TWO TRAINS RUNNING
Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park
March 2-30
Marx Theatre [Eden Park]

Directed by Timothy Douglas

Cast: Frank Britton as Hambone, Doug Brown as West, Chiké Johnson as Sterling, Jefferson A. Russell as Wolf, Malkia Stampley as Risa, Raymond Anthony Thomas as Memphis & Michael Anthony Williams as Holloway

In August Wilson’s masterpiece, history unfolds around everyday lives against the backdrop of the civil rights movement. Long-time regulars gather at the local diner in Pittsburgh’s Hill District to gossip, flirt and play the numbers. Now the owner must decide whether to let the city take over his building or sell it to a shrewd, local businessman. Part of Wilson’s trailblazing American Century Cycle, Two Trains Running paints a compassionate and unforgettable portrait of ordinary people in the midst of transformation. ADVISORY: August Wilson’s Two Trains Running is suitable for adults and teenage audiences. Wilson weaves a dramatic portrait of characters who discuss racial matters, engage in a few illegal activities and use adult language (including the n-word) to describe their life experiences.

Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati

Nora famously slammed the door on her marriage, leaving her family behind in Ibsen’s 1879 revolutionary classic, but what happened to the iconic heroine next? This audacious sequel imagines her 15 years later as a changed woman. Universally acclaimed on Broadway, this smart, sophisticated comedy crackles with razor-sharp humor that speaks directly to today’s audiences, giving new voice to its predecessor’s themes of marriage, fidelity, and personal independence. This production contains mature language and content and may not be suitable for all audiences.

Directed by Patrick Allyn Hayes

Cast: Kathy Campbell as Anna, Mark Sharp as Seth, Kerry Simpson as Abby & Isaac Hollister as Abe/Lover

Anna is in the hospital having the latest of her frequent deathbed scenes, and this one looks like it may be the real deal. She makes a shocking confession to her grown children about an affair from her past that just might have resonance beyond the family. But how much of what she says is true? While her children try to separate fact from fiction, Anna fights for a legacy she can be proud of. With razor-sharp wit and extraordinary insight, OUR MOTHER’S BRIEF AFFAIR considers the sweeping, surprising impact of indiscretions both large and small.
