,” says Frey. “2 PIANOS, 4 HANDS delivers more moments of connection than almost any play I’ve worked on.”

A beloved musical about a plucky orphan, determined to find a family

CINCINNATI:  The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati is pleased to present ANNIE JR. at the Taft Theatre February 29-March 9, 2020.

Leapin’ Lizards! America’s most charming orphan is back and spunkier than ever! With equal measures of pluck and positivity, Annie charms everyone’s hearts, despite a next-to-nothing start in the “hoovervilles” of 1930s New York. She is determined to find her parents, who abandoned her eleven years ago on the doorstep of an orphanage run by the callous Miss Hannigan. With the help the other girls in the orphanage, Annie sings and dances her way through an unforgettable Big Apple adventure, finding a new family along the way.

Book by Thomas Meehan, music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin, presented on Broadway by Mike Nichols, originally produced by Irwin Meyer, Stephen R. Friedman, Lewis Allen, Alvin Nederlander Associates, Inc., The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Icarus Productions. Based on “Little Orphan Annie”® by permission of The Tribune Content Agency, LLC.  The show will be directed and choreographed by Eric Byrd, Associate Artistic Director of The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati.

  • Sunday, March 1 at 2 PM and 5 PM
  • Friday, March 6 at 7:30 PM
  • Saturday, March 7 at 2 PM and 5 PM
  • Sunday, March 8 at 11 AM (Sensory-Friendly performance) and 2 PM

Cincinnati, OH — Carol Burnett, award-winning actress and best-selling author, is widely recognized by the public and her peers for her work on stage and screen, most notably The Carol Burnett Show. The legendary actress and comedienne brings her one-woman show, An Evening of Laughter and Reflection Where the Audience Asks the Questions to the Aronoff Center’s Procter & Gamble Hall on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at 7:30 PM. DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND, AN ADDITONAL PERFORMANCE HAS BEEN ADDED ON MONDAY, MAY 4, 2020 AT 7:30 PM.

Tickets for the added May 4 performance go on sale Friday, January 10 at 10:00 AM at CincinnatiArts.org, (513) 621-ARTS [2787], and the Aronoff Center Ticket Office.  The previously announced May 5 performance is currently on sale with limited availability.

Named in 2007 by TIME magazine as one of the “100 Best Television Shows of All Time,” The Carol Burnett Show ran for 11 years, averaged 30 million viewers per week, and received 25 Emmy Awards, making it one of the most honored shows in television history. But it is Ms. Burnett’s artistic brilliance, her respect and appreciation of her fans, and her graciousness, integrity, warmth, and humor on and off screen that have made her one of the most beloved performers in entertainment, and one of the most admired women in America.

During An Evening of Laughter and Reflection, Burnett will take questions from the audience and show video clips from her shows in a format that harkens back to the legendary openings of The Carol Burnett Show, where her studio audience had an unfiltered opportunity to engage Carol with questions and receive spontaneous answers.  “I love the spontaneity of these evenings,” said Carol. “I never know what anyone is going to ask, or say, or do, so it keeps me on my toes!”

As a highly-acclaimed actress, Ms. Burnett has been honored with Emmys, Golden Globes, People’s Choice Awards, the Horatio Alger Award, an Ace Award, and the Peabody. A Kennedy Center Honoree, she has also been honored with the Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for Humor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame, and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
