SCT_The Cemetery ClubTHE CEMETERY CLUB
Springboro Community Theatre
Sept. 15-24
[Springboro]

Directed by Don Campbell

Cast: Jill Doster Evans as Ida, Kathy Campbell as Lucille, Donna Cason as Doris, Jim Spencer as Sam & Nancy Albert as Mildred

Three Jewish widows meet once a month for tea before going to visit their husbands’ graves. Ida is sweet-tempered and ready to begin a new life; Lucille is a feisty embodiment of the girl who just wants to have fun; and Doris is priggish and judgmental, particularly when Sam the butcher enters the scene. He meets the widows while visiting his wife’s grave. Doris and Lucille squash the budding romance between Sam and Ida. They are guilt-stricken when this nearly breaks Ida’s heart.

WINNIE-THE-POOH Runs Sept. 16-17

PP_Winnie-the-PoohWINNIE-THE-POOH
Preble Players
Sept. 16-17
Garber Nature Center [Lewisburg, Oh.]

Preble Players welcomes you to this family comedy based on the book by A.A. Milne and adapted by Kristin Sergel. Winnie-the-Pooh is Christopher Robin’s little “bear of very little brain” who would like to drift peacefully through life, playing with Piglet, humming little tunes, and “eating a little something.” When Kanga arrives with her child, Roo, the residents of the 100-Acre woods become quite concerned because she brings something deeply concerning with her. Bring your lawn chair. There will be awnings set up for you to sit under.

THE PRODUCERS Runs Sept. 15-16

TLD_The ProducersTHE PRODUCERS
TheatreLab Dayton
Sept. 15-16
Victoria Theatre [Dayton]

The plot is simple: a down-on-his-luck Broadway producer and his mild-mannered accountant come up with a scheme to produce the most notorious flop in history, thereby bilking their backers (all “little old ladies”) out of millions of dollars. Only one thing goes awry: the show is a smash hit! The antics of Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom as they maneuver their way fecklessly through finding a show (the gloriously offensive “Springtime for Hitler”), hiring a director, raising the money and finally going to prison for their misdeeds is a lesson in broad comic construction. At the core of the insanely funny adventure is a poignant emotional journey of two very different men who become friends. Ages 13 and up.

Eventually, of course, the monster escapes and hilarity continuously abounds. This electrifying musical adaptation of Mel Brooks’ monstrously funny film will leave you in stitches!

WHAT THE CONSTITUTION MEANS TO ME Runs Sept. 9-Oct. 1

ETC_What the Constitution Means to MeWHAT THE CONSTITUTION MEANS TO ME
Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati
Sept. 9-Oct. 1
[Over-the-Rhine]

Directed by Brian Robertson

Cast: Phil Fiorini as Legionnaire/Mike, Connan Morrissey as Heidi & Sydni Charity Solomon as Debater

Fifteen-year-old Heidi earned her college tuition by winning constitutional debate competitions across the United States. In this hilarious, hopeful, and achingly human new play, she embodies her teenage self in order to trace the founding document’s profound impact on not just her own life, but the past four generations of women in her family, starting with the first to set foot in America: a mail-order bride. A Pulitzer Prize finalist and Tony Award nominee, this boundary-breaking play breathes new life into our Constitution and imagines how it will shape the next generation of Americans. While Heidi and her companions debate, they tackle tough subjects and use adult language. Expect thoughtful discussion on sexual and physical violence; murder; slavery; mental health and suicide; homophobia; and sex, sexuality, and abortion. Bring an open mind, be ready to participate, and get excited for an entertaining refresher on the Constitution!
