EdTA Seeks Project Support Specialist I

EdTA also produces the International Thespian Festival and publishes Dramatics magazine for high school theatre students, and Teaching Theatre, a journal for theatre education professionals.

JOB TITLE:  Project Support Specialist I

POSITION:  EdTA seeks an Project Support Specialist I to support the many project, programmatic, administrative, event planning, and reporting needs of the association.

SKILLS DESIRED:  Must be able to team with others as well as work independently, with minimal supervision, and be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.  The ideal candidate is detail oriented, a clear communicator, forward thinking, creative, and imaginative.  The ideal candidate has a customer first orientation. The ideal candidate should be execution-focused, able to roll up your sleeves and focus on the task at hand.  The ideal candidate has experience with database management and the ability to be flexible in working with different technologies.  Experience in the non-profit sector, theatre and/or education preferred.

POSITION REPORTS TO:  Support Services Manager

EDUCATION REQUIRED:  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred

STATUS: Full time, non-exempt

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Project Support Specialist supports the Support Services Manager in meeting the various needs of several departments across the organization.  Success in the role requires aptitude as a project manager, the ability to build relationships with staff, members, and volunteers, an affinity toward data management, research, and some amount of event planning and support.  The Project Support Specialist will be the lead on several projects that require great attention to detail.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assists in the production of reports to support organizational decision making.
  2. Creates tools to increase the efficiency of staff and supports the ability to be more productive for our membership.
  3. Participates in the execution of several key processes, such as event registration, scholarship application processing, and new business development.
  4. Assists in the support of the association’s volunteer leaders, as needed.
  5. Fulfills volunteer leader materials and information requests.
  6. Other tasks as assigned.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to apply basic project management principles.
  • Strong organization, multi-tasking, and time management skills.
  • Positive, team-oriented attitude.
  • Familiarity with event planning.
  • High school level math skills.
  • Knowledge of and experience in theatre is a plus.
  • Ability to travel on a limited basis.

BLUES IN THE NIGHT
Conceived and Originally Directed by SHELDON EPPS- Original Vocal Arrangements and Musical Direction by CHAPMAN ROBERTS- Orchestrations and Additional Vocal Arrangements by SY JOHNSON

This Tony-nominated musical delivers 26 hot and torchy numbers. With little spoken text, the interweaving stories are defined through glorious songs that cover the range of this indigenous American art form, from Bessie Smith to Duke Ellington, Johnny Mercer, Harold Arlen, Alberta Hunter, Jimmy Cox, Ida Cox and more, telling of the pain and misery of life and love… and also of the dogged determination to get through it all… that is the essence of the blues

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:
Prepare two numbers. One upbeat, one ballad. The genre of music should be Jazz, Blues, and Gospel. You could certainly choose from any of the composer/lyricists listed in the synopsis or related to that style of songwriting. Accompanist will be provided. No Acapella singing or singing from a CD. MUST provide sheet music.

A youthful, energetic, enthusiastic girl. Bright and clever, but innocent and prone to vulnerability. Her drinking reveals a range of emotions and surprisingly uncharacteristic bitterness.

 The Lady from the Road
A warm and beautiful African-American woman. Humorous and full of gossip, she possesses a wealth of experience in her long life. Has fallen from grace andshe knows it,  but hopeful she will rise again.

The Man In The Saloon
A simultaneously very charming and slightly dangerous guy. Exudes confidence and control in his sly remarks to the women, but is secretly frustrated and lonely.

Several Support Positions Available for POLKADOTS at The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati

  1. POLKADOTS THE COOL KIDS MUSICAL:  Assistant Stage Manager
    CONTRACT TIMETABLE:  JANUARY 29TH – MARCH 26TH, 2018.
    COMMITMENT: WEEKDAYS AND SOME WEEKENDS.
    PAY: $3,500

    • Work closely with the Stage Manager, including one week of prep prior to the start of staging rehearsals
    • Track rehearsal needs as assigned by the Stage Manager. Examples include, but are not limited to:
      1. Creating and maintaining running paperwork for various departments
      2. Coordinate fittings with wardrobe / wig / make-up for the cast
      3. Communicate between all departments
      4. Other duties as assigned
    • Work with the Stage Manager and Technical Director to ensure production values while in performances
    • Work closely with the Stage Manager and oversee all Running Crews during Technical Rehearsals and Performances
    • Attend and participate in production meetings, load in/out, tech and dress rehearsals, and all performances at the Showtime Stage at Red Bank
    • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
    • Must have excellent interpersonal and communicative skills
    • 2 years of technical theatre/ Stage Management experience, or equivalent, preferred

  2. POLKADOTS THE COOL KIDS MUSICAL:  Backstage Crew/ Microphone Technician
    CONTRACT TIMETABLE:  FEB 16TH – MARCH 26TH, 2018.
    COMMITMENT: WEEKDAYS AND SOME WEEKENDS.
    PAY: $3,000

    • Work under the direction of the Technical Director, the Sound Designer, and Stage Manager
    • Maintain an organized and backstage environment
    • Pre-show duties as assigned
    • Prep, maintain and troubleshoot all microphones used in the production (wireless or wired, body-worn, etc.)
    • Work with the sound designer/ sound board operator to ensure production quality during performance
    • Act as a backstage deck crew member changing sets and other duties as assigned
    • Work closely with the Stage Manager and other deck crew during technical rehearsals and performances
    • Attend at least 2 (two) run rehearsals prior to load in
    • Attendance and participation in load in/out, tech and dress rehearsals at the Showtime Stage at Red Bank
    • Attendance and participation in all performances
    • Must have working knowledge of wireless microphone systems
    • 2 years of technical theatre experience, or equivalent, preferred
    • Assist in restoring the Showtime Stage to “house rep” during strike

  3. POLKADOTS THE COOL KIDS MUSICAL:  Master Electrician / Light Board Operator
    CONTRACT TIMETABLE:  FEB 16TH – MARCH 26TH, 2018.
    COMMITMENT: WEEKDAYS AND SOME WEEKENDS.
    PAY: $3,000

    • Work at Red Bank Road building, under the direction of the Technical Director, the Lighting Designer, and Stage Manager
      Maintain an organized and clean backstage environment
    • Pre-show duties as assigned
    • Prep, maintain and troubleshoot all lighting instruments, atmospheric and scenic lighting effects, and materials used in the production (lamps, cables, patterns, gel, fog machines, set pieces with practicals, etc.)
    • Work with the Lighting Designer/ Stage Manager to ensure production quality during performances
    • Program, run, and troubleshoot an ETC ION light board with oversight by the Lighting Designer (during load in/ tech rehearsals)
    • Work closely with the TD, Stage Manager, Spot Operator, and Lighting Designer during technical rehearsals and performances
    • Attendance and participation in Load in/out, Lighting hang/focus/cueing, tech and dress rehearsals at the Showtime Stage at Red Bank
    • Attendance and participation in all performances
    • Participate in the restore to the “House Rep lighting plot” and reset cues during load-out
    • Must have working knowledge of lighting equipment of all kinds, including specific knowledge of the programming and operation of the ETC ION board
    • 2 years of technical theatre experience, or equivalent, preferred

  4. POLKADOTS THE COOL KIDS MUSICAL:  Sound Designer / Sound Board Operator
    CONTRACT TIMETABLE:  FEB 16TH – MARCH 26TH, 2018.
    COMMITMENT: WEEKDAYS AND SOME WEEKENDS.
    PAY: $3,300

    • Work closely with the Staging Director and Stage Manager to create a design complementary to the production, incorporating materials provided by the show publisher when necessary
    • Creating, acquiring, altering and otherwise providing sound cues necessary to the production to enhance the script or director’s vision
    • rack materials, time, and budget as assigned by the Technical Director
    • Prep, maintain and troubleshoot all sound equipment used in the production (wireless or wired microphones, speakers, mixing board, etc.) along with the Microphone Technician
    • Work with the Microphone Technician and Stage Manager to ensure production quality during performances
    • Attend Production Meetings as assigned
    • Attend at least 2 (two) run rehearsals prior to load in
    • Attendance and participation in load in/out, tech and dress rehearsals at the Showtime Stage at Red Bank
    • Attendance and participation in all performances
    • Restore all system settings to “house rep” at load-our including speaker positions and board program
    • Must have working knowledge of sound editing and mixing programs
    • Must have working knowledge of digital audio mixers (Behringer X32 knowledge preferred)
    • Must have working knowledge of wireless microphone systems
      Must have at least 2 years of technical theatre- sound design/tech experience or equivalent

    • Ensure the cleanliness of the house and lobby area prior to each performance
    • Manage ushers
    • Organize volunteers
    • Coordinate patron needs with box office
    • Communicate with Stage Manager to coordinate performance start time
    • Resolve seating issues and/or any emergencies that may arise during the performance
    • 6 months of customer service experience preferred
    • CPR and First Aid training required
    • Must have cheerful and helpful attitude

Directors Sought for 2018-2019 Season at Cincinnati Music Theatre

CMTApplications for director submissions are due back to Karen Galliers (contact info below) no later than Friday, November 10th, and should include (at minimum) one or two musicals that you are interested in producing with CMT.

Applications should feature a brief synopsis of each show, cast, set, and orchestra requirements, any production crew members you may have assembled for your project(s), and finally, a short paragraph explaining why your musical selection is right for CMT to produce.

From there, the CMT Creative Committee will convene and examine all options submitted – directors chosen for interviews will be contacted no later than Friday, November 17th to set up a proper day and time to interview (expected interviews to take place 12/2 – 12/3). The unveiling of CMT’s 2018-2019 season will occur at our annual Season Announcement Gala in January 2018.
