Auditions Announced for RADIO SUSPENSE THEATRE

Due to the impending weather, the Sunday audition date has been postponed. New date TBA.

Radio Suspense Theatre: A Deadly Wager – The Parakeets Vanish is a world premiere play. It’s a comedy based in a radio station in 1943. The title “A Deadly Wager” and “The Parakeets Vanish” are titles of Radio Dramas being preformed during the “Broadcast” (The play).

Auditions will be held Sunday January 5th, at 3:00 and Tuesday January 7th at 7:00 at Hamline Chapel United Methodist Church.

The Production dates will be April 11th-13th.

There are seven male roles and six female roles for ages seventeen and up. A head shot, resume, and list of conflicts for February – April would be appreciated!

Although not a Musical, Radio Suspense Theatre calls for two female singing roles, anyone interested should prepare one song in period 1940’s music style. An accompanist will be provided.

Also there is a part for a proficient pianist, who plays theme music for the radio broadcast. This will also be an acting part.

LEND ME A TENOR

Anderson Center (7850 Five Mile Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45230)

BPI is seeking versatile, comedic actors. Plan to do cold readings from the script. For those auditioning for Tito and/or Max, prepare to do some singing exercises; actors may prepare an operatic aria to be sung a cappella at the audition, but this is not required. This is not a musical, but it does include some singing by a few of the actors.

Headshot and resume are ideal but are not required. All roles are open. Performance dates are May 9 – 17, 2014. Visit www.beechmontplayers.org for more information.

Characters:

  • Max – excitable assistant to Saunders (age 20-35)
  • Maggie — Max’s girlfriend, enamored by Tito (age 20-35)
  • Saunders — Maggie’s high-strung father, General Manager of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company (age dependent on Maggie’s)
  • Tito Merelli — a world famous Italian tenor, easily distracted by booze and women (age 35+ flexible)
  • Maria — Tito’s jealous Italian wife (age 30-40 dependent on Tito)
  • Bellhop – a curious, wannabe opera singer bellhop (flexible)
  • Diana — a very sexy soprano (does not actually sing on stage) (age 20-35)
  • Julia — Chairman of the Opera Guild; very proper and dignified (40+)

SSP Announces Auditions for THE 39 STEPS

SSP_logoSunset Players will be holding auditions for the male parts of THE 39 STEPS on December 10th and 11th at the Arts Center at Dunham (1945 Dunham Way, 45238) starting at 7PM. The female role has already been cast at a prior audition.

THE 39 STEPS re-imagines the classic 1935 Hitchcock classic spy movie as an energetic, fun farce. It is a fast-paced production of lively acting and quick character changes filled with puns, laughter, false identifies, and international organizations!

One actor will play Richard Hannay, the hero, and the other 2 men will play every other character in the show; villains, policemen, wives, husbands, inanimate objects, etc.!

CSP(OH) Announces Auditions for THE ROYAL FAMILY

CSPO_logoCenterStage Players will hold auditions for their February/March performance of THE ROYAL FAMILY at their performance venue – The North College Hill City Center (1500 W. Galbraith Road, Cincinnati, OH 45231)

Auditions will take place on Monday, December 9th and Wednesday, December 11th (7-9:30 PM).

No appointment necessary. Auditioners will be taken in the approximate order of arrival.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.

Show dates are February 28, March 1, 2, 6, 7, and 8. .

Show Details: THE ROYAL FAMILY

A comedy – a thinly-veiled portrait of the legendary Barrymores. Another renowned “Royal Family of Broadway”, the Cavendish clan comprises three generations of legendary American actors. When the Cavendish name and reputation is threatened Dowager Fanny rules with a combination of strength, wit, courage, and a sharp tongue, proving that the “show” indeed, “must (and will) go on.”

Cast of Characters 

  • Fanny Cavendish: Matriarch of the Cavendish family, mother of Julie and Tony, a talented actress who no longer performs. 60’s – 70’s.
  • Julie Cavendish: Daughter of Fanny, mother of Gwen, middle-aged, still very attractive woman and a phenomenal actress. Oversees the family’s affairs. 40’s.
  • Gwen Cavendish: Daughter of Julie, 19 years old and a talented actress. She is, however, less enthusiastic about theatre than the rest of her family. 20’s.
  • Tony Cavendish: Son of Fanny. A little younger than Julie, he has been working on a movie in Hollywood, but has returned to New York because of some trouble. High-strung and used to having his own way. 30’s – 40’s.
  • Oscar Wolfe: The Cavendish family’s manager. A figure of authority and knows what he wants. Has been working with the Cavendish’s for years, making him almost part of the family. 50’s – 60’s.
  • Perry Stewart: Gwen’s boyfriend. Attractive young man from a good family with a bright future. Would like Gwen to leave the stage so they can be together. 20’s – 30’s.
  • Gilbert Marshall: Former suitor of Julie. Rich business man, back in town after almost twenty years to see Julie again. 40’s – 50’s.
  • Herbert Dean: Fanny’s brother. Past his prime and having trouble finding acting work. 50’s – 60’s.
  • Kitty LeMoyne Dean: Herbert’s wife. Mediocre actress, sees herself younger and more talented than she actually is. 40’s – 50’s.
  • Della: the Cavendish’s housekeeper, an efficient woman, capable of keeping up with the many needs of the family. Any age.
  • Jo: the houseman, takes orders from Della and helps keep the family happy. Any age.
  • Miss Peake: Gwen’s nurse for baby Aubrey. Any age, young.

  • Prepared song from a Broadway-style musical, not from the show.
  • Accompanist provided. If using pre-recorded music, please bring your own CD player or iPod with speakers. Pre-recorded music cannot include vocals.
  • You may be asked to sing from show music.
  • Cold readings from the script.

Fantasticks Characters:

  • El Gallo, lead male baritone, age 30-50
  • Matt, lead male baritone, age 15-30
  • Luisa, lead female soprano, age 15-30
  • Bellomy, supporting male baritone, age 40-60
  • Hucklebee, supporting male baritone, age 40-60
  • Henry, supporting male spoken, age 55+

The Show:
Two fathers, who want their children to fall in love, decide to stage a mock feud. They figure that when they say no to the budding relationship, the children will fall madly in love. The fathers go even further by hiring a bandit, El Gallo, to abduct the young girl so that the boy can rescue her and be a hero. The plan works, only to go badly astray when the young couple learns they have been duped. But true love will prevail in the end. The Fantasticks is the world’s longest-running musical with a poetic book, breezy score, and evocative staging.
