Ohio Performer Candice Handy in International Live Shakespeare

TSMGO_As You Like ItHandy joins The Show Must Go Online’s production of AS YOU LIKE IT

Candice Handy, a Cincinnati-based actor will be playing Oliver in AS YOU LIKE IT with The Show Must Go Online at 2pm this Wednesday. Candice Handy will be joining an international cast on Rob Myles’ Youtube channel here: https://youtu.be/OvDqG4sncrM.

Candice is a professional actor and teaching artist, originally from Birmingham, AL, currently based in Cincinnati, OH. She is a resident ensemble member of the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company.

The Show Must Go Online, created by actor-writer-director Rob Myles and producing partner Sarah Peachey, brings together a global cast to perform Shakespeare’s plays live and online every week in the order they were believed to have been written, for free. The first show went live on 19th March, and was the first online Shakespeare performance produced in response to COVID-19.

Casting, led by Sydney Aldridge, aims for 50/50 male/female, and actively seeks to maximize inclusion for underrepresented groups in theatre. Anyone, whether an experienced professional, amateur or recent grad, can apply from anywhere in the world, with actors coming from 6 of the 7 continents.

Each show is cast, produced and rehearsed in under a week. Since launching, over 350 actors and creatives have volunteered their time to bring 26 shows to life. All shows are performed on Zoom and streamed live to audiences around the world on YouTube, who participate in a live chat throughout the show, playing games, exchanging insights and reactions, and engaging in a wonderful shared experience. Many audience members say they’ve found a new community with The Show Must Go Online during quarantine. Since starting, The Show Must Go Online has had over 160,000 views from 60 countries around the world.

The show has driven the innovation of Zoom-theatre, and creative solutions to staging problems have been a highlight of the shows for audiences. Props, action, costume and set-pieces are created using found items, ingenuity, and inventiveness. The quality and ingenuity of The Show Must Go Online has been recognized with two OnComm Awards.

The Show Must Go Online will complete the entire cannon by November 18, with all performances staying online for free as a stunning collection of Shakespeare’s plays for the 21st century available for all to enjoy, forever.

AS YOU LIKE IT promises to continue The Show Must Go Online’s innovation and creativity in the exciting new field of live-streamed theatre.

September Performance Cancelled at Oxford Area Community Theatre

OXACT_logoThe OxACT board continues to monitor the news regarding the COVID19 pandemic. It was our hope to present a full season but, unfortunately, that cannot happen.

We have decided to cancel the October show and are exploring “virtual alternatives” as we monitor the progress of the virus and the advice of state and health officials.

In September, we will provide further information about a possible virtual event, and will also provide an update about decisions regarding productions in February and April.

Keep checking our website or Facebook page for further updates.

Season Update from Sunset Players and The Arts Center at Dunham

SSP_logoOpening of Sunset Players and the Arts Center at Dunham FREE Family Fun Series 2020/21 seasons are on hold and events will be resumed when safely possible.

The well-being of our patrons, performers and volunteers continues to be our utmost priority. Our Board continues to monitor the local COVID-19 situation as well as the federal, state and local mandates regarding indoor theatrical performances. Due to the uncertainty on when indoor theatre will be able to resume, we find it necessary to announce a delay in opening our 2020/21 season until early 2021.

Additional Information:

We were unable to complete the final weekend of the run of our award winning musical PUMP BOYS AND DINETTES in March and cancelled our spring production of LAUGHTER ON THE 23RD FLOOR, the final show of our 40th anniversary season.

Those who purchased tickets for PUMP BOYS AND DINETTES as well as Season Pass holders who were unable to attend a performance of it and/or the cancelled spring production should have been contacted directly regarding refunds, exchanges and other options. If we somehow overlooked contacting you, please call Deb Case, our Season Ticket Chair, at (513) 418-1644 ASAP.

It was our plan to roll over the final production of last season to open the next one, which no longer appears possible. We will not be selling season passes for 2020/21 until it can be determined when and what will be possible.

We thank you for your patience as we continue to navigate these murky waters. We will continue to assess all options and inform you of any additional changes as they occur.  Look to your email and our social media channels for future updates, and most importantly, continue to take all available precautions to stay as safe as possible during this challenging time.

2020-2021 Season Update from Troy Civic Theatre

TROY_logoImportant Season Update:

The TCT board of directors met this weekend. After contacting Governor DeWine’s office, the Ohio Dept of Health, and the Miami County Dept of Health, we have NOT been given the authorization to continue with our current plans.

After much deliberation, the board has decided to postpone THE HALLELUJAH GIRLS until (tentatively) January 2021. If allowed to reopen at that time, we will continue with FARCE OF HABIT in March 2021, and will present DADDY’S DYIN’, WHO’S GOT THE WILL in May 2021.

The anticipated productions of THE TIN WOMAN and BONNIE AND CLYDE will be planned for the 2021-22 season.

Thank you for your continued support and patience during these trying times. Our ticketing, program, and patron committees will be in touch with how you can continue to support us.

Stay safe. We look forward to entertaining you in the near future!
