High-Flying Circus Acts Meet the High-Energy Swing Band at KSO’s SWINGIN’ CIRQUE REVUE

7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 2020
Tower Park Amphitheatre, Fort Thomas, KY

A high-energy Swing Revival band provides high-octane music for high-flying circus acts, performing safely outdoors for free. Prepare to mask-up for this weekend’s SWINGIN’ CIRQUE REVUE in Tower Park. The KSO and City of Fort Thomas will be following Kentucky “Healthy at Work” requirements as musicians and audiences safely return to distanced and safe outdoor activities. Sanitizer will be available and distancing reminders will abound.

The KSO’s Devou-Doo Daddies is a 10-pc group that covers the hits and sounds of 1990s swing revival bands — Royal Crown Revue, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, The Squirrel Nut Zippers, The Cherry Poppin’ Daddies and more. Circus Mojo is based at the Ludlow (KY) Theater to mentor youth in the circus arts and brings together circus acts and performers from across the globe to teach and entertain. The KSO and Circus Mojo have teamed up in the past for hi-jinx and great music. “In these crazy times we decided to scale down the forces and ramp up the energy,” KSO music director James Cassidy enthusiastically announced.

The KSO’s four active subsidiary groups allow the orchestra to add area jazz, studio players and vocalists to the orchestra’s talented roster of musicians to authentically perform varied genres of jazz, fusion and pop across nearly six generations (1898-2020). The Devou-Doo Daddies came about after we put the group together to play a set at our “Jump Jive and Wail” Gala in 2015. It was simply too much fun, so we just kept adding charts and dates, remarked Cassidy.

CGO (Chief Goof Officer) Paul Miller is the mojo in Circus Mojo. A former
Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus clown for 6 years, Paul is plugged into circus acts and entertainers throughout the world. “Ten years ago the KSO helped us launch and introduce Circus Mojo to the community. Since then we’ve been fortunate to bring circus artists from 35 countries and 6 continents to Ludlow,” chortled Pauly the Clown.

Audiences will enjoy many acts backed up by the Daddies, including Dizzy Lizzy of the National Circus Institute of Australia, dancer/unicyclist extraordinaire Eddie Moffit, Ft. Thomas’s own juggler Damien Berkheimer and from Chicago, the international trapeze artists Duo Rose.

The KSO appreciates the generous support of the following local corporate sponsors: St. Elizabeth Health Care, Duke Energy, Bircus Beer, The Milburn Family and the Wohlgemuth-Herschede Foundations, and the City of Fort Thomas for hosting the KSO’s 2020 free series of family-friendly and safe summer programs. Seniors and others who wish to avoid even distanced crowds are invited to attend the Saturday 10:30 a.m. dress rehearsal at Tower Park. Others can join the program streamed live at 7:30 on Facebook Live.

Join the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra Saturday at 7:30 p.m. — July 11 at Tower Park in Fort Thomas. Food trucks will be on-site. Bring blankets, picnics or lawn chairs. For more information, registration and directions, visit the KSO at www.kyso.org or call (859) 431-6216. $5 (per person) suggested donation. Free parking in Tower Park (though it is
limited).

Tickets for FEAST. Opening Aug. 7 at Know Theatre Are Now Available

KTC_Feast promoKnow is giving you two different ways to experience this bespoke online production.

Option one: just a ticket, no frills, that gets you access to the performance date of your choice.

Option two: you can purchase a ticket with a … let’s call it “a special party favor” that we’ll ship to the address you enter when you purchase your ticket. It will add a special interactive element to your evening with your hostess (she’ll tell you when and how to open it up).

To keep our Welcome Wednesday spirit alive, we’re still offering discounted tickets (both with and without the party favor add-on) for the Wednesday performance dates, and we’ll also have a very limited number of free Welcome Wednesday tickets, available one hour before Wednesday performances, just like always. (Due to the tight timing of the free Welcome Wednesday tickets, we are not able to offer the party favor option on the free tickets.)

Performances begin at 8 PM on the performance date, and the footage will be available to you for the following 24 hours, in case of sudden internet outages or similar inconveniences.

If you missed last week’s cast announcement of FEAST., you can check it out here.

Announcing Two-Week Run of HAMILTON for ‘21-‘22, New Lineup for ’20-’21 Premier Health Broadway in Dayton

Including DEAR EVAN HANSEN

DL_Hamilton

Elijah Malcomb, Joseph Morales, Kyle Scatliffe, Fergie L. Philippe and Cast. Joan Marcus 2018.

(July 8, 2020) – Dayton Live is pleased to announce it will welcome the first Dayton engagement of HAMILTON to the Benjamin & Marian Schuster Performing Arts Center in the 2021-2022 Season. In addition, Dayton Live announces a new lineup for the upcoming 2020-2021 Premier Health Broadway in Dayton Season. Due to closures and restrictions from the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020-2021 season will be delayed, launching in January 2021 with slightly revised programming.

“We’re thrilled to announce HAMILTON’s premiere engagement in Dayton,” said Ty Sutton, President & CEO of Dayton Live (formerly Victoria Theatre Association), the nonprofit arts organization that presents the Premier Health Broadway in Dayton Series at the Schuster Center. “We’ve been working to confirm dates for this incredible theatrical powerhouse since 2018. In fact, the question I get more often than any other is when will HAMILTON be here? Now we can officially confirm: HAMILTON is coming to Dayton.”

HAMILTON is the story of America then, told by America now. Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B and Broadway, HAMILTON has taken the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton and created a revolutionary moment in theatre—a musical that has had a profound impact on culture, politics, and education. With book, music, and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, direction by Thomas Kail, choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler, and musical supervision and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire, HAMILTON is based on Ron Chernow’s acclaimed biography. It has won Tony®, Grammy®, and Olivier Awards, the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and an unprecedented special citation from the Kennedy Center Honors.

HAMILTON will play two weeks of performances (16 shows) in 2022 at the Benjamin & Marian Schuster Performing Arts Center. On-sale dates for single tickets and group tickets will be announced at a later date. The best way to guarantee access to tickets for the limited engagement is to purchase Season Tickets for the full 2020-2021 Premier Health Broadway in Dayton lineup, which will begin in January 2021, and renew your Season Tickets for 2021-2022 when the time comes. Premier Health Broadway in Dayton Season Ticket Holders will have access to HAMILTON tickets before they are available to the general public. Visit daytonlive.org/hamilton-faq for answers to frequently asked questions.

A REVISED PREMIER Health Broadway in Dayton season

“The shutdown of Broadway in New York City has had a wide-reaching effect on performing arts centers and Broadway presenters around the country,” Sutton said. “In addition to not having a clear picture when our venues will be open again, nearly all Broadway tours have closed at least temporarily and are not going to be playing in the fall. This necessitated a great deal of juggling on everyone’s part and I’m happy to say we retained most of our season, and also were able add a huge Broadway hit – and one of my favorite titles – DEAR EVAN HANSEN.”

The winner of six 2017 Tony Awards®, including Best Musical, Dear Evan Hansen features a book by Tony Award® winner Steven Levenson, a score by Grammy®, Tony® and Academy Award® winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (La La Land, The Greatest Showman), and direction by four-time Tony Award® nominee Michael Greif (Rent, Next to Normal).

Declared “One of the most remarkable shows in musical theater history” by the Washington Post’s Peter Marks, Dear Evan Hansen opened at the Music Box Theatre to rave reviews on December 4, 2016. There, it has broken all box office records and struck a chord with audiences and critics alike, including New York Times critic Jesse Green, who, in his May 2019 re-review of the show, declared it “more and more ingenious with each viewing. It is more hopeful than ever.”

The Grammy Award®-winning Original Broadway Cast Recording of Dear Evan Hansen, produced by Atlantic Records, was released in February 2017, making an extraordinary debut on the Billboard 200 and entering the chart at #8 – the highest charting debut position for an original cast album since 1961 – and went on to win the 2018 Grammy Award® for Best Musical Theatre Album. A deluxe version of the cast recording, including six bonus tracks and a pop cover from Katy Perry of “Waving through a Window” is now available digitally.

In addition to winning six 2017 Tony Awards® and a 2018 Grammy Award®, Dear Evan Hansen has won numerous other awards, including the 2017 Drama League Award for Outstanding Musical Production and for the off-Broadway production, two Obie Awards, a Drama Desk Award, and two Outer Critics Circle Awards and two Helen Hayes Awards. Dear Evan Hansen is also the winner of the Broadway.com Audience Choice Awards three years running, and was just proclaimed the Best Long-Running Show and the Best Touring Production in the 2019 Broadway.com Audience Choice Awards.

Dear Evan Hansen, produced by Stacey Mindich, features scenic design by David Korins, projection design by Peter Nigrini, costume design by Emily Rebholz, lighting design by Japhy Weideman, sound design by Nevin Steinberg, and hair design by David Brian Brown. Music supervision, orchestrations and additional arrangements are by Alex Lacamoire. Ben Cohn is the Associate Music Supervisor. Vocal arrangements and additional arrangements are by Justin Paul. Danny Mefford is the choreographer.

Casting by Tara Rubin Casting/Xavier Rubiano. Sash Bischoff, Adam Quinn and Danny Sharron are the Associate Directors. Judith Schoenfeld is the Production Supervisor. US General Management 101 Productions.

Here is the complete lineup for the 2020-2021 Premier Health Broadway in Dayton Season:

A letter that was never meant to be seen, a lie that was never meant to be told, a life he never dreamed he could have. Evan Hansen is about to get the one thing he’s always wanted: a chance to finally fit in. DEAR EVAN HANSEN is the deeply personal and profoundly contemporary musical about life and the way we live it. DEAR EVAN HANSEN has struck a remarkable chord with audiences and critics everywhere, including The Washington Post who says DEAR EVAN HANSEN is “one of the most remarkable shows in musical theatre history.” The New York Times calls it “a gut-punching, breathtaking knockout of a musical.” And “NBC Nightly News” declares the musical “an anthem resonating on Broadway and beyond.” DEAR EVAN HANSEN features a book by Tony Award® winner Steven Levenson, a score by Grammy®, Tony® and Academy Award® winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (La La Land, The Greatest Showman), and direction by four-time Tony Award® nominee Michael Greif (Rent, Next to Normal).

DAYTON LIVE COVID-19 TICKET GUARANTEE

Arts patrons all over the nation and beyond are concerned about how and when performances will again take place.

“We are eager for our venues to reopen and welcome you to life-inspiring performances,” explained Sutton.  “But we want each of our patrons to feel safe and comfortable attending performances in our fabulous venues. Rest assured, we will be doing everything in our power to make your experience with our venues feel positive and safe, from extended cleaning regimens to observation of all state and federal guidelines. As these recommendations and requirements become clear, we will communicate them to you.”

To this end, Dayton Live has issued a COVID-19 Ticket Guarantee. If, once Dayton Live’s venues are open and performances are again filling the calendar, a patron feels COVID-19 conditions make it unsafe to attend a performance/event, they’ll have several options starting 30 days before your performance. For more details on this ticket guarantee, go to daytonlive.org/ticket-guarantee.

This COVID-19 Ticket Guarantee applies to performances/events presented by Dayton Live or its nonprofit resident companies. Some events presented by licensees renting Dayton Live facilities may not be covered or might have additional restrictions. The guarantee is available to the original ticket buyer who purchased directly from DaytonLive.org or our former ticketing site, TicketCenterStage.com. Tickets purchased from resellers are not covered.

trueSUFFRAGE From trueTHEATRE Going Online July 23rd

TRUE_logoFriends,

We sincerely hope all of you are safe and healthy and your friends and loved ones are, as well. Our Board Members and volunteers at True Theatre are healthy and getting by and looking forward to sharing some more stories with you!

Status of our next main-stage show:

While we seem to be on the precipice of some events being held “in-person” again (with social-distancing and other precautions in place), there has also been a lot of news about cases of COVID-19 spiking (particularly in Hamilton County). It is for your (and our and our storytellers) comfort and safety that we have opted  to hold our next show, trueSUFFRAGE (Thursday, July 23rd, 7:30PM), as scheduled, but entirely online.

trueSUFFRAGE celebrates the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution — which states that the “right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex” — by being entirely dedicated to stories of female empowerment. Be prepared to be moved and inspired!

As with our last show, trueFAKES, which you can still watch at https://youtu.be/NOMi1cZeWL0, the show will broadcast live via Zoom (webinar format) and Facebook Live the show will be FREE.

The first 100 to register for the Zoom event will be able to take part in a poll which will affect our next season (so you definitely want to be in the Zoom audience, if you can!)
The show will be view-able after the fact, as well. In fact, because you are on our mailing list or are a current ticket-holder for trueSUFFRAGE, you are the first to be able to register for the Zoom event!

Register now by visiting: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_D-aWRKy_RzqkvKRQwRiNCw

Those of you who have already purchased tickets to trueSUFFRAGE (including subscription holders) will have the option to get a refund. We did not offer ticket-holders from our last show the option to donate the cost of their ticket to True Theatre, but some of you generously did that, anyway, so we have pre-arranged to make that possible this time, as well. NOTE: if you do nothing by close-of-business on Thursday, July 16 (one week before the show), a refund of your ticket(s) will be submitted. To expedite your refund or to donate the cost of your tickets, please contact the Memorial Hall box office during their normal business hours (Tuesday through Friday, 1-6pm at 513.977.8838).

Another alternative, if you are interested in donating your ticket-cost back to True Theatre, email dave@truetheatre.org and say so. We’ll coordinate the rest with the box office.

And for those of you who won, earned, or were otherwise gifted a ticket to trueSUFFRAGE, know that we will honor those tickets at a future show and will touch base with you about using those tickets as we near Season 11.

And what about Season 11?
As is our custom, we hope to announce details about our next season at our last show of this season, so there’s another reason to join us as we live-stream trueSUFFRAGE on July 23rd!

Stay true!

Thank you for your continued support of Community-building through the sharing of true, personal stories and True Theatre.

Even over the Internet, we believe that live-streaming of stories can break down walls and build bridges between people and that is why we cannot wait to bring you trueSUFFRAGE on July 23rd!

Stay healthy, stay connected, and stay true.

The Board of True Theatre
