Play Submissions Open for 2025 NEW WORKS FESTIVAL at Cincinnati Lab Theatre

Cincinnati LAB Theatre is now planning its twelfth producing season and accepting submissions to fill productions for its 2025 New Works Festival. Cincinnati LAB Theatre will be producing these scripts over two weekends in a rotating festival format summer of 2025.

To be considered for a play reading a playwright must submit an original, unpublished, fully realized script of at least 30 minutes in length. To be considered for a fully staged workshop production a playwright must submit an original, unpublished, fully realized script of at least 45min in length to no longer that 90 minutes in length that has previously had at least one verifiable staged reading. Only plays allowing for 6 actors or less will be accepted. Erotica and pornography will not be considered. Playwrights must be available in person and/or by video conference for the entirety of the rehearsal/workshop process. Only those playwrights willing to engage in a workshop process should submit. All playwrights must be present for at least one performance. Plays previously produced as play readings by Cincinnati LAB Theatre will be given special consideration for fully staged workshop productions. Once scripts are chosen playwrights will be paired with a director and cast to fulfill the rehearsal/workshop process. Directors and cast will be chosen by Cincinnati LAB Theatre.

Submissions for the summer festival productions will be accepted between August 28, 2024 and December 31, 2024. Submissions will be accepted by Jotform here: https://form.jotform.com/223286773604057

There is a $5 submission fee. This fee covers the cost to pay readers.

Call for Directors for 2025 Summer Musical at Bart’s Bards

Bart’s Bards—a theatrical ministry of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church—is holding an open Call for Directors for our Summer 2025 musical. Interested persons should contact Danielle Meineke (BartsBards@gmail.com) to schedule a 45-minute evening appointment time on Sunday, September 29, Monday, September 30, or Wednesday, October 2 at St. Bartholomew Church (9375 Winton Rd).

Performance Dates are as follows:

  • Thursday, June 5—Evening
  • Friday, June 6—Evening
  • Saturday, June 7—Matinee & Evening
  • Sunday, June 8—Matinee

The show will be performed on the Ray Sowell Commemorative Stage in the Fr. William F. Krumpe Activity Center in Springfield Township, OH (9375 Winton Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45231).

Potential directors may pitch up to two shows. We will hear your pitch(es), talk about our theater community, and hear from you about your practices and expectations as a director. Please also bring your theatrical resumé and contact information.

The show selected will: 1) be a large-cast musical production for members of all ages, including the potential for a large number of children; 2) have several lead-role opportunities for actors of all ages; and 3) be a family-friendly production that presents a message consistent with the values of the Catholic Church. To aid potential directors with show selection, below are some of our recent productions. We are open to hearing pitches of repeat shows or shows new to our theater.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

SEE ME. HEAR ME.: Cyber Bullying is an original one-act play focused around family miscommunication, youth trauma stemming from isolation and mixed media bullying, and career pathways in behavioral health all to reduce stigma around youth mental health services. Developed with ALT, in consultation with Ohio’s Dept of Mental Health and Addiction Services, this piece was written by Executive Artistic Director & CEO, Matthew David Gellin.

SEE ME. HEAR ME.: Cyber Bullying is to be performed in a state-wide non-union tour to Ohio high schools. This will be a 6-person company – 4 actors, 1 stage manager, 1 company manager, 2 vans.

** Rehearsals and performances will be predominantly during the day time Monday through Friday. Weekends and evenings may be used for alternative performance times. Performances will be up to 5 days a week.**

TIMELINE:

SUBMISSIONS: NOW. Submit by August 21, 2024 for first consideration.

Applications/auditions are still accepted afterwards if not filled.
Rehearsals begin: September 9, 2024; 9:00am
First Bookable Performance Date: September 23, 2024
Current Ending Contract Date: October 20, 2024

Up to 10 performances a week of this 45-minute piece.

Actor & Designer Deadline Extended for One Act Double Feature at Ghostlight Stage Company

Paid positions are still available for actors, costume designers, set designers and stage managers to be involved with The Ghostlight Stage Company’s annual One Act Double Feature, new play festival. This short unique workshop process brings the audience in for a look “behind the curtain.”

This year’s workshopped pieces are Esther Made Me Do It by Nell Adkins and Elizabeth Sacktor and Artists & Vandals by Erin K. Considine. Esther Made Me Do It will be directed by Beasley and Artists & Vandals will be directed by Tamara Winters.

Actors will not be required to be off book and designers will only be required to do costume sketches / set models to show ideation (no construction required). All work is paid.

Submission times have now been extended and actors can submit a self tape of a monologue of their choice for consideration until 11:59pm EST on Wednesday August 21. Designers can submit on a rolling basis until one has been selected and stage managers can submit any time until Sunday August 25 at 11:59pm EST.

Position Overview
The Tech Director is responsible for all things tech related including, but not limited to, lights, sound, and video. Set maintenance responsibilities are shared with Operations. The base schedule for this position shall be 7:00 – 11:00 pm Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  It’s expected that the TD will have flexibility for a few hours on weekdays for scheduling, tech troubleshooting, theater improvements, and a weekly staff meeting.

The Tech Director is responsible for curating the vibe at shows. Improv Cincinnati’s improvised shows require lights and sound to be modified and adapted for the scenes in real time. In addition to unscripted shows, the TD will be asked to program lights and sound for sketch comedy shows and scripted parodies.

The Tech Director will be responsible for upgrading and maintaining equipment. The TD should have the skills and knowledge to troubleshoot technical issues that occur. 

Qualifications
Required Skills Include

  • Organized and tech savvy and/or willingness to learn software and system.
  • Comfort with making decisions and solving problems with limited supervision.
  • Good communicator.
  • Comfort with a microphone.

Preferred Skills Include

  • Degree or experience in Theatre Design and Technology
  • Previous experience in house management or stage management.
  • Familiarity with Improv Cincinnati as a student, performer, or audience member.

Responsibilities

  • Operate sound, lights and video for Clifton Comedy Theatre’s shows.
  • Troubleshoot equipment as needed.
  • Give advice on upgrades or solutions to tech issues.
  • Install new equipment, organize the tech booth, and change flats when necessary.
  • Curate pre-show slides, music playlists, and audio samples
  • Work in concert with the show host and house manager to ensure the show goes smoothly.

Compensation & Benefits

This is a part time, hourly position paying $20 per hour.
