Nick Cristano may be living the life of a modern young professional in New York City, but his loving grandparents never let him forget where he belongs: in New Jersey, in the bosom of his tenacious, tender-hearted, loud, loving, and well-fed Italian-American grandparents. Faithfully, Nick goes “over the river” to Grandma’s house every week for Sunday dinner. When he is offered an important promotion in Seattle, Washington, Nick threatens to break this routine by a distance of some 2,800 miles! Besides the usual tactics of emotional blackmail, in order to keep him safe at home, these wily elders cook up a matchmaking scheme, inviting lovely nurse Caitlin O’Hare over for Sunday dinner. Will the prospect of true love keep Nick from moving across the country?

Auditions Announced for OUR MOTHER’S BRIEF AFFAIR at Dayton Theatre Guild

DTGOpen audition notice for OUR MOTHER’S BRIEF AFFAIR by Richard Greenberg

Auditions will be held Mon & Tue, Jan 14 & 15, 2019, starting at 7:00 pm both nights.
Production dates: Mar 1-17, 2019

The Dayton Theatre Guild at the Caryl D. Philip TheatreScape
430 Wayne Ave, Dayton OH, 45410
937-278-5993 — www.daytontheatreguild.org

Directed by Patrick Allyn Hayes
Produced by Christina Tomazinis

Anna is in the hospital having the latest of her frequent deathbed scenes, and this one looks like it may be the real deal. She makes a shocking confession to her grown children about an affair from her past that just might have resonance beyond the family. But how much of what she says is true? While her children try to separate fact from fiction, Anna fights for a legacy she can be proud of. With razor-sharp wit and extraordinary insight, OUR MOTHER’S BRIEF AFFAIR considers the sweeping, surprising impact of indiscretions both large and small.

Casting Requirements:

• Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.
• A résumé and headshot are not required but are appreciated.
• Please provide a list of all known conflicts.

-) Anna:
A woman perpetually dying. Anna is a woman in her mid-sixties who, after years of hiding, admits to an affair she had when her two children were young. In her youth she was a beauty and even now retains some of that elegant sophistication. She knows how to pose. Anna didn’t do anything extraordinary in her life but decides to make up for it by, perhaps, re-editing the past.

-) Seth:
Anna’s son. Late thirties to mid-forties. He makes his living writing obituaries. As a boy he attended Julliard studying the viola. He has difficulties with relationships and, perhaps, some of Anna’s coldness rubbed off on him.

-) Abby:
Anna’s daughter, Seth’s Sister. She lives in California, as far away from the family one could be without leaving the country. Let that tell you something. She has a child of her own and a challenging relationship with her partner. Abby is more boisterous and animated than Seth.

-) Lover/Dad (Abe):
This actor plays both the mysteriously romantic Lover and her loveless husband in the past. The Lover is an “Urban Gentleman” and Abe has grown tired of Anna and her theatrics.

*Director’s note: Everyone is Jewish(ish)

Auditions Announced for SHERWOOD: THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD at Sunset Players

SSP_logoSunset Players will hold open auditions for the Cincinnati premiere of Ken Ludwig’s SHERWOOD: THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD on:

Wednesday & Thursday, January 9 & 10 from 7-9 pm at The Art Center at Dunham at 1945 Dunham Way, Cincinnati, OH 45238.

All the action, all the romance…all the laughs? Produced by special arrangements from Samuel French, Ken Ludwig’s Sherwood is a rip-roaring joyride featuring Robin, Friar Tuck and Little John, as well as two sword-wielding maidens, Marian and Doerwynn. Add in not one but three villains: The Sheriff of Nottingham, Prince John and Sir Guy along with some comedy and romance, and you have Ken Ludwig’s valentine to the swashbuckler story.

Sunset Players and director Dennis Murphy are looking for a large band of actors to play the merry men and maidens and a few villains for the May 2019 production. Roles are available for 12-14 men and 4-6 women with 32 characters in all. Rehearsals will begin in mid-February, and show dates are May 3, 4, 10, 11, 12, 16, 17 and 18.

Characters:

  • Robin of Locksley, noble-born bandit with a noble heart
  • Friar Tuck, the far from holy narrator of the story
  • Maid Marian, noble woman and supporter of Robin. Very handy with a bow and arrow.
  • Little John, Robin’s rather brawny right-hand man
  • Doerwynn, a rescued maiden who has a crush on Robin and becomes part of his merry band
  • Sheriff of Nottingham, the heavy-handed arm of the law
  • Sir Guy of Gisbourne, a corrupt noble in league with the Sheriff and Prince John
  • Prince John/King Richard, a dual role portraying both a good monarch and an evil one
  • And an ensemble of merry men and women to play a variety of roles.

Auditions will involve cold readings from the script. If you cannot make the audition dates and are interested in a role, contact Dennis Murphy at durfsworld@yahoo.com to schedule an alternate audition.

Sunset Players, Inc. is a community theater group located on the west side of Cincinnati. Founded in 1979, the group performs at the Arts Center at Dunham and has produced more than 120 plays. Its mission is to bring a smile, and its plays include comedies, farces, dramatic comedies and musical comedies—as long as there is some “comedy” in the performance somewhere.
