Young Male Needed for THE NIGHTS BEFORE CHRISTMAS at Covedale Center

CCPAWe’ve one role to fill in our holiday production of THE NIGHTS BEFORE CHRISTMAS.

A glorious new musical for Christmastime! Filled with romance, heartbreak and mystery, The Nights Before Christmas reveals the dramatic life of Clement C. Moore and the writing of the poem that defined the joy of Christmas for the world, “A Visit from St. Nicholas”. Is it possible that such a serious, sour-faced, religious scholar could write a trifle about a jolly elf in a red suit? Did Moore really pen the whole poem on a sleigh ride on Christmas Eve?? Could the rumors that he is not the author be true? And if he is the author, what is the secret that prevents him from claiming it for his own?

The Role: Young Clement Moore’s son is sometimes sneaky, but never malicious. A good boy who idolizes his father and is willing to show affection for his family, even in front of others, he will be lost to disease before he is of age as well.

REQUIREMENTS: Male, 10 to 14 years of age.
Must be an excellent reader and be comfortable with singing AND MUST BE AVAILABLE – really. This is a paid role.

Performers Needed for Project at Heritage Village Museum

misc_heritage-village-museum-logoHeritage Village Museum has a “walking theater” type of project coming up in partnership with the GreatParks. When folks buy a theater ticket, instead of sitting in one room to watch a show, they walk (in groups) through the village (in the dark) and meet up with various (and possibly shady) characters from history.

We’ve lost a couple of folks, and are trying to fill a couple of roles at the last minute. They involve more improvisation than memorization–with a base of historic facts. Each actor will perform his or her interactive monologue/improv for about 15 minutes about six times each evening on November 4 & 5.

The actors would have to be volunteers; the event is a fundraiser for GreatParks and Heritage Village.

Performance Dates: Friday, November 4 and Saturday, November 5, 2016
Performance Times: first performance each evening at 7 p.m.; several groups
each night (arrive at 6 p.m.)

Rehearsals: . Private character rehearsals-as needed, to fit your schedule .
Thursday, October 20 (4 p.m.): Character-only full run-through (no guides) .
Tuesday, November 1 (4 p.m.): Dress Rehearsal (Guides included)

These are the roles we need:

  • Night Soil Man: (male, age 18 & up) The collection of “night soil” from the privies of the homes of Cincinnati was only allowed at night. The human waste was often covered in dirt thereby giving its name. It’s not a glamorous job, but a necessary one. The “night soil” man would wander the streets after dark, making his rounds. This character will not have a designated stop for the visitors, but will wander the village and interact with groups.
  • Phrenologist: (male, age 18 & up) Phrenology, the pseudo-science of reading of the  bumps and measurements of the head, came into vogue around 1810 and peaked and was rejected by 1843. What does your head say about you? Phrenologists sometimes traveled from town to town to bring their “expertise” to different locations. Props can include a skull an assistant brings you to test your skills on-which you accurately determine the be a low sort of violent and disloyal fellow. (“Amazing-that’s the skull of a man who was hung for murdering his employer!”) Come ready to sound like an expert and read the character of your audience.
  • Red Haired Nance: (Female, age 18 & up. Historically described as “tall and statuesque”) The disastrous defeat of St. Clair and his army in present day Fort Recovery remains the single worst defeat of the American Army by Indians. Many “camp followers” were among the victims of this battle that had over an 88% casualty rate among soldiers. Legend has it one of the “camp followers” to escape the general carnage was a red-head known as “Nance.” She supposedly grew weary of carry her infant child on the terrifying retreat from the site of battle and left her child in a snow bank. Indians found the child and allegedly adopted it into their tribe. Nance made it to Fort Jefferson and then back to Fort Washington and Cincinnati. She lived a long life and would tell anyone who would listen of her tale of survival. Spin a harrowing tale of Indians, battles and survival for your audience-and vehemently defend your decision to leave your baby behind; can you get your audience to forgive you?

Job Title: Capital Campaign Director

Position Overview
The Capital Campaign Director will lead the successful promotion, management and day-to-day operations of the Playhouse’s upcoming Capital Campaign. The Campaign Director works collaboratively with the Development Director, the Campaign Chair(s), and the President of the Playhouse’s Board of Trustees. The Campaign Director is a full-time exempt position with benefits. Evening and weekend hours are sometimes required.

Reports to: Managing Director and Artistic Director

Position Responsibilities

  • Direct the implementation of all aspects of the Capital Campaign, including the execution of the fundraising operating plan, timeline, and achievement of clearly defined benchmarks and goals.
  • Serve as the primary contact for Campaign Counsel in the day-to-day management of the campaign.
  • Establish solicitation priorities, manage prospect lists and research, develop and execute targeted cultivation plans and solicitation strategies for a select group of high-potential prospects.
  • Work closely with the Campaign Cabinet Chair(s) regarding the strategy and cultivation of the highest net-worth donor prospects.
  • Manage the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of a personal portfolio of Campaign prospects.
  • Work with Individual Giving/Stewardship Manager to capture patron information and movement in Tessitura, the Playhouse’s database.
  • Implement a communications plan to enhance the visibility and appreciation of the Playhouse in the context of the quiet phase of the Campaign.
  • Create and manage cultivation events and other engagement opportunities to build and enhance relationships with prospective major donors.
  • Maintain an active Campaign calendar (for solicitations, cultivation events, follow-up actions, etc.) and manage the tracking system for a moves management pipeline.
  • Create and write Campaign print and electronic collateral materials including the case statement and pledge cards, working with the Playhouse marketing team to ensure all materials fit within the new organizational branding. Coordinate the design and production of all Campaign materials.
  • Create and write other Campaign documents, including Campaign Cabinet and Board presentations, solicitation materials, acknowledgements and gift agreement letters.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with the Campaign Cabinet including coordination of regular meetings and management of Cabinet members’ cultivation and solicitation activities.
  • Provide weekly/monthly analysis and progress reports to Campaign Cabinet, Board, Development Director and Playhouse Leadership.
  • Serve as a member of the Playhouse’s senior management team, working cohesively with staff in all departments within the Playhouse.

Competencies

  • Minimum five years of progressive experience in fundraising, with a track record of success in meeting fundraising goals.
  • A detailed knowledge of major gifts fundraising, as well as capital campaign strategy and implementation.
  • Superb interpersonal skills that empower the candidate to be as comfortable in a private conversation as she/he is networking at a cocktail party.
  • Superb verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to develop written reports and deliver presentations communicating Campaign progress to multiple constituents.
  • Ability to successfully manage and build relationships with individuals, corporate donors, foundation representatives, government officials, Board leadership, and Playhouse staff.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative to meet goals in a time sensitive environment with impeccable attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Energetic, flexible and adaptable, and able to multi-task and work independently in an environment with competing deadlines.
  • Ability to work as an effective team member in a fast-paced environment.
  • A strong ethical character and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately and with discretion.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, and donor software -Tessitura preferred.
  • Appreciation for the performing arts and theater in particular.
  • Familiarity with major arts and culture funders in the Greater Cincinnati area is preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • The employee is frequently required to stand and walk, and occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • This position is partially sedentary, and the employee is required to regularly talk and hear.

Directors Sought for 2017-2018 Season at Loveland Stage Company

Artists Wanted for QUEERBARET at Queen City Queen Theatre Collective

QCQTC_logoCALLING ALL ARTISTS!

We are so excited to announce that November will bring our second annual QUEERBARET!

We want YOU to come join us as a performer for this magical night of queer theatrical bliss. Here are the guidelines for your material:

  • Material should be something about which you are passionate, and would otherwise not have the opportunity to perform. This is your chance to take a swing at that song/scene/monologue that falls outside of your age, gender, sexuality, race, type etc.
  • Ideally, material should not exceed 5 minutes in length. (Exceptions could be made based on number of submissions.)
  • You may submit as groups, or if you do not have a scene partner in mind, submit the material anyway. Maybe someone else’s submissions will line up and I can pair you.
  • If you would like to do a musical selection, a piano accompanist will be provided, but additional instrumentation would be up to you to organize.
  • Each number will be the responsibility of the performer(s) to rehearse- though we will have 1-2 joint rehearsals for brief coaching/tweaking and to rehearse flow of the evening.

Please submit your idea, any technical requirements, and (ideally) a copy of the material to lindseyamercer@gmail.com no later than TUESDAY NOVEMBER 1.
